Patriot slams vets for campaigning in army berets with Najib
Posted by: superadmin - 03-10-2022, 08:23 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

JOHOR BARU – Armed forces veterans’ group Patriot took some army veterans wearing green berets to task after they were seen with former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on his campaign trail for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the run-up to the Johor election this Saturday.

Its president Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji said that the former members of an elite security force tasked to defend the nation should uphold their principles and refrain from being tarnished by political and vested interests.

Najib is currently the adviser for BN.

"It is most alarming that our veterans – and trained commandos, mind you – are seen on the Johor election’s campaign trail seemingly throwing their support for a political party leader and MP whose appeal is pending following the court’s recent ruling that he is guilty as charged,” he said in a statement today.

He said witnessing the former elite soldiers gathering alongside Najib was both degrading and demoralising given that the Pekan MP has been labelled as a “national embarrassment” and a “plundering idiot”.

Given that Malaysia is a democratic nation, veterans can take part in political campaigns, he stressed, adding that retired soldiers must play a constructive role as responsible citizens.

What lessons can Pakatan learn after 14 years of ruling Penang? – Ian McIntyre
Posted by: superadmin - 03-10-2022, 08:20 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20201127-PPG-penang_state_assembly_build...es_pic.jpg]

THOSE who attended the inaugural media briefing of the opposition immediately after the electoral victory of DAP and its partners in Penang around 14 years ago would probably be fined for infringing standard operating procedures if the event had been held today.

In 2008, a crowd of people would be a welcome sight. But today, it would be shunned due to the Covid-19 virus, which has taken close to 2,000 lives in the state. The notion of physical or social distancing was not heard of then.

The room then was so full that all protocol was lost. Even the prospective deputy chief minister, Muhammed Fairus Khairuddin of PKR, could not find a seat.

Anyway, the oracles were never with Fairus, a former factory manager who would later quit his government position due to a fallout with the coalition just over a year later.

His tenure was then believed to be among the shortest in Malaysia’s political history, although events in the past two years have made it pale in comparison.

The pact, now known as Pakatan Harapan, has come to rule Penang for 14 years.

But the question on the lips of the average voter is whether it has learnt anything from governing a diverse state like Penang.

There are signs that PH may be taught a future lesson or two by a restless electoral pool because of hardship in weathering the pandemic and an economic depression, in addition to some unkept promises.

As Penang prepares for the next election, it is a war which can easily be lost if infighting prevails.

Can DAP, following the footsteps of its perpetual rival Gerakan, be voted out of Penang in the upcoming general election?

‘Malu Apa Bossku’ against Islamic teachings, Lee Kim Yew tells EC

PETALING JAYA: Tycoon Lee Kim Yew has written to the Election Commission (EC) to complain over how former prime minister Najib Razak has been campaigning for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Johor state elections.

According to a report by Nanyang Siang Pau, Lee said the “Malu Apa Bossku” tagline that is used by Najib’s supporters violates “Islamic teachings” and needs to be stopped.

The letter was sent to EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh yesterday.

Look at your own backyard, Umno man chides Kelantan deputy MB
Posted by: superadmin - 03-10-2022, 08:00 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A state Umno leader has slammed PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah for saying that Singapore is more developed than Malaysia because it has never been ruled by Umno and its Barisan Nasional (BN) allies.

According to an Astro Awani report, Kelantan Umno youth chief Noor Hariri Mohamed Noor described Amar’s remarks as a “foolish joke”.

“Amar’s remarks at a ceramah show that he is desperate to find fault with Umno because he knows that Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) popularity has declined,” he said.

He pointed out that PAS had been governing Kelantan for over 30 years and yet the state was in a rut.

“Kelantan PAS has done a bad job in administering the state. In all these years, it failed to address issues such as clean water supply, the lack of job opportunities and investments, as well as the drug problem,” he said.

Somewhere a man has lost his son
He can’t begin to understand
He takes a knee and says a prayer
For what is one without the other
And in the cold and pouring rain
He calls aloud a single name
And in his heart he feels the pain
For what is one without the other

Somewhere someone has lost a love
They can’t begin to understand
Why every thing they see reminds them of
Why they are one without the other

Somewhere a son must say goodbye
He can’t begin to reason why
 While everyone around him cries
He’ll be one without the other

Xi's virtual summit with Macron, Scholz to encourage Europe-Russia direct talks over Ukraine

Chinese President Xi Jinping had a virtual summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday in Beijing, supporting France and Germany in promoting a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework for the interests and lasting security of Europe.

Xi emphasized the need to jointly support the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, while encouraging the two sides to maintain the momentum of negotiations and calling for maximum restraint to prevent a massive humanitarian crisis.

Experts said that the latest talks between Chinese and European leaders showed that China and Europe share similar stances and interests on the Ukraine situation, signaling that the two sides can effectively coordinate and cooperate on solving the Ukraine crisis and injecting new hope for an endgame of this crisis. As China also shares strategic mutual trust with Russia, it is expected to play a constructive role in helping tackle the current crisis, experts said.
