PETALING JAYA: A group of former aides to ministers and their deputies in Pakatan Harapan (PH) have lodged a police report for alleged defamation against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over an article in the party’s newsletter.
Their spokesman, Nor Miswary Ramli, the political secretary to Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, said they lodged the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters claiming Hadi had defamed PH in the article published in Harakah yesterday.
He said the essence of what Hadi wrote could drive fear into Malaysians and disrupt harmony in our multiracial society, adding that it will also cause hatred towards PH.
“As a president of a political party in Malaysia, his article could also influence his followers and party members to disrupt religious harmony as well.
“The article was published with the intention of creating hatred among the people towards PH and also make Muslims in the country more angry,” he said.

China repeats warning to citizens to leave Afghanistan days after welcoming Taliban for talks
- The foreign ministry tells Chinese nationals to leave as soon as possible citing the deteriorating security situation
- China and the Taliban have been working to strengthen ties, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcoming the group’s co-founder this week
A notice published on the official WeChat account of the department of consular affairs urged Chinese citizens to evacuate as soon as possible, adding that they have to bear the responsibility on their own if they do not.
“Currently, the security situation in Afghanistan has further deteriorated … If Chinese citizens insist on staying in Afghanistan, they will face extremely high security risks, and all the consequences will be borne by themselves,” the notice said.
This was the second warning issued this month. On July 7, the department told Chinese citizens to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible and said it would provide the necessary assistance.

CDC shares 'pivotal discovery' on Covid-19 breakthrough infections that led to new mask guidance
(CNN)A new study shows the Delta Covid-19 variant produced similar amounts of virus in vaccinated and unvaccinated people if they get infected -- illustrating a key motivation behind the federal guidance that now recommends most fully vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors.
Experts say that vaccination makes it less likely that you'll catch Covid-19 in the first place -- but for those who do, this data suggests they could have a similar tendency to spread it as unvaccinated folks.
"High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with Delta can transmit the virus," Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a statement Friday.

PETALING JAYA: An academic has alleged that PAS has changed from being an idealist party to an opportunist one since coming to power and is thereby risking a loss of support.
Speaking to FMT, Mohd Azizuddin Sani of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) said he believed PAS leaders would support whomever they felt would remain in power and would now continue supporting Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin even if the fiasco over the repeal of emergency ordinances was causing restiveness in the party’s grassroots.
“PAS is also likely to support Bersatu until the party can no longer serve its purpose of allowing it to be in power,” he said. “If Umno becomes stronger, PAS is likely to switch support to it instead.”
He also said MPs from PAS could lose voter support because it was likely that many grassroots members were appalled that their leaders had gone against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

PETALING JAYA: The Dewan Rakyat descended into chaos today after a PAS MP claimed Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had the majority to lead the government.
Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PAS-Sik) made the claim while debating the national vaccination programme.
“I want to correct (everyone and say) that YB Pagoh has the majority to lead the country,” he said referring to a statement made by Ong Kian Ming (PH-Bangi) that no one has the majority at the moment.
However, this caused a stir among the opposition MPs who asked for proof.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) immediately stood up asking for a vote to be held.

COMMENT | PM statement a futile exercise to defend PN govt |

COMMENT | The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in issuing the statement dated July 29 to rebut the palace’s statement issued earlier in the day, was a futile exercise to defend the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government and was gross misconduct in a most appalling and contemptuous manner.
First, the PMO’s statement in seeking to justify the wrongful actions by providing a purported chronology, suggests that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong misrepresented the facts in the palace statement. This is an affront to the royal institution and to the Agong himself.
Second, the PMO’s statement itself was misleading because it failed to admit that Takiyuddin Hassan as a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department representing the cabinet and Idrus Harun as attorney-general were instructed by the Agong to table the proclamation of emergency and the ordinances for debate and voting in Parliament.
The truth is that the cabinet has willfully and deliberately treated the Agong's instructions with total disdain by failing to act as instructed. This is disobedience at the most serious level.

PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister’s Office has wrongfully treated the King as a “mere rubber stamp” in its response to the royal rebuke it received over the revocation of the emergency ordinances, Pakatan Harapan said.
The opposition coalition’s legal committee said the PMO’s decision to cite Article 40(1) of the Federal Constitution which stipulates that the King is required to act in accordance with the advice of the Cabinet, showed that it treated the King as the latter’s mouthpiece.
This was done with scant respect for the King’s position as “moral and legal compass of the nation”, the committee said.
PH also labelled Putrajaya’s interpretation that it satisfied Article 150(3) by having the emergency proclamation and related ordinances being “laid” on the MPs’ tables as the “most dishonest argument”.
Instead, it argued that the emergency ordinances would only cease to have effect if resolutions are passed by both Houses revoking such a proclamation or ordinance.

Pakatan criticises PMO’s statement defending revocation of Emergency Ordinances, says Federal Constitution, parliamentary democracy betrayed
![[Image: anwar_ibrahim2_29072021.jpg]](https://media2.malaymail.com/uploads/articles/2021/2021-07/anwar_ibrahim2_29072021.jpg)
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council today chastised the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for defending its move to announce the revocation of the Emergency Ordinances (EOs) in Parliament, accusing the government of betraying the Federal Constitution and the parliamentary democracy.
In a statement today, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu criticised the PMO, saying the root problem lies in the statement made by the de facto law minister, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who had on July 26, announced that the government has revoked the EOs effective July 21.
“However, Istana Negara’s statement yesterday clearly stated that His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had not consented to the cancellation, and Takiyuddin had misled the members of the House of Representatives. Therefore, the counter statement of the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday was arrogant and rude towards the Head of State, in violation of the Federal Constitution and the system of parliamentary democracy.
“It is important to note that a government that has lost good relations and is no longer loyal to His Majesty is unlikely to survive,” the trio said.

PETALING JAYA: All Umno MPs must withdraw their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced today, hours after the fiasco over the emergency ordinance.
In a statement, he also called on Muhyiddin and law minister Takiyuddin Hassan to resign honourably after failing to get the King’s consent to revoke the emergency ordinances, despite announcing the revocation on Monday.
“This is clearly a form of treachery against the King while going against the Federal Constitution.
“Umno MPs must comply with the Umno supreme council’s decision on July 7 to withdraw support from Muhyiddin as prime minister.
“This is in line with the foundation and goal of Umno’s establishment, which is to always preserve and uphold the institution of Malay Rulers, as enshrined under Article 3 of the Umno constitution,” he said.
