  “Are vernacular schools less nationalistic?”
Posted by: superadmin - 03-13-2023, 04:07 PM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - No Replies

VERNACULAR schools in the country, such as Mandarin and Tamil schools, are part and parcel of the educational system. This was something inherited from the colonial and immediate post-colonial periods.

The recent constitutional challenge to the existence of the vernacular schools fizzled out. The court decided that the vernacular schools are as constitutional as the national schools.

However, this judicial decision has not persuaded the detractors from saying that non-Malays who send their children to vernacular schools are not nationalistic enough.

A former prime minister went to the extreme extent of calling the non-Malays “foreigners”. It is argued that the non-Malays, by sending their children to vernacular schools, want to maintain and perpetuate their own ethnic and provincial identities.

Not all non-Malays send their children to vernacular schools, the majority maybe. There is a higher percentage of Chinese sending their children to Mandarin schools than Indians.

Selangor sultan again warns lawmakers not to politicise mosques, surau
Posted by: superadmin - 03-13-2023, 03:52 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has again cautioned against lawmakers using mosques and surau in the state as political platforms to spread party propaganda.

In his royal address during the opening of the Selangor assembly today, the ruler reiterated his decree that state religious authorities will ensure only those who are accredited and vetted are allowed to preach in houses of worship.

Similarly, he also decreed for state authorities to ensure that religious premises are free from political influence.

“Mosques and surau should not be the source that divides the unity and harmony of Muslims on the grounds of political ideologies and never-ending political retribution.

“This however occurs when there are preachers who take advantage during their speeches to chide, insult and even slander certain people on the basis of differing political ideologies.

“I am concerned that such culture, if not contained, will affect the unity among Muslims, especially the Malays.”

S’gor, Negri will get Bersatu MB if Perikatan wins: Muhyiddin
Posted by: superadmin - 03-13-2023, 07:44 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has reached a consensus to appoint a menteri besar from Bersatu should the coalition wrest power of Selangor and Negri Sembilan in the coming state elections.

This is according to Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who said the decision was made following recent negotiations with component parties within PN.

“Don’t ask me who will be the menteri besar (in Selangor and Negri Sembilan), but it has been agreed (that they will be from Bersatu),” he said in his winding-up speech at Bersatu’s annual general assembly, here, this evening.

The two states are currently under Pakatan Harapan’s rule, with both menteri besar from PKR – Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari in Selangor and Aminuddin Harun in Negri Sembilan.

Hadi’s remarks on govt takeover misunderstood, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Remarks by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang about an impending government collapse were misconstrued as a call for a revolution, Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

He said there were no plans for a revolution to change the government, and gave the assurance that the coalition would never do anything that was against the Federal Constitution.

Muhyiddin said Hadi’s prediction that the government would collapse by itself was misunderstood.

“(Some misconstrued the remarks) as though meaning a revolution will be held. No such thing. This is a democracy and we will defend our democratic system,” said Muhyiddin in his closing speech at Bersatu’s annual general assembly.

Saudi Aramco reports 46% jump in profits for 2022
Posted by: superadmin - 03-12-2023, 05:30 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

RIYADH: Saudi Aramco reported today that profits jumped 46% last year, highlighting how a surge in oil prices after Russia invaded Ukraine spurred growth in the world’s biggest crude exporter.

The mostly state-owned energy giant, the world’s second most valuable company behind Apple, said in a filing with the Saudi stock market that net income for 2022 was US$161.07 billion, up from US$110 billion in 2021.

The increase was “predominantly due to the impact of higher crude oil prices and volumes sold, and stronger refining margins”, it said.

Aramco’s results are consistent with record profits for 2022 reported by the five oil majors – Shell, Chevron, ExxonMobil, BP and TotalEnergies – which surpassed US$150 billion and would have been closer to US$200 billion without costly withdrawals from Russia.

Azmin Ali: Ungrateful Anwar is now biting the hands that once fed him
[Image: Azmin-Anwar.jpg]

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim once sought the support of PAS to save him but today he has become power-crazy and forgotten who his former ally is after becoming Prime Minister, so claimed ‘turncoat’ Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who was sacked by PKR at the height of the Sheraton Move conspiracy that eventually brought down the 22-month-old Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in February 2020.

Azmin who is now Bersatu’s election director said the “episodes of cruelty” that Anwar went through in the past – and which PAS fought against vigorously then on Anwar’s behalf – are now repeating themselves with Perikatan Nasional (PN) at the receiving hand.

“It was in this hall that we gathered for so long to save a human being who was oppressed at that time, but today when given a little power, this human being has become power-crazy and forgotten his origin (lupa daratan),”, the former Gombak MP shared his memories at the PAS base in Taman Melewar, Kuala Lumpur last night (March 11).

Also present at the so-called “premier solidarity talk” were PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang and Bersatu president and PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
