Nearly 4 in 10 Singapore CEOs believe their companies not viable

Nearly four in 10 Singapore CEOs believe their companies not viable if they continue on current path: PwC survey

Nearly 40% of CEOs surveyed in Singapore and globally believe their companies will not be economically viable in the next decade if they continue on their current path, according to Pricewaterhouse Cooper’s (PwC) 26th Annual Global CEO Survey.

PwC says this “stark datapoint” underscores a dual imperative facing CEOs today — the need to manage short-term external risks to drive profitability in order to survive, while simultaneously transforming their business to thrive in the longer term.

Over October and November last year, PwC surveyed 4,410 CEOs, of which 36 are based in Singapore, with interviews conducted across the global regions of North America, Western Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Marcus Lam, executive chairman of PwC Singapore says: “Business leaders in Singapore increasingly need to balance dealing with near-term threats and rising costs, and the pressing need to reinvent their businesses to stay relevant and viable. CEOs that are ready to embrace and drive change would be best positioned to help their companies survive and even thrive.”

US intelligence report risks pushing ties to the edge of a cold war mode
Posted by: superadmin - 03-10-2023, 04:24 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Top intelligence leaders of the US said on Wednesday that China remained the "most consequential threat" to its national security, in another attempt to hype the "China threat" narrative that has worsened bilateral ties in many ways in the past year. As the narrative increasingly becomes one without a bottom line, experts warned that the US will pay a heavy price for mending ties.

Testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of the panel's annual hearing, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said the Communist Party of China (CPC) "represents both the leading and most consequential threat to US national security and leadership globally, and its intelligence-specific ambitions and capabilities make it for us our most serious and consequential intelligence rival."

The hearing also covered the annual threat assessment report, a major yearly public release by US intelligence agencies on a variety of issues that they regard as "national security challenges."

Big Grin “Abah wave” to be bigger than reformasi movement 25 years ago, claims PAS
Posted by: superadmin - 03-10-2023, 04:13 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Haji Takiyuddin Hassan has predicted that the wave of people who opposed the “cruelty” committed against Perikatan Nasional (PN) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be significantly bigger than the “reformasi” movement 25 years ago.

Dubbed the “Abah wave”, the Kota Bahru MP said the charges against Muhyiddin will incur the rakyat’s wrath which will be seen in the upcoming state elections in six states.

“I think the prosecution of Muhyiddin today will increase the people’s support for PN because they know what’s happening.

“And this will show in the upcoming state elections. If there are parties who used ‘reformasi’ to gather support, this is bigger than that – that much I can say. We will stand by Muhyiddin,” Takiyuddin was reported as saying to reporters at the Kuala Lumpur court complex.

Give Anwar a break: 100 days aren’t enough for PM to execute proper reform
Posted by: superadmin - 03-10-2023, 03:20 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Anwar-Ibrahim-mou-bernama-161220221.jpg]

A WEEK after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was installed as the country’s 10th Prime Minister, he officially announced his cabinet of 28 ministers hailing from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in a “unity government” on Dec 2 last year.

Today, this government has already clocked 100 days old. Demanding an impeccable track record within 100 days is unreasonable.

However, if the Anwar administration is able to move in the right direction, his cabinet remains united, persistent in its effort to fight corruption and the civil servants perform their duties efficiently, we can truly look forward to a brand new Malaysia over the next five years.

Let’s take a look at what the unity government has done over the past three months.

  1. To firm up his hold on power, Anwar had to go against the will of majority of Malaysians by naming UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who still has dozens of court cases awaiting him to be one of his two deputies.

Anwar must have weighed the pros and cons and was well aware that if he did not compromise, he would lose the chance of leading the nation. He had to make what was perceived as “essential” decision.

On Feb 21, Anwar defended Zahid’s appointment in the Parliament by saying that even with the court cases still pending, Zahid did not have to resign before he was convicted, adding that he had faithfully been sticking to the unity government’s principle of governance.

“The unity gov’t passed its 100 Days test with flying colours

“The unity gov’t passed its 100 Days test with flying colours but Perikatan failed dismally”

WHETHER calculated from when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was appointed Prime Minister (PM) on Nov 24, 2022 or when his unity Cabinet was formed on Dec 3 last year, Anwar had passed the “100 Days” test while the Perikatan Nasional (PN) had failed the “100 Days” test.

To retired DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, the Anwar unity government had passed four crucial tests in its 100 Days, namely (i) the convening of the 15th Parliament; (ii) the vote of confidence in Anwar as the 10th PM; (iii) the passage of the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address; and yesterday, (iv) the second reading of the revised Budget 2023.

“The hopes that had boosted Malaysians in the first 100 Days had not faded, and it remains the hope of many that the Anwar unity government can deliver to reset and return Malaysia to its original nation-building principles,” observed Kit Siang in his latest blog. “While the Anwar unity government had passed the first 100 Days test, PN had failed dismally.”

Sanusi reminded to mind his language lest he risks offending the Agong
Posted by: superadmin - 03-09-2023, 06:08 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has offered some words of wisdom to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to be careful with his speech which has indirectly disputed the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) as the custodian of states without a king.

In fact, the Penang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) which convened on Tuesday (March 7) had unanimously supported a motion without notification pertaining to Sanusi’s extremist speech that cast doubt about the sovereignty of Penang.

As such, Chow warned the Kedah PAS Deputy Commissioner I to be careful given the statement he had issued could lead him to an offence under the Sedition Act because he had indirectly disputed the position of the YDPA. He also gave Sanusi a lesson in history.

“The Kedah Menteri Besar has acted inappropriately by relying solely on the book Kedah 1771-1821: The Search for Security and Independence authored by R. Bonney as evidence involving the dispute,” explained Chow who is also the DAP’s Penang state chairman.

US urged to stop ‘saying one thing and doing another’ and fulfill Biden’s promise

US urged to stop ‘saying one thing and doing another’ and fulfill Biden’s promise as McCarthy confirms plan to meet Tsai
[Image: 1ce373c5-bfa6-41d2-a3fe-fe42c5de02f0.jpeg]

After Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang urged the US to drop its all-round suppression and containment of China and reiterated China's untouchable redlines regarding the Taiwan question, the US responded with hypocritical rhetoric, but is yet to stop hollowing out the one-China principle, a hypocritical move which may bring more turmoil to China-US relations.

US media outlets recently disclosed that US House speaker Kevin McCarthy will meet with Taiwan regional leader Tsai Ing-wen in the US. On Tuesday, McCarthy confirmed his plans to meet with Tsai in the US.

Ironically, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said Tuesday that the US "respected the one-China policy" and did not want to see a change to the "status quo" of the Taiwan Straits, Reuters reported. Analysts said that McCarthy's provocative actions have made Kirby's words suspicious and brought more concerns to the strained China-US relations.

Muhyiddin probe: if all cases political, can’t we arrest anyone? asks Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 03-09-2023, 03:47 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20230126_-Anwar_Ibrahim_at_prof_Osman_Ba...IF_007.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has responded to critics accusing the investigation into Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was politically motivated, questioning if all cases of corruption should then be ignored.

Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, stressed that the ongoing probe against the Bersatu president is being done independently by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and that he has no knowledge of the updates of the investigation.

“To say all cases are motivated by politics, does that mean we can’t arrest (anyone)? All the big corruption cases should be dropped?” he asked.

Anwar also urged critics to look at the facts of each cases before making their own conclusions.

“I don’t meddle (in cases). I inform all government agencies to look at the cases. Whether you agree or not – look at the case. What are the accusations and charge?”
