Freelance preacher apologises to Hindus for equating Thaipusam to “devil worship”
Posted by: superadmin - 02-13-2023, 08:57 AM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - No Replies

FORCED to bite the bullet following his blunt remark over the participation of Malay Muslims in the recent Thaipusam procession, freelance preacher Mohamad Wadi Annuar Ayub has issued an official apology yesterday (Feb 12).

In his official apology statement, the Kedah-born preacher lamented his action for uttering the phrase “worshipping devil” which stemmed from an oversight to describe the Thaipusam celebration during a talk at the Al-Azim state mosque in Melaka on Feb 10.

“With that I apologise to all Hindus in the Indian community for my statement, and I wish to clarify that I have no intention to insult or offend any disciple of other religions,” his official apology statement read.

Unity gov’t must recalibrate racial diversity in Malaysia’s civil service
Posted by: superadmin - 02-12-2023, 10:55 AM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - Replies (5)

THE Malaysian civil service is not only bloated in terms of the number of employed but consists of one ethnic group, predominantly the Malays.

This is the reason why the Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg asked the civil service to be opened up for the non-Bumiputera in Sabah and Sarawak, especially the Chinese.

Spokesperson of the G25 group, Datuk Noor Faridah Mohd Ariffin, has made a similar call asking the civil service to be opened up for the non-Bumiputera, particularly the non-Malays in the country.

She lamented that not only is the promotional prospect for the non-Malays is dim, but the presence of racial discrimination also prevents them from joining the civil service.

After more than 60 years of independence, the country’s civil service is predominantly composed of the Malay Bumiputera from the peninsula with minuscule participation of non-Malay Bumiputera and non-Malays, the Chinese and the Indians.

Hadi: Unity gov’t unable to uphold Islamic values as majority of its MPs are non-Muslims
[Image: Hadi-Main-pic.jpg]

PAS PRESIDENT Tan Sri Hadi Awang has claimed that the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led coalition government faces the problem of upholding Islamic jurisprudence given the dominance of non-Muslim parliamentarian in its set-up.

Based on the jurisprudence of dominance, the party that leads the government should be the party that has the most seats and represents the majority of Malaysians, according to the Marang MP.

To recap, PAS won the most number of seats in the 15th General Election (GE15) with 49 while DAP came in second with 40.

“By right, the unity government that was established should be led by Perikatan Nasional (PN) not PH,” Hadi justified. “This is because PN is dominated by Muslims with 74 seats belonging to PN (Bersatu contributed 25) while only two seats went to non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera.”

He said this while presenting the paper Fiqh Al Nasri Wa Al Tamkin (Between Domination and Power Sharing) at the Zulkifli Muhammad Islamic University College (KUIZM) in Gombak (Selangor) yesterday (Feb 11).

“This is different from PH given 51 out of its 82 seats are held by non-Muslims while Muslims only occupy 31 seats, So, how are Muslim parliamentarians going to lead the government if most of them are non-Muslims?” he asked. – Feb 12, 2023

How the Singapore Dream is inextricably linked to its HDB policies
Posted by: superadmin - 02-12-2023, 10:08 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

SINGAPORE – Housing in the land-scarce island republic is a hot button issue among its citizens as prices continue to skyrocket despite government intervention.

And mixed reactions were drawn in Malaysia when Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming revealed that there would be a knowledge-sharing session with experts from Singapore on affordable housing management.

This garnered some backlash from opposition party PAS, which alleged that Malays are being priced out of their hometowns.

Singapore’s ethnic integration policy in its public housing was once labelled as “the most intrusive social policy” in the republic, but the government has repeatedly defended it as an integral part of nurturing racial harmony.

National Development Minister Desmond Lee recently told a group of Malaysian journalists that the Housing and Development Board (HDB) goes beyond simple homeownership to shaping social policy, social aspirations and goals.

KUALA LUMPUR – Students in the country are free to express their views including criticising the government, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said this was to ensure that the group acquired critical thinking skills, in addition to creating a better learning atmosphere.

Anwar said he had conveyed the matter to Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

“They have also opened up the space and opportunity, especially the Ministry of Higher Education, so that the university is more conducive in terms of allowing points of view to be expressed, with the exception of things that are insulting, racist in nature, or extreme religious beliefs.

“Apart from that, they are given the freedom to criticise the prime minister, the government,” he told reporters after attending the ceremony to hand over contributions to the AbuSulayman International Student Fund (AISF) at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (UIAM) here today. – Bernama, February 11, 2023

Govt firmly against power abuse, corruption: Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 02-11-2023, 04:54 PM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Despite being viewed with cynicism, the unity government remains firm in its stance against abuse of power and corrupt practices, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Citing the government’s decision to stop the practice of hiring foreign workers using agents as an example, he said despite objections from a few stakeholders, measures to ensure that the workers involved are not abused will still continue.

He said the high cost imposed by agents affects the entry of foreign workers, when the country needs them in certain sectors, such as plantations and the food industry, including restaurants.

“We know that there are parties making high profits by imposing excessive additional costs, and by right, we should be seen as putting efforts to defend workers' rights and prevent any form of oppression, whether they are local workers or foreign workers.
