  MACC freezes Bersatu accounts
Posted by: superadmin - 02-01-2023, 06:00 PM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - Replies (6)

KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu’s accounts have been frozen for investigations under money laundering laws, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki said.

The anti-graft agency chief commissioner confirmed this to the media, saying the party’s accounts were being probed on suspicion of receiving illegal proceeds.

“Investigations are being done according to the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act,” Azam said.

Azam’s confirmation did not mention the MACC’s ongoing investigations into the RM92.5 billion in economic stimulus funds that were allegedly misappropriated when Bersatu’s chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister.

Muhyiddin also leads the Perikatan Nasional coalition, which ran the government from March 2020 to August 2021.

However, MACC already has investigation papers opened into the RM92.5 billion since December.

Complete US ban on Huawei a 'paranoid, last-ditch' move, set to bite US companies too

Complete US ban on Huawei a 'paranoid, last-ditch' move, set to bite US companies more
[Image: 64858df4-0e7a-4990-8489-8332dfb9802a.jpeg]

The Biden administration has reportedly halted approving licenses for US suppliers to export most items to Chinese tech company Huawei, and is weighing complete ban to cut Huawei off from all American suppliers, a sign that paranoid Washington has taken its relentless assault on the Chinese tech industry a step further and morphed it into a geopolitical battle for supremacy.

Targeting Huawei, a representative of China's rising high-tech industry, is not a new development, as the tech giant was added to the US trade blacklist four years ago. But what is ironic, according to observers, is that after years of "whack-a-mole" restrictions on a raft of Chinese tech firms, the Biden administration had to abruptly jump back to the original target.

The playbook not only lays bare that the US' export controls were futile in undercutting Chinese tech capabilities, but also mirrors Washington's desperation to "up the ante" ahead of the so-called second Summit for Democracy in March, during which it aims to rope in more allies to push for industrial decoupling with China.

The ban, when coming into effect, is estimated to have certain impacts on Huawei's smartphone and laptop businesses, though the Chinese company could substitute American suppliers with other companies such as MediaTek. The controls will strike at US companies more, which are already grappling with sliding revenues and huge layoff pressures, analysts warned.

From Rags To Riches: The True Inspirational Origin Story Of Malaysia’s Ramly Burger
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2023, 08:33 PM - Forum: Inspiring Stories - No Replies

Life isn’t easy and there are days we just feel like giving up. Sometimes we just a need an inspirational story to keep us going. There’s a lot of books, movies and TV series out there where the main character achieved their goal in the end.

While fiction can help, maybe all we need is 1 true story about someone who went from rags to riches to really get us motivated. From being rejected from a loan to start his own business to now exceeding RM1 billion in annual sales, here’s the story about the founder of popular burger brand, Ramly Burger.

Ramly Bin Mokni was born in Tanjung Piandang, Perak and raised in Sekinchan with his 16 siblings. Once he was old enough, he moved to Kuala Lumpur to find a job. How did the idea of owning a burger business come about? It was actually when a customer asked him back in 1978.

When Ramly was working in a supermarket, a customer asked him if there were burger patties made by a bumiputera as it wasn’t very popular back in those days, plus people weren’t very sure if the burger meats were halal. That ignited an idea in Ramly.

He then decided to create his own halal burger meat recipe with his wife, Shala Siah Binti Abdul Manap. Ramly went to apply for a RM7,000 loan at MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) to start his business but sadly he was rejected. Instead, he used his own savings of RM2,000.

Malaysia’s score slips in Transparency International’s corruption index
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2023, 05:43 PM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - No Replies

[Image: 04102020-KUL-perdana_putra_putrajaya_-_pixabay.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia obtained a lower score in the Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2022, garnering 47 out of 100 points, dropping from 48 points the previous year.

The country’s CPI ranking has also improved by an inch, from 62 last year to 61, according to the graft watchdog’s CPI report published today.

For further context, Malaysia scored 51 points in 2020 and 53 points in 2019, showing a downward trend of deteriorating ranking for the last three years.

The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption on a scale of zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

YOURSAY | Arguments aside, can Nurul Izzah do the job?
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2023, 10:04 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (4)

E Kumar: On the contrary, one cannot categorise this particular appointment of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s eldest daughter Nurul Izzah as his senior adviser on economics and finance as nepotism as she gains absolutely nothing from taking up this position. It is akin to when charitable lawyers represent clients for no fees whatsoever. Nurul is being altruistic with her time and effort for Malaysia.

She will be giving up a lot in serving the nation, but she is willing to do it because she loves her country and wants to see her succeed. Of course, given the trials and tribulations her father has been subjected to, she wants to see him succeed in his push for reforms as well. One cannot deny that Nurul is an impressive youth leader and one of Malaysia’s brightest minds.

Her counsel in matters she’s been trained on her whole life will only prove beneficial to the nation. We can debate the fact that Anwar can appoint many other bright minds and experts in the subject of finance and economy, and I’m sure he has more than just Nurul as his adviser but no one in the right mind will be willing to do it for free. We should feel embarrassed that we are using her this way to our benefit.

Lionking: So many comments about all these opposition leaders and almost not even qualified to make comments. So what if PKR vice-president Nurul is appointed as an adviser? At least she is smart and intelligent. Don’t forget that almost all departments are helmed by little napoleons.

The prime minister needs people who can be trusted. What about when PAS and Bersatu were in power, there were more than 70 ministers, and what were they doing? Nothing was moving, and what did Ismail Sabri Yaakob do except parade himself with gaudy exorbitant shirts?

Then we had Abdul Hadi Awang who become a special envoy to the Middle East and that too was considered a ministerial-level appointment. What were his achievements? The Saudis did not welcome him. All that will cost the country millions. What about the billions squandered by the then government?

The prime minister should get the appropriate agencies to apply rule of law on all corruption cases and abuses. Don’t delay and that will keep them quiet. Replace certain heads for better performance We are in safer hands now and even the ringgit has improved. I am for Nurul to work because she is trustworthy and intelligent and is sure she will do a better job than many in the opposition camp.

As rightly said by the prime minister, most of the opposition leaders are not qualified and only harp on religion and race.
