Our fear of extremism is justified when Taliban praised Hadi!

Taliban spokesman calls PAS’ Hadi ‘insightful’ religious scholar, diplomat

JOHOR BARU – The Taliban has praised PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang as both an “insightful” and “experienced” leader in the areas of diplomacy and Islamic academia.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s (IEA) Chief of Political Office Muhammad Suhail Shaheen said Hadi expressed a desire to strengthen ties between Malaysia and his nation.

Quote:I found him (Hadi) an experienced and insightful religious scholar and diplomat who wants to have good and close relations with the IEA and the people of Afghanistan.

“I am looking forward to having such meetings with various high-profile personalities from Malaysia frequently,” Suhail told The Vibes when contacted.

His comments come in light of a meeting held in February last year between Suhail and Hadi – who was then the prime minister’s special envoy to the Middle East – in Doha, Qatar.

Following a tweet after the meeting, Suhail said Hadi promised that Malaysia would do what it can to assist Afghanistan and improve bilateral relations.

Revised unity budget to focus on SMEs, green and digital economy: Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 01-17-2023, 10:20 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

PUTRAJAYA – The revised 2023 unity government budget will be focusing on small and medium enterprises (SME) as well as the green and digital economy, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the pre-budget dialogue today.

The prime minister said these three sectors will be critical, particularly in light of the current global economic slowdown stemming from multiple factors, including the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid-19 post-pandemic.

“Sometimes we are disconnected from reality. Bankers and mega corporations focus on solutions for their industries but we must not forget our goal of developing the community and the country. That’s why I use the term ‘civil society’ because this is a sustainability issue.

“We must think for both, short and long term. The nation cannot be sustainable if there are leakages, robbing the land of its timber as has happened before. Sustainability cannot be defended if there is no clear commitment on climate change.

“Thus, we need a new clear policy to regenerate our green areas,” said Anwar. – The Vibes, January 17, 2023

Contest against PH at state polls, analyst tells MCA, MIC
Posted by: superadmin - 01-17-2023, 09:34 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional members MCA and MIC should take on Pakatan Harapan in “friendly contests” at the coming state elections, according to political analyst Wong Chin Huat.

He said the two parties should not remain trapped in any electoral pact between BN and PH, which would make it unlikely that they would be allowed to field candidates in their traditionally-held seats.

“The conventional rule of coalition politics in Malaysia is that the incumbent parties defend their seats. This means that in the PH-run states, MCA and MIC will not be given any seats to contest,” he told FMT.

Politicians slammed for endorsing PLCs’ business deals
Posted by: superadmin - 01-17-2023, 09:30 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Politicians and government ministers have been urged to refrain from publicly endorsing business deals of public-listed companies (PLCs), especially via social media channels.

Such declarations of support for a particular company or product is potentially a conflict of interest, or in extreme circumstances, may be deemed as corruption.

Even more concerning is the presence of unscrupulous groups or individuals who take advantage of such pronouncements to run up the share prices of the PLCs concerned to make a quick “killing”, at the expense of unsuspecting investors.

“Politicians and ministers must be aware of the consequences of their statements on the share price of PLCs and its impact on the fair and orderly trading of the shares,” Minority Shareholders Watch Group (MSWG) CEO Devanesan Evanson told FMT Business.

Healthcare think tank: Malaysia’s health system “on the brink of breakdown”
Posted by: superadmin - 01-16-2023, 12:06 PM - Forum: Health News - No Replies

POLITICIANS must stop behaving as if there will still be doctors and nurses in the health system because of what they do or say.

Instead, they must swiftly stem the brain drain syndrome in the form of outpouring of expertise and manpower from the public healthcare system by presenting a comprehensive plan to address the massive hemorrhage of talent happening today.

“Almost weekly across the country, dozens of young, experienced and senior medical professionals including doctors, nurses and specialists are submitting their resignations from contract and permanent positions,” cautioned Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy founder & CEO Azrul Mohd Khalib.

Khairy can only dethrone UMNO’s Mr President with ample grassroots support
Posted by: superadmin - 01-16-2023, 11:19 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

FORMER health minister Khairy Jamaluddin seems to have the penchant for opening his mouth at the wrong time. There is an adage that even a fish gets into trouble when it opens its mouth and this aptly applies to the former Rembau MP.

Prior to the 15th General Election (GE15), Khairy had boldly declared himself as a prime ministerial candidate. The aftermath of this declaration was disastrous for him especially after his defeat in the contest for the Sungai Buloh parliament seat despite being touted as a favourite.

His PR team could have given him the wrong advice as the premature and rash announcement caused him to be defeated. He had seriously miscalculated his standing among UMNO members and the voters.

Recently, he had stated that he will support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government if he were to be made UMNO president.

Another rash statement that was made to invoke support prior to the UMNO general assembly which had now come and gone. Re-collect that Anwar and Khairy have been embroiled in the court given Khairy was sued by Anwar for defamation.

Khairy seems to have his head in the clouds when assessing his chances of landing the top post in UMNO. He clearly does not command grassroot support in UMNO and the suave and debonair politician might as well kiss his chances goodbye of landing the top post in UMNO forever.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s position as the standing UMNO president remains as solid as the rock of Gibraltar as he has the support of 130 UMNO divisions in the country.
