Absent in Budget 2022, yet 155 JKOM appointments found in separate allocation
Posted by: superadmin - 11-22-2021, 07:18 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – The controversial Community Communications Department (JKOM) became a heated subject in the Dewan Rakyat today when Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai-PH) questioned its absence under Budget 2022.

The lawmaker said it had come to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s (Port Dickson-PH) attention on November 17 that JKOM was not listed in Budget 2022’s estimated expenditure.

Fahmi noted the department is instead listed under Putrajaya’s Senarai Perjawatan 2022 (appointments list for 2022).

“It was stated that JKOM was not listed under Budget 2022’s estimated expenditure. Alternatively, JKOM is listed under the appointments list for 2022, with 155 appointments.

“I tried finding further details on the matter, so I hope the minister will explain,” he added.

The PKR communications chief also questioned the attorney-general’s (AG) decision to withdraw the appeal against Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (Putrajaya-BN) over his corruption case, in which the Court of Appeal had overturned the high court’s conviction.

He said Putrajaya needs to answer on whether the decision was made at the AG’s discretion, or if there was interference from the cabinet.

Where’s your succession plan, Zaid asks PH
Posted by: superadmin - 11-22-2021, 07:11 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A former minister has told Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties to ask themselves who can best lead the coalition after its dismal showing in the Melaka polls.

Zaid Ibrahim said that instead of asking opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to resign, PKR, DAP and Amanah should identify possible successors and push them up into leadership positions.

This comes following calls from politicians and analysts urging Anwar to step aside as the leader of PH and PKR.

However, Zaid said the coalition and its supporters should know what their goals are and decide who could replace Anwar.

“It is true that a political leader who is not able to deliver electoral victories should step aside. Anwar has failed, make no mistake about that,” the former law minister said.

Unanimity could have prevented PH blunder in Melaka, says Kit Siang
Posted by: superadmin - 11-22-2021, 02:16 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) should make unanimity a rule for decision-making by its presidential council instead of component parties deciding crucial matters on their own, said DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.

He said matters that involved national policies and political decisions vital for the integrity of the coalition must be unanimous before being implemented.

Citing the move by PKR and Amanah to accept party-hoppers to stand as candidates for the coalition in Melaka, Lim said such a rule would have prevented this “blunder”, as shown by the total rejection of the two candidates by the voters.

The DAP was openly against PKR’s decision to accept Umno’s former Melaka chief minister Idris Haron as a candidate for the Asahan seat and Amanah’s move to field Nor Azman Hassan in Pantai Kundor. Both lost their seats by big margins.

“PH should never lose the moral high ground of integrity, public service before self and being Malaysian first in a multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural nation,” he said in a statement today.

Lone wolf, new blood, waning ‘tsunami’: what can we learn from Melaka polls?
Posted by: superadmin - 11-22-2021, 11:29 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 14112021_-_MLK_-_Lawatan_Anwar_Ibrahim_b...HMAN_5.JPG]

MELAKA – As the curtains drew to a close on the Melaka polls yesterday, Barisan Nasional (BN) had the last laugh as it celebrated a landslide win – clinching 21 of the 28 seats up for grabs.

While the Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi-led outfit’s triumph was expected, its two-thirds majority victory exceeded supposition.

Meanwhile, two other political blocs – Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) – were left to lick their wounds after only winning five and two seats, respectively.

PH’s sound defeat, which included an annihilation for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s PKR, is a severe blow to the opposition alliance.

Despite predictions that PN would suffer a wipeout, the outfit led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin – which stood between two giant coalitions – managed to maintain its 2018 two-seat win, claiming Sg Udang and Bemban.

So, what can we learn from the Melaka election?

‘Shock’ as MACC confirms RM65mil in 1MDB funds held by Zeti’s husband
Posted by: superadmin - 11-21-2021, 10:40 PM - Forum: Politics - Replies (1)

[Image: Tawfiq-Ayman-Zeti-Akthar-Aziz-collage-191121-2.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) revelation that at least RM65 million in 1MDB-linked funds recovered from Singapore were held by a company belonging to a former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor’s husband is “shocking”, says a Barisan Nasional leader.

