PETALING JAYA: The views of component party leaders will be taken into account before Pakatan Harapan (PH) decides to accept any sacked Umno leaders, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar, who is also the prime minister, said this was important to preserve cooperation in the unity government.

“This is necessary to maintain the principles, peace and unity within the government. So, we will have to give it a lot more consideration,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a function in Ipoh today.

Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar were sacked from Umno on Friday for breaching party discipline during the recent general election.

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Umno Padang Besar division chief Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin is set to join PKR, claiming that many others will do likewise following a massive purge from the nationalist Malay party.

The former deputy communications and multimedia minister told Sinar Harian that among those set to leave include party office-bearers at the national level.

He also said he is planning to submit his membership form to join PKR on February 4.

“There will be some 100 members of the Padang Besar Umno division who plan to join (submit membership forms) PKR this February 4. It is expected that many (Umno) branches in Padang Besar will be dissolved,” he was quoted as saying.

Noh Omar more likely to join PN, but not KJ, says analyst

PETALING JAYA: Former Umno Supreme Council member Noh Omar is more likely to join Perikatan Nasional (PN) than Pakatan Harapan (PH), giving a boost to the opposition coalition in Selangor ahead of the state polls, says an analyst.

Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, however, said Noh’s former comrade, Khairy Jamaluddin, who was also sacked by Umno, is unlikely to join PN.

“Noh was a traditional Umno warlord. His style and beliefs are incompatible with PH’s reformist image, so I don’t see him joining them,” Oh told FMT.

“I think he is more suited for PN and he has built up a power base in Selangor. Being a local warlord, he and his supporters can easily move to a new platform.”
