THE longevity of the present unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim seems to be the focus of most Malaysians.
It is argued that if the government fails to sustain or even increase Malay support, the chances of its survival might be in question.
In the 15th General Election (GE15), Pakatan Harapan (PH) might have obtained an average of more than 20% of Malay support.
Recent polls do not give much confidence to the unity government, both random and non-random. Opinion polls are important indicators of political trends, but there is a discernible gap between what is projected and what is reality.
At best, these polls are more like mere guides than anything else.
The last GE15 was in November 2022, state elections might be held in June 2023. Much water might have flowed under the bridge during the intervening period.
The green wave might have catapulted Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) success in the last GE15 with more than 50% of Malay support. Whether this record can be sustained in the state elections in seven months remains to be seen.

TWICE former prime minister (PM) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammed abandoned Pejuang – the party he formed alongside 12 other members – to join Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) in his quest to spearhead the struggle for Malay political and economic rights.
He said that Malays might be the natives of the country but lost their economic and political rights to “foreigners” which means the non-Malays.
He went on to say that before he dies, his only priority to rectify the economic and political imbalance of the Malays.
It was in this regard that he was concerned that the new electoral delimitation exercise might not work in the favour of the Malays.

The defining feature of our world is life. For all we know, Earth is the only planet with life on it. Despite our age of environmental destruction, there’s life in every corner of the globe, under its water, nestled in the most extreme environments we can imagine.
But why? How did life start on Earth? What was the series of events that led to birds, bugs, amoebas, you, and me?
That’s the subject of Origins, a three-episode series from Unexplainable — Vox’s podcast that explores big mysteries, unanswered questions, and all the things we learn by diving into the unknown.

SHANGHAI (March 5): China's science and technology policies should aim to build the country's strength and self-reliance, while companies take the lead in pushing innovation, Premier Li Keqiang said on Sunday.
The country effectively countered external attempts to suppress and contain China’s development over the past five years by promoting development of the real economy through innovation and fostering new drivers of growth, he said.
"Scientific and technological policies should aim at building up our country’s strength and self-reliance in science and technology," the outgoing premier said in his work report to the opening of the annual meeting of China's parliament.
