PETALING JAYA: The establishment of a media council will be given priority by deputy communications and digital minister Teo Nie Ching.

She said this was in line with the aspirations expressed by the minister, Fahmi Fadzil.

Teo said the government would respect press freedom and recognise the important role played by media practitioners in the country.

“We hope to set up a professional media council so that it can regulate the media industry and ensure that there is no politically motivated interference,” Teo told Bernama.

Penang must be careful lest “green wave” can turn into “green tsunami”
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2022, 07:07 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is right to sound the alarm bell that if left unchecked the “green wave” phenomenon that has invaded the northern Malay heartland can result in Pakatan Harapan (PH) losing as many as six to seven seats in the 16th General Election (GE16).

Taking the cue from the recently concluded Padang Serai election, the Penang DAP chairman is very right to assume so – how the tide has swung in favour of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in that a deemed PH stronghold could fall to the rising Bersatu-PAS influence.

PN’s victory in Padang Serai saw the coalition successfully increase the number of parliamentary seats it won in GE15 on Nov 19 to 74 seats nationwide and strengthened its position in Kedah after winning 14 out of 15 parliamentary seats in the state.

“Green tide phenomenon to turn M’sia into a complete Islamic state by GE17?”
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2022, 05:01 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

IS there an irresistible “green tide” phenomenon in Malaysia that will transform the country into a complete Islamic state by 2032 when we go to the polls again for the 17th General Election (GE17)?

Such is the view of some political analysts who see Malaysia inexorably heading in that direction.

However, I am not that pessimistic, although the “green tide” phenomenon in the 15th General Election (GE15) had caught all political parties, analysts and opinion polls by surprise.

I believe that the “green tide” phenomenon in GE15 – which had resulted in PAS emerging as the biggest parliamentary group in Parliament with 49 MPs – stood on sand and is far from being invincible.

This is because the phenomenon came about due to the creation of toxic politics of lies, fear and hate with race and religion thrown into the mix as well as the lowering of the voting age to 18, which had added 1.4  million new voters to the electoral row.

Ramasamy denies corruption claim as chairman of Penang Hindu Endowments Board
Posted by: superadmin - 12-09-2022, 04:52 PM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - No Replies

GEORGE TOWN: Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy denies claims that he was involved in corrupt practices as chairman of the state’s Hindu Endowments Board (HEB).

In a police report lodged on Nov 7, HEB executive director M Ramachandran alleged Ramasamy, a DAP leader, had committed abuse of power and criminal breach of trust in managing the board’s funds since 2018.

Ramasamy said Ramachandran’s report was false and retaliatory in nature as the latter was facing an internal inquiry, which started in October, over claims of a board project awarded directly to his son-in-law as well as other allegations of ethics breaches.

“Given Ramachandran’s long service with the board, we wanted to give him a retirement package. Instead, he has gone and lodged a report making false claims (about me),” Ramasamy told reporters in Komtar.
