Harry Wing, a native of the remote Belaga district near the Bakun Dam, said politicians in Kuching are obsessed with these claims while the reality on the ground is a different picture. “Those in rural areas don’t have enough cash to last even a few days. Our wooden huts are leaking. “Families from the Penan and other Orang Ulu communities have no jobs and are also not receiving welfare aid from the state government. “All these claims of having the highest this and that are not reflective of the real situation in rural Sarawak,” he told The Vibes. Sarawak’s 2022 revenue of RM11.9 billion was its highest annual earnings ever, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg announced recently – 17% higher than the projected revenue of RM10.2 billion initially. Nevertheless, non-Bumis still hold around 30% of the voters in Malaysia. This is a huge number and their needs must be met. So, what is their view on the Malaysian political spectrum like? Many non-Bumi Malaysians may believe that the political spectrum is dominated by a small set of powerful and entrenched political parties. They may be critical of these parties’ lack of transparency and accountability, leading to them believing that the political process does not genuinely represent the will of the people. They may also be distrustful of conventional political parties’ promises and rhetoric, viewing them as disconnected from the interests and problems of the broader public. Since non-Bumis are the minorities in our country, their trust is built upon actions, more than words. If Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail can't do the job, please resign. All police personnel must understand the Constitution. Anything that deviates from the standard of respecting each and any individual rights is not acceptable. Whatever the differences in opinion, they must be carried with due care and respect for one another as these moral sensitivities has to do with all Malaysians, and will affect each and everyone, including law enforcers, so do it with due care.
