“An insult to restaurant owners”: PAS MP flayed by netizens over cancer, autism remark
A PAS lawmaker continues to draw ire online for claiming that “low-quality” food could expose people to various medical conditions, including cancer and autism.
While debating the royal address in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Feb 14), Dr Halimah Ali said while she is supportive of the Menu Rahmah concept and its mission to provide affordable meals to the B40 group, she did not want low-quality food to threaten the health and safety of the public.
“As much as I support the Menu Rahmah movement, I do not want the B40 group to be exposed to diseases like cancer, autoimmune diseases, or autism,” she said in a video of her speech that went viral on social media.
The Kapar MP had since told reporters that her remarks had been misunderstood, pointing out that the message she had wanted to convey was that the poor quality of raw materials used by restaurants for Menu Rahmah could lead to the meal’s quality being compromised.

China has achieved a major and decisive victory in its COVID-19 prevention and control since November 2022, and created a miracle of a populous country in the history of human civilization to successfully walk out of the pandemic, and the country's COVID policy adjustment and optimization helped achieve a stable transition and keep the overall death rate at the lowest level worldwide, Chinese top leadership said on Thursday.

Faulty ventilators: Yii says proper documentation still needed despite emergency procurement
KUALA LUMPUR – “Emergency procurements” by the government, such as ventilators during the Covid-19 pandemic, should still require proper documentation, more so when they involve vast amounts of public funds, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said.
Responding to the findings in the Auditor-General’s Report 2021 on the Health Ministry, Yii said not only did the fiasco cost the country RM13.07 million but also jeopardised the quality of healthcare during the pandemic.
“Action has to be taken and the ones responsible must be held accountable,” the DAP lawmaker said in a statement today.
“It begs the question that even though it is an ‘emergency procurement’, why weren’t proper documents prepared and signed, especially when it involves millions of ringgit of public funds?
“Wouldn’t that have given better legal protection for the Health Ministry and the different parties that are involved against liability or incidents such as this?” Yii said.

KUALA LUMPUR – Fitch Ratings’ “BBB+” affirmation on Malaysia’s sovereign credit rating with a stable outlook for 2023 reflects its confidence in the current government’s administration, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a statement today, Anwar said the affirmation also showed the international rating agency’s confidence in the strength of Malaysia’s economic recovery as well as the country’s resilience amidst an uncertain and highly challenging global landscape.
“Malaysia’s ratings balance a diversified economy with strong medium-term growth prospects against high public debt, a low revenue base relative to the operating expenditures,” said Anwar, citing Fitch’s statement released yesterday.
According to Fitch, Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to moderate to 4% in 2023 and 4.8% in 2024, from 8.7% in 2022 amid the easing of Covid-19 restrictions and the government’s continuous efforts to support the economy’s rapid and broad recovery.
