PETALING JAYA: The head of a hypermarket chain has questioned the government’s plan to import chicken eggs to resolve the shortage in the market, saying it was not the best solution to the problem.

Ameer Ali Mydin said it did not make sense to import eggs considering that Malaysia is a net exporter of the food item.

Posted by: superadmin - 12-08-2022, 07:54 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Pejuang Youth chief Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin says there is a major push from the party grassroots and mid-level leadership for the party to review its membership in Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) following its dismal performance in the 15th general election.

Apart from a review of its membership in GTA, Abu Hafiz said there was also pressure from the grassroots for the party to consider working with a political coalition that shared its aspirations so that it could play a role in the country’s evolving politics post-GE15.

Russia vows to respond to oil price cap, would bear ‘limited’ losses
Posted by: superadmin - 12-07-2022, 02:16 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

As Russia has warned on Monday to respond to a Western price cap on its crude oil - an initiative led by the US and endorsed by the Group of Seven and allies aimed at curbing Russia's income, Chinese experts pointed out that the price cap would bring losses for Russia but the extent will be relatively limited, as Russia has several backup plans.

Ultimately the price would still be paid by Europe, further widening the gap of its own divisions and paralyzing the market principles that the West has built itself on, they noted.

Russia, the world's second biggest producer of crude oil, said on Monday that a Western price cap on its oil would destabilize global energy markets but would not affect its ability to sustain its special military operation in Ukraine.

Coalition pact can’t keep govt from falling, says analyst
Posted by: superadmin - 12-07-2022, 01:30 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Datuk-Seri-Anwar-Ibrahim-Perdana-Menteri...ernama.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: An analyst has poured cold water on the Putrajaya administration’s plan for a coalition agreement among the parties in the unity government.

The pact, due to be signed next week, could not stop the federal government from being toppled, said Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs.

He said people would probably compare it to the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) signed by Pakatan Harapan and Ismail Sabri Yaakob when Ismail was the prime minister.

Oh told FMT he believed the CSA, dubbed a memorandum of understanding between PH and Ismail’s government, would not have held up if challenged in court.

Bickering over Anwar’s cabinet is unfair given situation, say analysts
Posted by: superadmin - 12-07-2022, 11:42 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 05132022_-_Datuk_Seri_Anwar_Ibrahim_dan_...HMAN_3.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Five days have passed since the announcement of the new 28-member cabinet and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s ministerial appointments continue to draw positive and negative reactions.

The prime minister’s decision to hold the finance portfolio and appoint Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as deputy prime minister has triggered debate as the latter is facing corruption charges in court, and some quarters think it is improper for the prime minister to assume the finance minister’s role.

Commenting on this, political analyst Azmi Hassan said it is not fair to question Anwar’s moves given the circumstances of the cabinet’s formation.

“The (prevailing) situation requires Anwar to take into account the support of not only PH (Pakatan Harapan) component parties but also other partners (in the PH-led unity government) even though he has the right to appoint anyone he deems fit,” Azmi said.

No BN-PN alliance because Bersatu cannot be trusted, says Puad
Posted by: superadmin - 12-07-2022, 10:01 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said any form of cooperation between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional is not on the cards as his party does not trust Bersatu.

The Rengit assemblyman said Umno does not trust Bersatu regardless of who was in its top leadership.

“BN-PN cooperation for the purpose of forming a new government is no longer relevant. It’s not something to be considered now, just a waste of time,” he told FMT.

He was asked to comment on a Bersatu leader’s remark that PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin stood in the way of the two parties working together and that a change in Bersatu’s leadership may be the catalyst for PN to reclaim Putrajaya through a new alliance with BN.

KUALA LUMPUR – Several foreign sources have been identified to temporarily alleviate the supply of chicken eggs in Malaysia, said the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

This was announced in a statement today by its minister Mohamad Sabu, who added that his ministry will ensure that the imported eggs are free from diseases and meet the regulatory standards.

“The ministry recognises the necessity of eggs, which are a popular daily source of protein among Malaysians, with an average consumption rate of 968 million eggs per month.
