PETALING JAYA: Umno and Bersatu are “divorced” and Umno will not accept Bersatu back as a partner for any reason or for the next general election, says Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.

He said there were many reasons for the parting of ways, such as the establishment of Bersatu in 2016, which he said had led to the Umno-led Barisan Nasional losing power in the 2018 general election.

Report: PKR’s Nik Nazmi calls for more inclusivity in discussions with DAP, Amanah
Posted by: superadmin - 04-03-2022, 01:30 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — PKR’s Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has said that there is a need for a greater sense of inclusiveness among Pakatan Harapan component parties DAP and Parti Amanah Negara, in that any agreements outside of the coalition finalised by the former should be discussed with PKR as well.

The Setiawangsa MP cited the many statements issued by DAP-Amanah which his party was not privy to during the Johor state election last month and the seat negotiations with Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

“You can see in the Johor elections there were many statements we were not privy to. Suddenly ‘DAP-Amanah, DAP-Amanah’.

“And then there was the Muda negotiations. For us that wasn’t very nice because Harapan should be talking together,” he was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini in a joint interview with incumbent PKR vice-president Chang Lih Kang.

US biggest spoiler of Ukraine situation, European security
Posted by: superadmin - 04-03-2022, 11:56 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

After the latest round of talks between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey on Tuesday, both sides said the negotiations released positive signals. Ukraine proposed adopting neutral status in exchange for security guarantees from the international community. Russia said the country would sharply cut military activity around Kiev and Chernihiv.

But such positive signals were clearly not what the US wants.

On Wednesday during White House press briefing by Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, when she was asked "Is the US willing to become a guarantor of Ukraine's security or considering that option?" Bedingfield said, "We are in constant discussion with Ukrainians about ways that we can help ensure that they are sovereign and secure. But there's nothing specific about a security guarantee that I can speak to at this time."

China, EU share consensus, to jointly face global crisis

Xi calls on EU to form independent China policy, encourages bloc to take primary role for Ukraine resolution

[Image: 831cdbb2-4b1d-41a5-85a8-f71de2dea733.jpeg]

Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a video meeting with EU leaders on Friday, offered four suggestions on how China and the EU can cooperate to help with the current Ukraine crisis, especially on supporting the EU play a primary role in promoting communication among the EU, the US and NATO and finding solutions to build an effective and sustainable EU security framework.

Observers said that China is offering pragmatic solutions to the EU while encouraging the EU to be diplomatically independent on the Ukraine crisis; and instead of pressuring China to join in sanctioning Russia and being kidnapped by the US, the EU should take control of its own destiny and take action for its security.

Subsidy cuts: it was Dr Mahathir, not DAP, says Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 04-02-2022, 08:44 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 28112020-KUL-anwar_ibrahim_13-SAIRIEN.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – It was not DAP that pushed for slashing subsidies during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration, as PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim suggested that the blame might lie with then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Anwar last night said the subsidy cuts targeted at farmers and fishermen had caused the Malay community to blame the decision on then finance minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

The subsidy cuts were not supported by Guan Eng, and when the matter was brought up to the prime minister, Dr Mahathir insisted that the subsidy mentality must go, he added.

“Dr Mahathir gave the same reply that we cannot go on with the subsidy mentality, as it will not bear good results and we disagreed strongly.”

Malays are indebted to Kit Siang, says Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 04-02-2022, 08:52 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (1)

PETALING JAYA: Malays are indebted to DAP mentor Lim Kit Siang for educating the masses on their rights in the country, says Anwar Ibrahim.

The opposition leader said Lim had spoken out not only about politics and the country but also on racial sensitivities and racial perceptions.

Lim was different from “certain Malay leaders” who had openly criticised the community, he said.

“Some called the Malays lazy, of depending on subsidies, of not being grateful and easily forgetting (about the government’s contributions to them). However, Lim said the opposite, that Malays do work hard and there are no lazy natives,” Anwar said in a tribute to the DAP veteran who has announced his retirement from active politics.

Acknowledging Lim’s contribution to Malaysian politics, Anwar said no amount of titles such as “Datukship, Tan Sri-ship and Tunship” could ever match his accomplishments.

“And as a Malaysian and as a Malay, we are indebted to you, Kit Siang, for educating the masses on their rights in this country,” he said.

Anwar praised Lim for his integrity and his will to remain consistent and never concede, and never having compromised on his values and principles.

“In politics, we need this integrity, courage and tenacity. Lim embodies these qualities. Malaysians will remain proud of you,” he said.

Lim, who is 81, announced last week that he was quitting politics and withdrawing from elections for a seat in the party’s central executive committee. However, he was later named DAP mentor by the central committee.
