KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has allowed Muda, a party formed by former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, to proceed with a judicial review against the government’s refusal to register it as a political party.

Judge Noorin Badaruddin granted the leave application in her chambers today.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), representing the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and home minister Hamzah Zainudin, did not raise any objection against Muda’s application.

The court set Oct 5 for further case management.

PETALING JAYA: Women aged 18 to 30 regularly face sexual harassment, with 44% of them saying that they had witnessed their teacher making sexually provocative jokes, according to a recent survey.

While 45% of the respondents claimed that they had not witnessed sexually provocative jokes by a teacher, 11% said they were uncertain or could not recall if they had seen it when they were in school.

The nationwide survey by the Centre for Governance and Political Studies (Cent-GPS) in collaboration with the All-Women’s Action Society (Awam) had asked 1,056 women aged between 18 and 30 if they had experienced sexual harassment in their day-to-day lives.

In a statement on the survey results, Cent-GPS said most of the women reported being sexually-harassed regularly while doing simple daily activities.

Malaysian queen of 3D jelly makes waves in Australia
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 05:40 PM - Forum: Inspiring Stories - Replies (1)

PETALING JAYA: While it’s common for most people to discover their talents during their formulative years, uncovering one’s hidden talent during adulthood is always a possibility.

This was certainly the case for the Siew Heng Boon, 38, who has made quite a name for herself both here and in her current home of Sydney, Australia due to her artistic talents.

But Siew is no traditional artist, and she carries neither palette nor canvas with her. Instead, her artworks are in the form of 3D jelly cakes and they’re every bit as gorgeous as any work of art.

Perhaps you might have caught a glimpse of her work on social media, where they have wowed folks through their exquisite details and beautiful designs.

Ranging from blooming flowers to entire fish ponds, her 3D jelly cakes are a thing of marvel and one might almost feel guilty at the mere thought of slicing into one, much less eating it.

Malaysia ready to welcome China into CPTPP: Miti
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 05:30 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: 20201229-china-malaysia-flags-screengrab.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – As one of the pioneer members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Malaysia is looking forward to welcoming economic powerhouse China into the fold, anticipated to be as early as next year.

“The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) is particularly encouraged with the recent move by China to formally apply for accession into the CPTPP,” the ministry said.

In February this year, the United Kingdom became the first country outside the Asia-Pacific belt to formally request for accession into the CPTPP.

Within a span of seven months, the CPTPP has received another accession request, demonstrating the significant value of the agreement and its attraction to countries within and beyond the Asia-Pacific region, the ministry said.

Widely regarded as the gold standard for regional trade agreements, the CPTPP offers immense economic opportunities for both Malaysia and China, it added.

Anti-hopping law must not punish post-election alliances: Dr Mahathir
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 05:22 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 12112020-KUL-tun_mahathir_parliament-pool.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – No anti-hopping law should penalise lawmakers from a single political party for forming alliances following a general election to get a simple majority for a federal government, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Langkawi-Pejuang).

The former prime minister said this is in the event that no single party or coalition has the majority support of MPs to take control of Putrajaya after the national polls conclude.

As such, he said, there should be a clear definition of what constitutes party-hopping when drafting such a provision.

“There are times during an election that no single party has enough MPs (to form a government),” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today when debating the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s speech.

“In such a situation, there is a need for some parties to join the one with the most lawmakers to achieve a simple majority.

Adele all but confirms Rich Paul is her boyfriend with new Instagram post
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 04:42 PM - Forum: Celebreties News - No Replies

[Image: 210919130952-adele-2017-exlarge-169.jpg]

(CNN)Rumors have been swirling for months about the status of Adele's relationship status, but now she is making it official on her Instagram account.

Adele, 33, and Rich Paul, 39, were first linked when Paul told the New Yorker in May they were "hanging out." The proof appeared in July when the couple attended Game 5 of the NBA Finals together, but since then it's all been speculation until today's post.

The 'Hello' singer started the post with two images of her made up in a black and white gown, and ends with a black and white selfie with Paul. The caption is a simple heart emoji.

China and the US were both born from armed conflict

China and the US were both born from armed conflict. They're now polar opposites on gun control

[Image: 210915030023-china-gun-control-file-2020...ge-169.jpg]

(CNN)Last week, a 47-year-old man stormed into a law firm in China's Wuhan city and shot dead a lawyer who he had "some disputes with," according to Chinese state media. He then stuffed his gun, just under 20 inches (50 centimeters) long, into a tennis racket bag and left.

The fatal shooting shocked many in China, which has some of the world's strictest gun control laws -- so much so, that some people thought initial reports were about yet another American shooting.

"When my friend told me about the shooting, I thought it was the United States," one person wrote on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Another user wrote, "Using a gun to kill people in China? Am I watching an American movie?"

That disbelief widely reflects how rare gun crime is in China -- in contrast to it being a daily reality in the US.

The two countries stand on opposite ends of the spectrum of gun control, with the right to bear arms legally protected and vehemently defended in one, and a near-total ban on civilian firearm ownership in the other.

Malay rights groups dispute recognition of UEC for tertiary study
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 01:55 PM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - No Replies

[Image: 20210314-KUL_-_Pembela_Chairman_Aminuddi...en_-02.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – In recent weeks, the opposition over the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) has reignited among Malay rights groups even though the current government has not indicated interest to move forward with the issue.

Malay rights umbrella group Pembela has been airing its opposition on its social media platforms, with its chairman Aminuddin Yahaya saying that giving the UEC recognition is akin to “a betrayal of our grandchildren, our ancestors, the education system and the country’s harmony”.

Some UEC opponents say this issue is a litmus test for newly minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his administration.

For now, Education Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, who was retained from the previous Perikatan Nasional administration, has not brought up the UEC issue, besides clarifying last August that UEC holders have been accepted since 2011 for the Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching programme (PISMP) specialising in Chinese language at teachers’ training institutes.

Ministerial posts constitutionally unmandated offered as ‘bribes’ for lawmakers: Dr M
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 01:50 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 14122020_-_Mahathir_Mohamad_press_conference.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – The appointment of politicians into the government and given ministerial ranks is a form of bribery, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (Langkawi-Pejuang).

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, the former prime minister highlighted how several appointments have been made recently to fill up certain positions that are not provided by the federal constitution.

“There is no criteria stating that ministerial ranks can be accorded to any appointment. But we know when they are given ministerial ranks, these individuals will enjoy all the benefits given to cabinet members.

“This is a form of bribery, too, as it is not focused on the duty that is to be carried, but more on the benefits being given to these people,” he said in debating the royal address in Parliament today.

Ex-IGP apologises to Kit Siang over ‘dividing’ country along racial lines comment
Posted by: superadmin - 09-20-2021, 01:43 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR: Former inspector-general of police (IGP) Hanif Omar made an official apology to Lim Kit Siang today over allegations that the DAP veteran attempted to separate Peninsular Malaysia according to racial lines.

In his apology statement before the court, Hanif retracted his statement made against Lim on Sept 6, 2018 at a forum held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam.

“I confirm that the plaintiff’s (Lim) arrest in 1969 was not on the basis that he called for the country to be divided according to racial lines,” he said before High Court judicial commissioner Quay Chew Soon.

Lim had filed a defamation suit against Hanif in 2018 over the former top cop’s claim that Lim “wanted to split Malaysia along racial lines”, with the west coast for the Chinese and the east coast for the Malays.

He alleged that Hanif’s remarks had ruined his reputation as an MP and a public figure.
