PETALING JAYA: Two years of hard work in Malaysia was enough for Nepalese Krishna Timilsina to save RM23,000 (700,000 Nepalese rupees), a sum that has now catapulted him into a successful international garment exporter based in Kathmandu.
His company, Thread Garment, supplies clothes not only to Qatar and Dubai but also Malaysia where he had worked his fingers to the bone. In what he says as giving back to his country, he now employs 850 people in his branches.
“In 2008, I packed my bags and migrated overseas for work. I got a job at a factory in Malaysia, loading boxes full of surgical gloves onto shipping containers. It used to be so hot and humid inside the metal containers that I would be drenched in sweat.

The Twitter Files – How US Govt & Big Pharma Like Pfizer Suppressed Covid-19 Info Which Could Affect Their Profits
![[Image: Elon-Musk-Twitter-Blue-Subscription.jpg]](http://www.financetwitter.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Elon-Musk-Twitter-Blue-Subscription.jpg)
A new war has erupted on social media thanks to Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk. Pledging to fight for transparency at the microblogging site, the billionaire raised eyebrows last month when he wrote – “Twitter is both a social media company and a crime scene“. The big boss of Tesla and SpaceX subsequently showed a gravestone with a message “Twitter’s darkest secrets”.
And so begins the “Twitter Files”, where scandals or dark secrets are being exposed at the pleasure of the 51-year-old business tycoon. Ranging from how the social network blocked stories related to Hunter Biden’s laptop to help Joe Biden wins the 2020 US Presidential election to powerful pharmaceutical companies suppressing Covid information, the Twitter Files are more explosive than Ukraine War.
Musk’s latest project exposes collusion between tech companies, American politicians and the “deep state” to silence the public. People read for the first time unheard strategy like “shadow banning” – using algorithms to “de-amplify” tweets in order to stop tweets reaching a wider audience. Twitter Files also unveiled how the FBI regularly holds meetings with Twitter executives.

DPP’s ‘anti-mainland card’ fails, wider division expected as secessionist resigns as head of island’s ‘executive body’
![[Image: 4cf6edab-c89e-4bdb-89c8-0d02ccd321f3.jpeg]](https://www.globaltimes.cn/Portals/0/attachment/2023/2023-01-05/4cf6edab-c89e-4bdb-89c8-0d02ccd321f3.jpeg)
The head of Taiwan island's executive body Su Tseng-chang announced on Thursday that his team will resign en masse, and his resignation is pending approval from the regional leader Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan-based media outlets have reported.
Cross-Straits observers say they believe the resignation of the diehard secessionist who has poisoned cross-Straits relations, along with his decreasing popularity, highlights the fiasco of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)'s strategy of "resisting the Chinese mainland and protecting Taiwan." With Su's resignation and Tsai's earlier resignation as head of the DPP, the secessionist party's internal divisions are expected to intensify.
Su made the announcement after the region's "legislature" approved the general budget for fiscal 2023 and closed for winter recess on Thursday. Following the approval of the budget, he met with Tsai and again tendered his resignation after an earlier offer to resign was turned down.
Su is a diehard Taiwan secessionist who was put on a sanctions list by the Chinese mainland in November 2021, according to the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Binance was final destination for millions in funds from Bitzlato, exchange shut down for alleged money laundering
- Data from Arkham Intelligence shows that tens of millions of dollars flowed from an alleged nexus of money laundering, Bitzlato, through intermediate wallets to Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange.
- A FinCEN complaint from Wednesday noted that Binance was Bitzlato’s largest counterparty, but blockchain data reveals rudimentary efforts to conceal where funds came from before they arrived in Binance custody.
- Binance and its chief executive, Changpeng Zhao, are reportedly under federal scrutiny over anti-money laundering compliance.
Federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment against a little-known crypto exchange called Bitzlato on Wednesday, alleging that it facilitated the laundering of $700 million in tainted crypto tied to the now-shuttered dark-web market Hydra, and millions more in ransomware proceeds.
Blockchain data shows that tens of millions of dollars that passed through Bitzlato ultimately ended up in Binance deposit wallets, despite the stringent anti-money laundering standards that Binance says it has implemented.
Binance, the largest crypto exchange in the world, has not been connected to any criminal activity, nor have regulators accused it of knowingly accepting illicit funds, although the exchange is reportedly under its own criminal probe by the Department of Justice in relation to its compliance with anti-money laundering, or AML, laws.

Crypto lender Genesis files for bankruptcy in latest blow to Barry Silbert’s DCG empire
- Genesis Trading filed for bankruptcy protection after suffering crippling losses from the collapses of FTX and hedge fund Three Arrows Capital.
- Genesis is a part of Barry Silbert’s Digital Currency Group, which has seen mounting problems in recent months.
- Some of Genesis’ largest clients include Circle, which operates stablecoin USD Coin, and Gemini, which is backed by the Winklevoss twins.
Crypto lender Genesis filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late Thursday night in Manhattan federal court, the latest casualty in the industry contagion caused by the collapse of FTX and a crippling blow to a business once at the heart of Barry Silbert’s Digital Currency Group.
The company listed over 100,000 creditors in a “mega” bankruptcy filing, with aggregate liabilities ranging from $1.2 billion to $11 billion dollars, according to bankruptcy documents.

The US just hit the debt limit. What happens now? |

The United States hit the debt ceiling — the total amount of money the federal government can legally borrow — on Thursday as lawmakers continued to clash over negotiations to raise the limit. The Treasury Department is now deploying what it calls “extraordinary measures” to make sure the country can keep paying its bills.
Although “extraordinary measures” might sound alarming, economists say the Treasury has a history of using them, and those changes shouldn’t immediately impact the lives of Americans. They essentially work as accounting tools that temporarily allow the government to continue funding its normal operations and help buy Congress more time to reach a deal.
In a letter to congressional leadership, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the Treasury Department started to use some of its extraordinary measures after the current debt limit of $31.4 trillion was projected to be hit on Thursday, but she said the amount of time the measures would last was subject to “considerable uncertainty.”
Although this means the country will be able to avoid defaulting on its debt for now, if that does eventually happen for the first time, the consequences would be dire. That would not only be bad for Americans who depend on government benefits like Social Security checks, but it would also create chaos in the stock market and inflict pain across the broader economy.

JOHOR BARU – Those who intend to see the MCA party president replaced should first identify the individual they believe can do a better job than the incumbent Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, said several grassroots leaders.
Despite the criticisms against the Ayer Hitam lawmaker, Iskandar Puteri MCA division chief Datuk Jason Teoh believes Wee is still the “best of the best from the current batch of leaders” in the party ranks.
