For Batu voters, Praba’s the one – only because of PKR
[Image: P-Prabakaran-Batu.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR: P Prabakaran appears to be the top choice of voters in Batu where he is seeking a second term as the constituency’s MP in the 15th general election.

However it is because they want Pakatan Harapan to retain the parliamentary seat, which is the scene of a 10-cornered battle on Nov 19.

Although many approached by FMT acknowledged that Prabakaran was hardworking and approachable, the voters pointed out that he has the edge over the rest as he was with PKR.

Homemaker Ramani Ramasamy, a Sentul resident of 17 years, said Prabakaran was a good MP who was on the ground everywhere in Batu but one have to look at the bigger picture, which was to make PH the new government.

DAP man out to prove that Kedah Malays can accept the party
[Image: Zulhazmi-Shariff-1.jpg]

KUALA MUDA: Zulhazmi Shariff of DAP is on a mission to prove a former ally is wrong to claim that Kedah Malays will never accept the party.

Zulhazmi, who is DAP’s sole Malay candidate in Kedah, said he wants to prove that the people of Jerai are open-minded and appreciate a party’s values and not just its logos.

“It is our responsibility to prove that Phahrolrazi Zawawi is wrong to say DAP is unacceptable to the Malays,” he told FMT in an interview.

Phahrolrazi’, the former Kedah Amanah chief, made his comment following Pakatan Harapan’s decision to field a DAP candidate to contest the Jerai seat.

“Make your vote count to prevent incompetent people from running Malaysia”

ALL eligible Malaysian citizens must come out ‘in droves’ to vote on Nov 19 lest the 15th General Election (GE15) will be an avenue for unqualified and incompetent leaders to administer the country.

In a joint declaration, the KL & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia and the LLG Cultural Development Centre also reminded voters should scrutinise the qualifications and capability of the candidates based on their backgrounds and track records.

“GE15 is a platform for the rakyat to choose leaders who are competent, honest and trustworthy. It is also a place where we remove candidates who are selfish, abuse power and are corrupt,” the joint declaration pointed out.

Zuraida tarnished her ‘brand’ by betraying PH, says PKR’s Rodziah
[Image: Rodziah-binti-ismail-FMT.jpg]

AMPANG: Pakatan Harapan’s Ampang candidate Rodziah Ismail has dismissed Zuraida Kamaruddin’s claim that she essentially had her own “brand” in the constituency, having served as its MP for the past 14 years.

Instead, Rodziah said, Zuraida had tarnished her brand by betraying PH through the Sheraton Move in February 2020, which eventually led to the former PKR vice-president’s sacking.

“Was that ‘brand’ (she claims to have) hers or was she riding on PKR,” questioned Rodziah.

While she did not deny Zuraida’s contributions to the constituency in her three terms as Ampang MP, she believed that voters would be giving her rival the boot in the general election because of her treachery.

GE15: Malay support remains, Chinese voters coming back to BN: Liow
[Image: 08112022_-_Kempen_Liow_Tiong_Lai_-_SYEDAIMRAN6.jpg]

BENTONG – Loyalty from the Malay community for Barisan Nasional (BN) will ensure success for the coalition in the 15th general election (GE15), said its Bentong candidate Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai.

He added that the community has always sided with BN and is unlikely to turn its back on the coalition any time soon.

“(Votes from the Malay community) have always been with us (BN) and will continue to be with us,” he told The Vibes on the sidelines of his campaign here today.

He added that BN and component party MCA are “getting better” at attracting the Chinese community to support the coalition again.

Liow, who is a former MCA president, said, “The Chinese (voters) are coming back to us (MCA).”

“BN has been seen to be a very progressive, inclusive and moderate (coalition). Our policies over the past 60 or so years are a proven formula for success.”

Liow is attempting to regain the Bentong parliamentary seat after being bested in the 2018 general election by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Wong Tack, who secured his win with a majority of just over 2,000 votes.

GE15: Johari not worried over Umno, anti-Zahid propaganda
[Image: 06012021_-_KUL_-_Umno_Supreme_Council_jo...HMAN11.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will not be bogged down by narratives accentuated by political rivals attacking its party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, according to Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The Federal Territories Umno liaison chairman said this in dismissing suggestions that Zahid is a liability to the party as it bids to recapture federal power in the coming general election.

Speaking to The Vibes, Johari said the personal charges levelled against the president — including his court cases and accusations of him positioning himself as the prime minister candidate — do not perturb him, as far as Umno’s chances are concerned.

PAS, DAP candidates slammed for playing race, religion card
[Image: Siti-Zailah-Ganabatirau-Fazli-Mohammad-P...1122-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: A youth initiative has taken to task four election candidates for playing up racial and religious sentiments while campaigning on social media.

#KamiNampak named PAS’ Siti Zailah Yusoff, DAP’s V Ganabatirau, Gerakan Tanah Air’s Fazli Mohammad and Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s Priscilla Lau as the candidates involved.

They are contesting parliamentary seats Rantau Panjang, Klang, Balik Pulau and Lanang, respectively.

#KamiNampak coordinator Jason Wee called on candidates to campaign on policies and practices instead of using race and religion “as selling points”

“(Their) use of the race and religion card is short-sighted,” he said in a statement, adding that it would also create mistrust between the different races in the country.

Unfamiliarity could see Warisan facing Peninsula voter contempt
[Image: wee-choo-keong-emel-pic-091122.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR: Klang Valley voters are likely to shun Warisan mainly because they are unfamiliar with the Sabah-based party, if a random and quick FMT survey is anything to go by.

Several voters questioned Warisan’s motive for contesting in the peninsula.

Nurulhuda Tahir, 36, who will be voting in Wangsa Maju in the general election, said she knew of the party but did not know it was contesting in her area. “I don’t know who the candidate is.”

She also said she was wary of the party’s motives.

Campaign ethically, Bersih tells candidates, parties
[Image: 3_BERSIH_LOGO_FMT_04062022.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Bersih has called on parties and candidates in the 15th general election (GE15) to stay clear of campaigning in ways that may violate the Electoral Offences Act 1954.

The electoral reform group said it observed that many parties and candidates were found to have engaged in activities which might be deemed as electoral offences and unethical.

This included offering to change motorcycle engine oil for free, which may be a form of bribery under Section 10 of the Act.

It also said an initiative by Penang DAP to subsidise the travel expenses for voters to return home to cast their ballots was a violation of Sections 10 and 20 of the Act.

GE15: will three Malay seats in Penang pave Pakatan’s path to Putrajaya?
[Image: 06112022_-_Penang_Daily_Life_-_ABDUL_RAZAK_LATIF_02.JPG]

GEORGE TOWN – Three Malay-majority parliamentary seats in Penang can be taken as indicators of Pakatan Harapan’s possible return to power through a simple majority in Parliament in the 15th general election (GE15), the coalition’s candidates said.

The three seats are Kepala Batas, Tasek Gelugor, and Balik Pulau – of these, only Balik Pulau has ever been won by PH.

Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor are in Prai on the mainland, while Balik Pulau is the largest constituency on the island. All three have one important element in common – Malay voters being the dominant ethnic group.

Balik Pulau, which PH through PKR won in 2008, lost to BN in 2013, and won again in 2018, has a Malay electorate of more than 65%.

The Barisan Nasional (BN)-Umno strongholds of Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor have more than 70% Malay voters.
