“PN can capture Selangor, N Sembilan if KJ contests under its ticket in state polls”

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) and Bersatu stand a good chance of capturing Selangor and Negri Sembilan if former UMNO man Khairy Jamaluddin contests in the forthcoming state polls under the party’s ticket, said Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

The Bersatu Youth chief, in an interview with Utusan Malaysia, said Khairy’s presence can create a new wave among young voters especially those who remain on the fence to give their votes to PN and thus, wrest both states from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The Machang MP said they were willing to give way to Khairy in any Selangor or Negri Sembilan state seat if the sacked UMNO leader is interested in joining Bersatu.

China rushes to aid Turkey, Syria with rapid assistance

China on Tuesday announced its first batch of 40 million yuan ($5.9 million) of emergency assistance to Turkey, and that it would dispatch rescue teams to help save lives and provide assistance to Syria.

As of press time, the death toll has topped 5,000 and many others remained trapped under debris after the initial 7.8-magnitude earthquake, a 7.5-magnitude tremor and a string of powerful aftershocks jolted parts of Turkey and Syria on Monday and Tuesday. The death toll is likely to increase as thousands of buildings were toppled and cold and snowy weather may shorten the time needed to save lives, media reported.

World leaders have expressed concerns over the deadly earthquakes. "My heart goes out to the people of Turkey and Syria in this hour of tragedy," said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement. "The United Nations is fully committed to supporting the response. Our teams are on the ground assessing the needs and providing assistance."

Unity govt to form three committees to ensure interparty cohesion: Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 02-08-2023, 09:53 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 05132022_-_Datuk_Seri_Anwar_Ibrahim_dan_...HMAN_3.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the unity government will form three committees to ensure cohesion over policies and other cooperative matters between all parties in the government.

Following the secretariat meeting at Umno’s headquarters in Menara Dato Onn this evening, Anwar said the three committees set to be formed focused on strategy, elections, as well as government and political agenda monitoring.

“The terms of the committee formation are to ensure the policies are mutually agreed upon,” he told a press conference.

“Besides the state ministers who have certain tasks and discussions every week, this council will give their views on the main policies of the unity government.

“Secondly, (they will) ensure that all views are taken into consideration when forming policies.”

Anwar explained the strategy committee’s tasks include addressing communication issues following “extremely slanderous statements” faced by the unity government.

Ensuring an inclusive new horizon for higher education – Muhamad Nadhir Abdul Nasir
Posted by: superadmin - 02-08-2023, 09:50 AM - Forum: Educations - No Replies

[Image: 20220604-disabled_wheelchair_OKU-Pixabay_pic.jpg]

RECENTLY, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin put forward eleven focus areas based on the goal of restoring trust in the country’s higher education system.

The Higher Education Ministry must rebuild confidence among the general public, especially among marginalised groups such as the disabled community, in the local higher education system.

We, the disabled community, must be assured that the ministry shall create a higher education system that is inclusive and responsive to the issues, needs and voices of disabled persons.

Disabled persons are also part of the higher learning environment as students and staff in both public and private higher learning institutions.

Though having an efficient and excellent higher education sector is admirable, aspects such as accessibility, equity and inclusivity are also crucial to create a humanised, sustainable and quality higher education environment.

Thus, the ministry through its eleven focus areas must inclusively and meaningfully engage the people, including disabled students and disabled staff.

I eagerly welcome the idea of establishing a National Review Committee.

Post-Umno political revival: where could Khairy land?
Posted by: superadmin - 02-07-2023, 10:44 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20230207_-_Khairy_Jamaluddin_at_military...TIF_05.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – “Never let a good crisis go to waste,” said the late British prime minister Winston Churchill as countries globally looked to rebuild following the end of World War II in the 1940s.

In today’s local political context, the famous quote rings particularly true to the ongoing internal crisis in Umno following the purging of several high-profile names, the most prominent being former party youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

For the largest Malay party in the country, the axing provides the opportunity for internal re-consolidation and rebuilding. For Khairy, it offers him the chance to reassess his political career and plot his next move.

The latter is particularly crucial for someone as politically ambitious as the ex-Rembau MP: Khairy has made no secret of his desire to lead the country as prime minister some day, even after his dismissal from Umno.

Sad Mahathir says Langkawi constituents failed him
Posted by: superadmin - 02-06-2023, 09:48 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

FORMER Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reportedly still holds bitterness over losing his election deposit in the Langkawi constituency during the last general election.

Mahathir was left with feelings of frustration and sorrow after being defeated by voters in the 15th General Election (GE15) last November.

He expressed his discouragement following his unsuccessful attempt to retain the Langkawi parliamentary seat he won during GE15, which resulted in the forfeiture of his election deposit.

Mahathir was outspoken in his belief that the voters in Langkawi disregarded his past efforts as prime minister during the 1980s and 1990s, during which he developed the island.
