Regulating cryptocurrencies a bad idea, say economists
Posted by: superadmin - 12-16-2021, 09:50 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Two economists have backed Putrajaya’s decision to refrain from regulating cryptocurrencies, with one saying it would be an onerous undertaking and the other welcoming the challenge to a government monopoly.

Geoffrey Williams of the Malaysia University of Science and Technology said regulators would find themselves constantly chasing errant traders since cryptocurrencies were private assets generated in unregulated global markets.

Imposing high fines, jail for flouting SOPs won’t work, says expert
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 08:14 PM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

[Image: Adeeba-Kamarulzaman-chairman-Malaysian-A...-fmt-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Imposing harsher punishment and fines on those flouting Covid-19 SOPs will not be effective in ensuring public compliance, according to infectious disease expert Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman.

She said criminalisation of behaviour to deter infectious diseases has proven to be ineffective.

“People will find ways to overcome this,” she said during a webinar organised by Khazanah Research Institute today,

It would also lead to inequality, she added. The wealthy will be able to get away with a RM10,000 fine while the poor may end up in prison for failure to pay the fine.

Adeeba said she was in favour of more enforcement of existing laws for those flouting SOPs.

Banks set to reinstate RM1 MEPS withdrawal fee on Feb 1, triggering netizens’ outburst

KUALA LUMPUR – The decision by banks in the country to reimpose the RM1 Malaysian Electronic Payment System interbank ATM withdrawal fee starting February 1 has triggered netizens to air their frustrations on social media to express their displeasure on the matter.

In April last year, then senior defence minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced that all banks in Malaysia will temporarily waive the fee imposed on withdrawals – made at ATM machines that differ from the account holder’s bank – until the end of the movement control order period.

Checks by The Vibes found banks that will be reimposing the fee include:

PAS to unite all Malay parties through Muafakat: party spiritual adviser
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 12:03 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20211215_hashim_jasin_pas_Tuan_Guru_Haji...in_fb.jpeg]

ARAU – PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin has underlined the party’s intentions to keep negotiations open between all Malay-based parties so it can consolidate the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact, which currently comprises the Islamist party and Umno.

Despite the ongoing differences between Umno and Bersatu before, during, and after the recently concluded Melaka polls, Hashim said both parties continue to be friends of PAS.

“PAS is grateful that Umno retained Melaka through BN and the state did not fall to Pakatan Harapan,” Hashim told reporters, here, recently.

Despite PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s call to sever ties with Umno during the Melaka election, Hashim justified it, saying that it was merely Hadi’s personal opinion.

Admitting that the strategy to team up with Bersatu through the Perikatan Nasional coalition failed in Melaka, Hashim said PAS remains committed in spearheading the MN pact because Malay-Muslim unity remains an ultimate goal of the party.

The senior cleric opined that if the party’s former comrades in Amanah can be convinced, they should be allowed to join MN.

Syed Saddiq slams hypocrites who want to ‘divide Malaysia forever’
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 11:58 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has hit out at “hypocrisy and double standards” practised by those pushing for a gambling ban and a clampdown on the sale of alcohol, saying they want to use Islam “for their own personal interest”.

In a wide-ranging interview with former diplomat Dennis Ignatius today, the former youth and sports minister also blasted such parties for “wanting to divide Malaysia forever”.

Syed Saddiq was replying to Ignatius’ claim about “creeping Islamisation” in the country, stating that there was a growing sense that Islamic authorities are increasingly dismissive of non-Muslim rights.

“Do not blame Muslims or Islam. Blame those who masquerade as Islam’s defenders for their own personal interest and want to divide Malaysia forever,” said Syed Saddiq.

“Why do I say this? It’s not about Islam, it’s about hypocrisy, the biggest hypocrisy in Malaysia.”

What about 100-day report card of special envoys, asks Kit Siang
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 11:54 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Hadi-Awang-Tiong-King-Sing-Richard-Riot-...swaran.jpg]

PETALING: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has questioned whether Malaysia’s special ambassadors have submitted their 100-day report cards.

