GE15: PSM to contest in Rembau, Ayer Kuning

KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) will be contesting in the Rembau parliamentary seat and Perak's Ayer Kuning state constituency for the 15th general election (GE15).

PSM deputy chairman S. Arulchelvan said the party had chosen these seats based on its presence in the areas, which have a high concentration of working-class communities.

During a press conference this evening, Arulchelvan said the party has also chosen to not contest in a seat that was previously held by Pakatan Harapan, despite PSM’s failure to reach an electoral pact with the opposition coalition.

WITH most of political parties having announced their list of candidates for the 15th General Election (GE15), it is clear that there is plenty of dissatisfaction and unhappiness especially in the UMNO camp.

It comes as no surprise that certain warlords aligned to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob were blatantly dropped though there are touted as sure winners in their respective constituencies.

This clearly goes to show what this general election is all about — nothing more than a desperate attempt by certain individuals to keep themselves out of jail.

This cleansing process also shows that certain individual is only interested in his self-interests and not those of the party. If he was interested in the party, then he would have surely retained the winnable candidates and not take a gamble with new faces at a crucial time like this.

“Dear Malaysian youths, please come out and vote!”

IT is my prayer that the candidates for Bera, Tambun, Bagan Datuk, Semborong, Langkawi, Pagoh, Gua Musang, Marang, Gombak, Larut, Pekan, and all candidates above 55 years old, will all lose their seats, and their deposits, in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19, 2022.

All newly-enfranchised young people should turn up in droves at GE15 to vote out all politicians perceived to be racists, unprincipled, frogs, dishonest or bigots. You have the power to make change happen in Malaysia. Get off your butts, and make the sacred effort to cast your votes.

Cast your votes wisely. Then, we can have a reset in Parliament, governance, and in the major national policies of Malaysia, especially policies on education, on trilingualism for Malaysia, on meritocracy, replacing the NEP with a needs-based policy (NBP), reducing the overbearing presence of government in business and the private sector, reducing the size and cost of the civil service and the cabinet, and dialling back a bit on matters of the afterlife, while focusing a little bit more, on matters of the here and now.

GPS ‘ready to fight’ as PN announces entry into Sarawak

PETALING JAYA: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader has declared that the coalition is ready to do battle with Perikatan Nasional in the Nov 19 general election.

“We’ll let the voters decide if they want GPS or a Malayan-based party,” Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told FMT when asked to comment on PN’s decision to field candidates for four of the 31 seats in Sarawak.

Umno seen to be clipping Ismail’s wings

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional’s decision to drop a number of big names from its general election lineup has prompted an analyst to speculate that Umno is trying to weaken Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s influence.

Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Umno could be clipping Ismail’s wings by not fielding some of his allies who served his administration as ministers and deputy ministers.

Undi18, automatic registration could lead to unfair polls

PETALING JAYA: Electoral reform group Bersih and a research centre claim that Undi18 and automatic voter registration have opened doors for gerrymandering and can lead to the denial of equal representation.

Their spokesmen said this was because urban voters had significantly increased in number over rural voters.

Bersih chairman Thomas Fann said gerrymandering and malapportionment were the main reasons Malaysian elections could not be considered fair.

He said urban constituencies were more likely to be gerrymandered than rural constituencies.

GE15: you have to choose between Anwar or Zahid as PM, says Gobind

SHAH ALAM – The choice for voters in the 15th general election (GE15) is Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for prime minister or Umno’s Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo said.

“It is down to these two leaders.

“The coming polls will be an election to pick one prime minister, and we have two choices – Anwar and Zahid,” Gobind said at a Selangor PH even to introduce its candidates tonight.

He warned that if PH is not given the mandate to form the next federal government, then Zahid will in all likelihood be the person to take on Putrajaya’s hot seat.

GPS and PH collaboration after GE15 unlikely, say analysts

PETALING JAYA: An alliance between Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Pakatan Harapan after the 15th general election (GE15) is unlikely, say analysts.

Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara and Council of Professors fellow Jeniri Amir said working with Borneo parties is not an uncommon strategy as coalitions from the Peninsula want to form the government.

“GPS stands to win the most number of seats, about 27 or 28, making them the ideal ally not just for PH but for Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional too,” Azmi told FMT.

However, he said the bad blood between GPS and PH may prevent an alliance from being formed, especially after PH cancelled many projects in Sarawak during its 22 months in power.

Warisan completes candidates list for all 25 seats in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan president Shafie Apdal has announced another 13 candidates for the 15th general election (GE15), completing the list for all 25 seats it is contesting in Sabah.

In total, the party will contest 53 parliamentary seats, including 27 in Peninsular Malaysia and one in Labuan.

Former Labuan MP Rozman Isli, and Ma’mun Sulaiman, the former Kalabakan MP, will both defend seats they won at the last general election.

Sekong assemblyman Alias Sani has been slated to contest the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat previously held by former law minister Liew Vui Keong. The seat has remained vacant since Liew’s passing in October 2020.
