Smartphone app or physical road tax sticker, motorists must be allowed to choose
Posted by: superadmin - 02-15-2023, 08:39 AM - Forum: Local News - No Replies

FURTHER to objections raised by retirees and senior citizens over use of the MyJPJ app versus the use of the current physical road tax sticker and physical driver’s license plastic card in your article “Retiree: Elderly M’sians to face challenges in adoption of MyJPJ app” dated Feb 12, 2023, I would like to add that motorists and vehicle owners should be given the choice to use the MyJPJ smartphone app or the physical motor vehicle license windscreen sticker and their physical driver’s license, whichever they are more comfortable with.

While I am a senior citizen who will be 69 years of age in three months’ time, I am, however, also an electronics engineer who installed and maintained computer and communications equipment from 1982 till 1992.

I have also been writing about computers, communications and information technology since 1994 until today and have continued to work with computers, smartphones and communications equipment and have conducted many product reviews of PCs, mobile phones and smartphones.

PM’s Questions a boon for transparency, accountability: observers
Posted by: superadmin - 02-15-2023, 07:35 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20230214-anwar_ibrahim_PMQs_prime_minist...o_dept.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – The government is taking positive steps towards better accountability and transparency by establishing a new convention for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to regularly answer three queries during Prime Minister’s Questions and Answers (PMQs), say observers.

During PMQs, parliamentarians will be able to hear directly from the prime minister for an hour every Tuesday at the first meeting of the second session of the 15th Parliament, Anwar said yesterday morning.

However, the standard Minister’s Question Time for cabinet members will be held every Thursday.

Ong Ooi Heng, a parliamentary affairs researcher, said the newly introduced convention shows that the government has the political will to implement parliamentary reforms, including better accountability on the part of the prime minister who will directly answer questions regarding his administration’s policies or decisions.

Now the whole world can see: Rafizi schools Hamzah on economic growth
Posted by: superadmin - 02-14-2023, 04:29 PM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli gave Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (Larut-PN) a lecture on economic growth in the Dewan Rakyat today, claiming that the opposition leader lacks knowledge on the matter.

This is after the Perikatan Nasional secretary-general questioned the accuracy of figures provided by Rafizi.

“I am thankful because now the whole country and the world can see that the opposition leader doesn’t understand the concept of economic growth,” he said, drawing laughter from the House.

Earlier, Rafizi was explaining the decision behind the setting up of the National Economic Action Council, which he noted will assist the government in planning, implementing and monitoring the economy.

For this purpose, the minister said the council will act as the government’s principal economic adviser, with a focus on coordinating decisions across the various ministries and agencies to resolve structural economic issues.

MACC takes statement from 84-year-old ex-minister in Pandora Paper scandal
Posted by: superadmin - 02-14-2023, 02:17 PM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - No Replies

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has hauled up a former minister for questioning concerning the Pandora Papers scandal. The 84-year-old ex-minister was asked to explain the money flow of 12 offshore companies owned by him and his family. The MACC may call the latter again for clarification.

A son of a former prime minister will also be called by the MACC soon with more people also expected to be probed in relation to the Pandora Papers.

A source told The Star that investigators are looking at many angles, but the probe is still at an early stage. Thus far, no accounts have been frozen yet although if necessary, the MACC will seek for accounts to be frozen.

In this regard, the anonymous source contended that the MACC will be focusing its investigation on whether the assets and investments that the minister and his family are involved in abroad stem from government projects.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has bid a poignant farewell to MPs while urging them to set aside political manoeuvring for the sake of the people’s welfare.

His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah also called on politicians to capitalise on Malaysia’s plural and diverse nature.

“As my final advice to MPs, do not act while waiting for praise. Instead, serve wholeheartedly as a representative of the people while prioritising citizens and the country’s future.

“Put aside narrow political agendas and stand together in the name of unity. The shaping of a new glorious Malaysian era should come from the bond of unity between MPs,” he said during his final speech to officiate the opening of the second session of the 15th Parliament today.

Breaking from convention, the ruler was accompanied by his wife Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who sat by his side in the hall’s dais throughout his speech.

Al-Sultan Abdullah, who was sworn-in to the post on January 31, 2019 and will end his tenure as the nation’s 16th Agong on January 30 next year, also expressed his concern over the nation’s developments being sacrificed for the sake of political expediency.

[Image: 01_-_09112022_-_Konsert_Santai_bersama_A...ar_17.jpeg]

NOVEMBER 24, 2022 will always remain etched as a historical day for all Malaysians.

It saw the end of the Perikatan Nasional government.

It was also the date that marked the people’s liberation from the preceding backdoor, illegitimate government with the establishment of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Lest we easily forget, Anwar struggled against all odds for almost three decades to finally be anointed as the people's choice – the 10th prime minister of Malaysia and at the age of 74.

Anwar throughout the 15th general election (GE15) campaign period constantly vowed to eradicate corruption which he claimed to have reached pandemic levels.

He vowed to curtail the various and systemic abuses of power especially by the political elites, and to institutionalise good governance in the public sector.

These last seventy over days since his leadership at the helm, Malaysians have been witnessing exposes of massive fraud, abuses of power of various degrees and corrupt dealings of monumental propositions.

'Escalation unavoidable' if Russia's call for talks on Ukraine ignored by US
Posted by: superadmin - 02-13-2023, 09:19 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Before the one-year anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict's outbreak, Moscow sent a message for talks based on the "existing reality" and without "preconditions," while US President Joe Biden is also scheduled to visit Poland to show Washington's unwavering support for Kiev to continue the fight.

Chinese analysts believed that hopes for peace are low, and if Moscow's call for talks is ignored, the conflict will undoubtedly escalate.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said in an interview with Zvezda television that "Yes, according to the classics, any hostilities end up in talks, and, naturally, as we have said before, we will be ready for such talks, but only if those are talks with no preconditions, talks that would be based on the existing reality," TASS reported on Saturday.

However, it is not Kiev, but Washington and Brussels who make the decision on talks with Moscow, Vershinin said.