Lim, the Iskandar Puteri MP, said the special ambassadors are paid by public funds and the people have a right to know how they have performed.

“Can the four special envoys – Abdul Hadi Awang, Tiong King Sing, Richard Riot and SA Vigneswaran – produce their 100-day report cards? If not, what are they useful for?” he asked in a statement today.

Hadi is the special envoy to the Middle East, Tiong to China, Riot to Japan, Korea and Taiwan, and Vigneswaran to India and South Asia.

Lim said he had previously asked whether Hadi had been banned from Saudi Arabia and had never visited the country since his appointment in April 2020, but no answer had been forthcoming.

Farmers in Perak’s largest vegetable-producing area ‘told to go’
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 11:49 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: More than 130 third-generation farmers in Kanthan, Perak have been told by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) to vacate over 1,000 acres of land that they have been toiling on for more than six decades, according to Parti Sosialis Malaysia chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj.

He said the move could deal a potential blow to the country’s food security as the land is the single largest vegetable-producing region in the state, and could lead to more price increases at a time when vegetable prices are soaring.

The Kanthan area currently produces around 50 to 60 tonnes of produce a day, he told FMT.

Jeyakumar said he was concerned about the impact that the eviction would have on vegetable prices, one of the hottest topics in the country of late. The price of vegetables such as pak choy has surged by 200%.

Poverty in Borneo is proof of NEP failure, says Syed Saddiq
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 11:45 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: The New Economic Policy (NEP) needs to be reviewed because it has failed, as can be seen from the level of poverty in East Malaysia, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said.

The former youth and sports minister said the policy, announced in 1970 following the May 13 riots the year before, had some “good parts” which should be kept but also had “bad parts” that have to be done away with.

Syed Saddiq said there was a need to learn from missteps that stemmed from the NEP, adding that the policy itself had to be reformed.

“Look at Sabah and Sarawak. Despite decades of the implementation of the NEP, a quarter of Sabah and Sarawak Bumiputeras still live below the poverty line.

Dr M’s chopsticks logic and other bloopers
Posted by: superadmin - 12-15-2021, 11:07 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Kua Kia Soong

It is time for the Malaysian boy to stand up and point out that “the Pharoah has no clothes!”

Dr Mahathir Mohamad is making one gaffe after another without feeling any tinge of shame or remorse. His example of the Chinese community using chopsticks to highlight their challenges in assimilating into the Malay population in the country is but the latest in a line of embarrassing bloopers that started from the first book he wrote.

Mahathir’s intellectual dilemma

Mahathir’s first book, The Malay Dilemma, was an instant hit among the ambitious power- grabbers in Umno since it provided them with a recipe for rallying populist support along ethnic lines in their bid for power just before May 13, 1969.

It was a time-tested recipe for opportunistic politicians to use “race” as the rallying cry for political support. Hitler’s Mein Kampf was, of course, the tragic earlier model for such a political route.

Mahathir’s The Malay Dilemma shares the same paradigm as Hitler’s Mein Kampf and present-day white supremacists in the sense that they analyse society from the perspective of “race”.

What are some tips for buying and using washing machines?
Posted by: onikka - 12-15-2021, 09:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (23)

Hi,
I strongly believe that all the machines wash cloths equally good, so you can look the following -

1.Price should suite your budget
2.A good and dependable brand
3.Model should be latest, so the features should be contemporary and relevant
4.Ease of operation, minimum labor
5.Adequate load capacity, so that most of the times all the general clothes can be washed in a single wash
6.Very important, if going for auto, to decide if top loading or front loading suites you… very important

I think that I have covered all the practical points here, still ask the lady of the house to give her final approval before finalizing it, as you sure won't like to hear her complaints even after spending so much. Find out every detail and review on each brand before buying.
What says u?
