PH party chiefs to be consulted if any ex-Umno leader wants to join
Posted by: superadmin - 01-30-2023, 07:13 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (2)

PETALING JAYA: The views of component party leaders will be taken into account before Pakatan Harapan (PH) decides to accept any sacked Umno leaders, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar, who is also the prime minister, said this was important to preserve cooperation in the unity government.

“This is necessary to maintain the principles, peace and unity within the government. So, we will have to give it a lot more consideration,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a function in Ipoh today.

Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar were sacked from Umno on Friday for breaching party discipline during the recent general election.

China’s COVID response withstands test for Spring Festival holidays
Posted by: superadmin - 01-29-2023, 11:38 AM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

China is poised to withstand the hard COVID test for the Spring Festival holidays as most cities and regions have already passed their infection peaks, and adequate preparations and contingency plans put in place by authorities at all levels, the hard work of medical workers as well as enhanced vaccinations have allowed residents to enjoy a safe and warm Spring Festival without triggering a large-scale resurgence of infections so far.

Unlike some Western media outlets that predicted China's small cities and rural areas would see tsunami-like infections following the Spring Festival travel rush, not only the country witnessed a warm and joyful Spring Festival with its airports, bus and train stations fully crowded - images that have not been seen in the past three years, it also gradually reopens to the world with a total of 2.45 million trips crossing the border during the Spring Festival travel peak

During the Spring Festival holidays, Global Times reporters visited different localities from North China's Shanxi to Southwest China's Chongqing to Central China's Hubei. In these regions the number of positive cases has been largely declining during the holidays and only limited number of patients was hospitalized. The pressure on local fever clinics has also eased.

Umno’s actions post-GE15 signals ‘start of its demise’, says insider

PETALING JAYA: Umno’s decision to sack and suspend a host of leaders is another indication that the party is headed in the wrong direction, says a party leader.

“The way we’ve carried ourselves after the general election (GE15) is wrong. There was no post-mortem, no remorse, no accountability, and there will be no contest for the top two posts in the party polls,” said the leader who declined to be named.”

Umno suffered its heaviest defeat in GE15, winning only 26 seats. It failed to win a single parliamentary seat in Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Melaka, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis.

“Now we’ve sacked and suspended a host of leaders, including those viewed as progressive like Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan. I fear this is the start of Umno’s demise,” said the source.

We’ll decide when the time comes, says Rafizi on KJ joining PKR
Posted by: superadmin - 01-28-2023, 09:42 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR: Any decision to invite or allow former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin to join PKR will need to be discussed by the party leaders, says Rafizi Ramli.

The PKR deputy president said the matter has not been brought up thus far, and if and when it arises, it will be a consensus.

“The matter (of Khairy joining PKR) has not arisen. When it does, certainly PKR needs to discuss the matter.

“However, it is not my decision alone,” he told reporters after a forum at the Parliament last night.

Rafizi said the party will continue to monitor any development on Khairy’s future in politics following his expulsion from Umno and review the situation when necessary.

Umno last night sacked Khairy and former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar as well as suspended several leaders, including Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, for “breaching party discipline during the 15th general election (GE15)”.

In a tweet, Khairy said that he was “unbowed, unbent and unbroken” by Umno’s decision.

Racism is bred in Malaysian schools
Posted by: superadmin - 01-28-2023, 09:21 AM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - No Replies

[Image: shankar-r-santhiram-columnist-new-170321-1.jpg]

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote that it is terrifying to think about how racist Malaysia can be. This week, it seems like a school in Johor Bahru has taken my fear to baffling levels.

An all-girls “elite” school in JB allegedly conducted a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) workshop exclusively for its poor-performing Malay-Muslim students, in a hotel. The school originally claimed that the programme was meant only for Muslim students, as it would be focusing on Islamic studies.

But later it was exposed that the workshop was wide-ranging, and included critical subjects like chemistry and additional mathematics. Naturally, non-Malay parents demanded an explanation from the school.
