KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Mahathir Mohamad is convinced that the presence of the national Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman) in Gerakan Tanah Air would help the coalition record a big win in the coming general election.

Mahathir, who is GTA chairman, said his confidence was based on the large number of Iman members throughout the country, and the Indian Muslim community’s willingness to ensure that their voice is heard at all levels of government.

Young voters turned off by opposition lies, party hopping, says Isham
[Image: ISHAM-JALIL-MKT-UMNO-17.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil is confident that young voters will reject Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional at the coming general election.

Isham said youth had a poor view of PH for not delivering on promises in their 2018 manifesto, and were also unlikely to vote for PN as the coalition is made up of “party hoppers”.

We’ll come for Muar: Pakatan Youth cautions Muda to respect coalition
[Image: 16102022_-_Asmaaliff_Abdul_Adam_di_Ceram...HMAN_1.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – In a thinly veiled attack directed at Muda, Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth has threatened to field a candidate in the former’s sole parliamentary seat if its electoral partner refuses to toe the line in seat negotiations.

The caution was issued by Federal Territories Amanah Youth chief Asmaaliff Abdul Adam in light of reports that Muda is eyeing the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat, which was won by PH in the 2018 general election.

“If we have yet to begin proper work together and they (Muda) are already trying to kacau (disturb) Titiwangsa, don’t blame us (PH) if we place a candidate in Muar,” he said, ostensibly referring to Muda’s singular seat held by its president and incumbent MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

“When our friends wanted to join us in PH, we welcomed them…we formed an electoral pact with them to face GE15 (15th general election).

Cooperation with Perikatan may cripple PAS in GE15: analysts
[Image: 07112021-MLK-BENDERA_PARTI_HAMBAR_PAS-Alif_Omar-8.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS’ decision to join forces with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming general election (GE15) will likely weaken the Islamist party’s chances in the national polls, observers said.

Nusantara Academy for Strategic Research senior fellow Azmi Hassan said the move to snub Barisan Nasional (BN) and its linchpin Umno will handicap PAS in preparing to garner votes.

He said this is because PAS, Umno, and Bersatu are targeting the same bloc of Malay voters, with Umno having the “strongest presence” out of the three parties.

“By making Umno their rival, PAS is at a great disadvantage since Umno has the greatest traction among Malay voters.

Perak ruler approves MB’s request to dissolve state assembly
[Image: Perak-state-assembly-edited.jpg]

PERAK ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has consented to Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad’s request to dissolve the state assembly, making it the latest Barisan Nasional (BN)-led state to do so following last Monday’s (Oct 10) dissolution of Parliament.

The dissolution of the state assembly, which comes into effect today, paves the way for Perak to hold its state polls concurrently with the 15th General Election (GE15), which is due by early December.

Perak is now the third state to dissolve its state assembly after Pahang and Perlis did so on Friday (Oct 14) following their state rulers’ respective nods.

Last Wednesday (Oct 12), Saarani was granted an audience with Sultan Nazrin to seek his consent to dissolve the state assembly.

However, as the ruler needed more time to deliberate on the now-caretaker menteri besar’s proposal, the assembly was not dissolved then.

Saarani met with the deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong again on Friday and received the official go-ahead in the form of a watikah (declaration document) yesterday (Oct 16).
