Dizzer: My two sen worth on this ludicrous 'identity' issue.

A month ago, as part of a module on 'Identity', I asked 20 kids in my Form 4 class (in an international school but all Malaysian students - 70 percent Chinese, 30 percent Indian/Malay) about where they thought they came from.

All of them said they considered themselves to be Malaysian first, even though a lot of them (I'm sorry to say most) will end up overseas, seldom returning except to see their families.

Only one kid had any idea beyond their grandparents. He had been on a family reunion to one of the southern provinces - they'd done a genealogical search - and said it was interesting but they had nothing in common with each other.

Of the Malays, two had grandparents from Indonesia and Yemen respectively; the other two hadn't a clue.

Why can't Dr Mahathir Mohamad listen to the younger generation? I can't think of many Malaysian kids over the past 30 years that I've thought of as constitutionally and emotionally racist. But once they get out into the world, the realities of the system hit them.

It's the system, not the people.

Why is it that the West is so preoccupied with China?
Posted by: superadmin - 12-13-2021, 09:44 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Professor Dennis Etler

American political analyst who holds a doctorate in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley

As I See It:

Why is it that the West is so preoccupied with China? The usual answer is that China's economic growth is challenging Western global hegemony which has held sway for at least 250 years. The Chinese military has also reached parity with that of the West, so it is no longer subject to Western intimidation and bullying. All that is true and reason for the West to want to savage China and portray it as the root of all evil.

But there is one other consideration that must be taken into account. It's not only China's economic prowess and military might that frightens the West, it is also China's success as a nation versus the West's failure.

Moreover, China has forged a society in which there is harmony between its different ethnicities in contrast to the systemic racism that characterizes Western society.

Western ruling elites and their media mouthpieces do not want to acknowledge the fact that China has eliminated extreme poverty while more and more of their own people descend into poverty. They do not want to admit that China has constructed a 21st century infrastructure while they lag far behind. They do not want to confront the fact that the Chinese people ⁹overwhelmingly support their government while people in the West have lost confidence in their own, they do not want to accept that China beat COVIDC-19 while they haven't, and finally they are loathe to accept the fact that a non-white nation has out performed them and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.

In order to deflect attention away from these truths the West has concocted a series of lies and slanders that allow them to deny reality. Instead of poverty alleviation the West imagines "genocide." Instead of the advances in HSR, EVs, alt-energy and e-commerce they focus on "IP theft," instead of a socioeconomic system that serves the people, they accuse China of forced labor and forced sterilizations. Instead of seeing China as defending its national sovereignty in the South China Sea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, it's called an aggressor.

All the China-bashing serves multiple purposes but ONE of the main reasons is to make sure that people in the West do not get to hear nor see what the real China is all about because if they did they may get ideas that the Western elites don't want then to have, such as socialism works for the betterment of the 99% while capitalism works primarily to enrich the 1%.

What’s behind Dr M’s joust with Tony Pua?
Posted by: superadmin - 12-13-2021, 07:17 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: tun-mahathir-mohamad-tony-pua-collage-131221-1.jpg]

From Terence Netto

The spat between Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tony Pua that has been sparking in the political arena the past few days is interesting for what it may suggest about the former prime minister’s motives.

The public will not get any the wiser about the issues involved in the kerfuffle because Mahathir is not an elucidator.

Only when his cause stands to benefit will he endeavour to explain his side of a controversy.

In that event, he can be lucid, and his would often be the more persuasive presentation vis-à-vis his interlocutor’s.

At other times, he is apt to bring up an issue in bits and pieces, dribs and drabs, to serve an ulterior purpose he nurses, a purpose that may not be evident to observers at the outset of the skirmish he is engaged in.

Dr M always has a purpose, but won’t tell, for Dr M’s craft is essentially Machiavellian. That necessarily means gaining one’s purpose by stealth and surprise; elaborate explanations are reckoned unnecessary and self-defeating.

Khalid Samad blasts ‘Malay warriors’ over possible acquisition of Kg Baru land
Posted by: superadmin - 12-13-2021, 05:01 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat has allowed a motion by Khalid Samad (Shah Alam-PH) to debate matters concerning the government’s possible acquisition of land in the traditional Malay enclave of Kg Baru in the capital city.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat-Bersatu) told the House that the debate will proceed in a special chamber at 2.30pm today.

Khalid requested a motion to debate the matter last Wednesday, emphasising that the matter is of national interest.

“This specifically involves the government’s action of using the Land Acquisition Act 1960 to nab land away from the residents of Kg Baru.

“This matter is of national interest because the land belongs to people who have lived there for generations,” Khalid said.

GT Investigates: Western-style ‘democracy’ losing luster, with China’s political system performing better than US’ in the eyes of the nation’s youth
[Image: d0a2f7a1-2a1f-44a6-9675-45b38b92ab1f.jpeg]

A recent questionnaire survey conducted by the Global Times found that most Chinese young people, especially Generation Z born in the 1990s and 2000s, now view China as more democratic than the US and Western political systems, which are no longer considered a "role model" of democracy, while Washington held a "summit for democracy" in a vain attempt to keep hold of its monopoly in defining "democracy."

The survey includes 10 questions about the view of China's Generation Z on democracy and the comparison between the Chinese political system and US political system's performance in realizing democracy for the peoples of the two countries. The survey finds that most participants, who used to believe in Western democracy (including a multi-party system, 'one person one vote' and a tripartite structure) is "the only correct answer of democracy for the world," have no longer held this view.

MIRI – National opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is bringing the PKR “reformasi” war cry into rural Sarawak to stop what he said are decades of oppression and injustice by the state regime.

The PKR president went to the Lambir constituency last night, and told Malaysians in longhouses and villages there that they must stand up for their rights.

“The land you live on has abundant natural resources like rich forest products, oil and gas, and mineral resources,” he said.

“However, all this wealth is being taken away by those in power, by the rich towkays and powerful politicians. They turn forests into timber camps, they take away all your wealth.

Bian told The Vibes he was informed that a total of RM3.21 million will be distributed to 80 BEM churches in Trusan and Lawas, both polling districts of Ba’kelalan.

Posted by: superadmin - 12-13-2021, 03:00 PM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: 20211201-zairil_khir_johari-bernama.jpg]

GEORGE TOWN – Penang plans to open a request for proposal (RFP) for any suitable company in the private sector keen to develop a light rail transit (LRT) system that connects the international airport in Bayan Lepas to Komtar in town.

State Infrastructure and Transportation committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, who confirmed this, said that the state plans to come up with the RFP next year. He said it is part of the state’s commitment to alleviate traffic congestion here.

He said that the state plans to call for the RFP to see if there is any interest in undertaking the project out there.

“Right now, there is some interest among the private players, but nothing is official. We will decide on the matter when it becomes official,” he said when asked about the status of the proposed LRT project.
