Has Hadi inspired Terengganu’s religious authorities to ban sermons by politicians at state mosques?
SOMEHOW in conjunction with anniversary of the installation of Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin today, Terengganu’s Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) has banned politicians from delivering religious lectures or ceramahs in mosques and suraus state-wide.
In a statement yesterday (March 3), MAIDAM said Sultan Mizan was upset that some politicians had given religious lectures or classes or even led Friday prayers without the council’s approval.
“All state assemblymen, MPs, and senators are not allowed to deliver any religious ceramahs, lectures or teachings in mosques and suraus in Terengganu,” MAIDAM pointed out. “All state assemblymen, MPs, and senators are also not allowed to lead Friday prayers in mosques.”
With such ruling coming into effect, yesterday (March 3) could be the very last time PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang delivered a Friday sermon at the Rusila Mosque in his Marang parliamentary constituency – often to an almost ‘sell-out crowd’.

ISLAMABAD: Industrial and Commercial Bank of China on Friday approved a rollover of a US$1.3 billion loan for cash-strapped Pakistan, which will help shore up its depleting foreign exchange reserves, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said.
The facility will be disbursed in three instalments. The first one of US$500 million has been received by Pakistan’s central bank, Dar said in a tweet.
“It will increase forex reserves,” he said.
The money, which Dar said has been repaid by Pakistan to the ICBC in recent months, is crucial for the South Asian economy, which is facing a balance of payment crisis, with its central bank foreign exchange reserves dropping to levels barely able to cover three weeks of imports.
Pakistan has already received a US$700 million loan from China to help boost its forex reserves.

Money First, Cronies Second, Malay & Islam Last – PN Willingly Offers Prime Minister Post To Sarawak For Power
He could say and do anything he likes, including insulting and belittling all the nine Malay Rulers. And he certainly could instigate social unrest with seditious statements to the point of starting bloody racial riots. Abdul Hadi Awang realizes he is untouchable because all the sultans – even the ruling government – are too pussy to take action against him as he’s the president of PAS Islamist party.
When two students went ballistic over history paper questions in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (equivalent to O-Levels) examination, using vulgar words to criticize those who had set the questions and also insulted Singapore, they were quickly arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police. But where was the police when Mr Hadi boldly insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King)?
After testing the water, the religious extremist Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) believes they are unstoppable. The monarchs are too afraid that PAS would overthrow them like the Iranian Revolution whilst Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is too terrified of the backlash from Malay-Muslim voters if the leaders of the Islamist party are investigated, charged or imprisoned.

PETALING JAYA: An analyst has dismissed the possibility of Pejuang making any difference to Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) political strength if it joins the coalition.
Speaking to FMT, Council of Professors fellow Jeniri Amir said Pejuang did not have enough members and was too starved of impressive leaders to benefit PN.
“In terms of leadership, there is nothing it can be proud of,” he said. “With Mukhriz Mahathir leading the party, it doesn’t have any wow factor.
“You can see what happened in the last general election (GE15). Pejuang did not only lose in every seat it contested, but all its candidates also lost their deposit.”
In GE15, Pejuang vied for 115 parliamentary and 43 state seats but none of its candidates made an impact with voters.

Survey may be flawed, but Umno shouldn’t ignore sentiment, say academics |

PETALING JAYA: Two academics have told Umno to take heed of a survey finding that 71% of Malays are dissatisfied with the government although one of them criticised the study as flawed.
Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara and Azmil Tayeb of Universiti Sains Malaysia said the result reflected poorly on Umno as the largest Malay party in the government.
Azmi told FMT the methodology employed for the 35,000-respondent survey was faulty and the public should not read too much into the result, but he said it was still a valid reminder to Umno that its days of being considered the defender of Malays were long gone with PAS having taken over that role.
“Umno has to do something about this if it is to regain the confidence of Malay voters, and it all depends on this month’s Umno elections,” he said.
He said Umno could reinstill confidence in Malay voters if all the important posts in the party were filled by people who did not come from factions opposed to and supportive of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
