Johor, Melaka polls show Umno is okay without PAS, says Ahmad Maslan
[Image: 9_AHMAD_MASLAN_MP_PONTIAN_UMNO_FMT_16032022.jpg]

PONTIAN: Umno is confident of doing well in the next general election (GE15) without PAS by its side as shown in the Johor and Melaka state polls, its secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said.

Ahmad said the huge victories in the two states should be used as a benchmark to give Barisan Nasional (BN) the impetus to repeat the performance in GE15.

He said Umno had been preparing to face GE15 without PAS by its side since after the two state elections.

“I’m not bragging, but I don’t want the machinery to be disheartened that the Muafakat Nasional (MN) alliance with PAS is not happening in GE15.

Umno may field Isham for ‘near-impossible’ fight in PKR seat
[Image: ISHAM-JALIL-MKT-UMNO-4.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Umno is planning to nominate Supreme Council member Isham Jalil to stand in a “PKR stronghold” in Selangor, says a party insider.

The source did not name the seat but said it had been a PKR stronghold since 2008 “and is considered ‘virtually impossible’ to win”.

At the 2008 general election, PKR had won in Hulu Selangor, Selayang, Gombak, Ampang, Subang, Petaling Jaya Selatan, Kelana Jaya, Kapar, and Kuala Langat. In 2018, the party won in two other seats, Pandan, and Sungai Buloh.

TANJONG KARANG: Selangor Umno, through Barisan Nasional, is confident of winning three-cornered contests in Selangor against Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional at the coming general election.

Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Noh Omar said the party expected a tough challenge to secure victory because of the large number of voters in the state. However, he was confident that Umno could win more seats compared to the 2018 general election.

PSM and PH, an electoral pact of mutual benefit
[Image: PSM-PH-logo.jpg]

I am glad that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has agreed to have an electoral pact with a fraternal party like Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM).

Recently, I suggested that PH should form an electoral pact with Muda and PSM in strengthening the coalition’s position against Umno/BN.

I suggested that PSM, being a socialist political party, had many things in common with parties such as DAP and PKR.

In the 2008 and 2013 general elections, PSM’s chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj contested and won the Sungei Siput parliamentary constituency.

He was called a “giant killer” after defeating former MIC president, the late S Samy Vellu in the 2008 general election.

In both the elections, Jayakumar contested under the banner of PKR.

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) will be contesting in 191 parliamentary seats in the upcoming general election (GE15), says its chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He also announced that aside from Umno and the other BN component parties, candidates from parties that are recognised as Friends of BN would be given the chance to contest under the coalition’s banner for the first time.

“We have not forgotten the candidates from the Friends of BN,” he said in the Bagan Datuk Umno division annual meeting.

“This is the first time that we are giving a chance to candidates from Friends of BN (to contest under BN).”

Ismail still BN’s PM candidate, says Zahid
[Image: ismail-sabri-n-zahid-hamidi-bernama-240622.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said his vice-president, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, remains the prime ministerial candidate should Barisan Nasional win the coming general election (GE15).

Zahid said the decision to nominate Ismail as prime minister was final.

Notwithstanding, he said the power to appoint the prime minister still rested with the King under the Federal Constitution.

“So, if an opposition party says BN is naming someone other than Ismail (as the prime ministerial candidate), then that’s just their attempt at sowing disunity in Umno and BN.

GEORGE TOWN: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today denied allegations that the party was having secret talks with Umno regarding cooperation in the 15th general election (GE15).

“The answer is obvious. We as MPs did not want Parliament to be dissolved as it would force Malaysians to face potentially dangerous natural disasters and the monsoon season.