Earlier today, MACC said it has to date, managed to recover assets and funds linked to 1MDB amounting to RM20.5 billion.

This, it said included the return of assets worth US$15.4 million (RM64.4 million) involving the accounts of Cutting Edge Industries Ltd owned by Tawfiq Ayman and Samuel Goh.

Tawfiq is the husband of former BNM governor Zeti Akthar Aziz, a witness in former prime minister Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial.

Tawfiq had previously been questioned by police in connection with 1MDB funds, although there has been no update on the probe.

Go for the young Malay swing votes, PH told
Posted by: superadmin - 11-21-2021, 10:37 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Liew-Chin-Tong-election-campaign-thanksg...aka-FB.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan must be given a fresh look and new substance so that the swing voters will choose it instead of Umno and Barisan Nasional, or Perikatan Nasional, DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong said.

Liew, who is the party’s national political education director, said DAP must be steadfast to make itself a national party of all Malaysians with a Malaysian First outlook. “We must resist all calls to ‘retreat’ or to be a parochial party,” he said.

For PH, he urged the coalition to become a “big tent” to house all the forces opposed to the old politics of Umno, BN and PN.

“The revamped PH must be the choice for all swing voters and younger voters,” he said in a speech at a thanksgiving lunch in Ayer Keroh for campaign workers and volunteers.

He said younger Malay swing voters who despised Umno or BN had voted for PN, instead of PH.

Kit Siang: Is the table set for Najib's comeback as PM?
Posted by: superadmin - 11-21-2021, 07:58 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang has questioned whether BN's victory in the Malacca polls will mark the eventual return of Pekan MP Najib Abdul Razak as Malaysia's 10th prime minister.

Citing Najib's Facebook video this morning, Lim (above) said the Pekan MP had acted as the "commander-in-chief" of the Umno campaign in Malacca.

"The question automatically arises whether the Malacca election will be a stepping stone for Najib to become the 10th prime minister of Malaysia.

"Najib thanked the Malacca voters for supporting him and Umno and he described the satisfaction of BN’s state election big win yesterday with a good night’s sleep," said Lim.

Sri Lanka ends farm chemical ban as organic drive fails
Posted by: superadmin - 11-21-2021, 07:45 PM - Forum: Environment Protection News - No Replies

COLOMBO – Sri Lanka abandoned its quest to become the world’s first completely organic farming nation today, announcing it would immediately lift an import ban on pesticides and other agricultural inputs.

The island country has been in the grips of a severe economic crisis, with a lack of foreign exchange triggering shortages of food, crude oil, and other essential goods.

Authorities had already walked back restrictions on fertiliser imports last month for tea, the country’s main export earner.

But ahead of planned farmer protests in the capital, Sri Lanka’s agricultural ministry said it would end a broader ban on all agrochemicals, including herbicides and pesticides.

“We will now allow chemical inputs that are urgently needed,” ministry secretary Udith Jayasinghe told the private News First TV network.

“Considering the need to ensure food security, we have taken this decision.”

If you want govt gifts, just steal money, says Guan Eng mocking Najib
Posted by: superadmin - 11-21-2021, 07:41 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

SANDAKAN – If one wants gifts from the government, just steal its money, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng sarcastically as he lambasted a proposal to award former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak with land and a house worth an estimated RM100 million.

Lim said in a press conference here that the government is supposed to use its powers to help the people, and not help a convict.

“He (Najib) has been convicted; fined and punished with imprisonment. He has been linked to a scandal that had cost the country RM53 billion. Yet we are gifting him with a RM100 million house?

“This shows that if one wants gifts from the government, one can steal lots of government money. I don’t understand this. This is wrong. The government is misusing its powers to help a single individual.”

On Thursday, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz confirmed that the government had received an application by Najib for the alleged RM100 million residence.
