LABUAN, April 23 — Parti Warisan (Warisan) will be contesting in several parliamentary seats in the peninsula in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said.
Shafie said the move was taken to spread the Sabah-based party’s influence following the party’s first appearance in the Johor polls last March.
“Not only do we want to defend our position at the Sabah state level, but we are ready to spread our wings in Peninsular Malaysia,” he told reporters at the Labuan Warisan Iftar programme here yesterday.

US President Joe Biden is expected to announce in the following days another round of military support to Ukraine, worth $800 million, Reuters reported on Tuesday. This would bring total US military aid to Ukraine since late February to well over $3 billion, Reuters said. On the same day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the US and Western countries it controls are doing everything to drag out Russia's operation as much as possible with "intentions to provoke the Kiev regime to fight to the last Ukrainian."
Also on Tuesday, CNN cited defense officials and sources familiar with US intelligence as saying that the US doesn't really know what happens to the weapons sent to Ukraine: whether they are armed as the US intended or whether the shipments ultimately end up in unexpected places. This being the case, though, the US is still working to enhance its military aid to Ukraine.

Xi proposes global security initiative at Boao Forum to stress common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable views
Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a global security initiative which stressed a commitment to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security and to reject a Cold War mentality, group politics and bloc confrontation while delivering a keynote speech via video link at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2022 in South China's Hainan Province on Thursday.
Analysts said the proposal was necessary and urgent amid rising concerns over the impact on global stability and the economy brought by the Ukraine crisis and attempts to build small cliques to create confrontation. It urges countries to take overall security concept to avoid the Cold War mentality.

Malaysia Airlines parent company reports improved FY21 financial performance on successful restructuring, cargo revenue growth
KUALA LUMPUR (April 21): Malaysia Airlines Bhd's parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) reported on Thursday (April 21) earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) of RM433 million for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2021 (FY21) from a loss before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation of RM1.761 billion a year earlier on MAG's successful restructuring and cargo business revenue growth at a time when the global aviation industry continued to contend with the impact of Covid-19-driven movement restrictions.
In a statement, MAG said its cargo business arm MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd's revenue grew 52% to RM3 billion in FY21 from a year earlier.
"Despite lower passenger traffic and reduced capacity for Malaysia Airlines by 62% and 71% respectively in 2021, Malaysia Airlines recorded 57% higher yield in passenger revenue, assisted by its Airline Revenue Maximisation Solution (ARMS) which provides a complete and comprehensive picture of an airline's revenue and cost ecosystem, personalising fares and offers to customers at a willing-to-pay rate using predictive forecasting features.

Umno’s Shahril Hamdan believes his party must reform but its return to popularity pushing that agenda further down the line
KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 ― Umno’s defeat at the watershed 2018 general election should have been the impetus the party needed to institute reforms.
But as support returns amid political fatigue, its current information chief Shahril Hamdan admits that the reform spark is fading fast.
Umno won two back-to-back state elections ― Melaka and Johor ― with landslide majorities, spurring confidence that is now translating into a push for snap polls.
Shahril told Malay Mail in an interview recently that he is hopeful Umno will regain federal power in the 15th general election, rumoured to be planned for the third quarter this year

| YOURSAY | Minister’s snub of PSC makes mockery of Parliament |

Dr Raman Letchumanan: "They (Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and his ministry) gave an excuse that the cabinet did not allow them to attend (a parliamentary select committee meeting)," PSC on education chairperson Maszlee Malik told Malaysiakini after they did not appear at the meeting on Wednesday (April 20).
In July 2021, I wrote this opinion piece where I stated that constitutionally the cabinet is answerable to the Parliament.
In particular, Article 43 (3) of the Federal Constitution states: “The cabinet shall be collectively responsible to Parliament”.
The parliamentary select committees (PSCs) are unanimously agreed by all MPs, both the government and opposition, to inquire into any matter of public interest and report to the Dewan Rakyat for further action.
In this case, it was alleged that the same set of questions in a public exam (SPM) was administered to a subsequent batch of students.
This strikes at the core principle of education - that no one should be allowed to copy or have an undue advantage and pass an exam.
The government (cabinet) should rightfully be alarmed by this expose and take every opportunity to allay the fears of possible manipulation of our education system.
However, the cabinet despite its constitutional obligation refuses to attend an inquiry by Parliament.
The cabinet obviously has violated the Constitution. What is the punishment for that? For them to step down, at least? What is the prime minister's stand on this matter?
Indeed, this goes against the basic principle of parliamentary democracy. The executive (cabinet) having given the full powers to govern the country, now refuses to answer to Parliament for their (mis)deeds, in other words, the rakyat.
Earlier the MACC chief refused to attend an enquiry by Parliament citing deficiencies in the invitation over a scandal involving his shares ownership.
Are the cabinet and government officials making a mockery of Parliament, the highest august institution of the country?
I think the cabinet itself needs an education on our Federal Constitution.
If this matter is not addressed properly and openly, the public cannot be blamed for looking down upon our education system, much maligned as it is.
The Middle Man: Does that mean the PSC is toothless and powerless? The PSC must have the legal authority to summon any parliamentarian or cabinet member to sit in the hearing.
Refusal to attend must warrant punishment like denial of privileges, suspension and if needed, even disqualification of being an MP.In addition, the PSC should also be empowered to take legal action to enforce its findings otherwise it makes a mockery of the PSC and its functions.
