PH changed the rules on debt, Najib tells ’emotional’ Tony Pua
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 11:15 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak, hitting back at “an emotional outburst” by Damansara MP Tony Pua, said Pakatan Harapan had changed the rules on counting national debt.

Unlike other governments around the world, including Singapore, the PH government tried to create an entirely new definition which included direct government debt, government guarantees and lease obligations.

“As explained numerous times before, all other countries in the world and the various international agencies classify government debt as only direct government debt and does not include the other two.

“No one other than the PH government uses the definition that PH uses. It is just not internationally recognised and does not follow accounting standards,” he said.

His criticism came after Pua had responded to Najib’s statement that the government’s direct national debt had now reached RM1 trillion, a far cry from when his administration headed the country. Pua hit back by saying that the RM1 trillion debt was entirely that of Najib’s Barisan Nasional government.

Govt, EC urged to find ways for Johoreans working in S’pore to vote in state polls
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 10:54 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20210729-Akmal_Nasrullah_Mohd_Nasir-bernama.jpg]

JOHOR BARU – The federal government and the Election Commission (EC) have been urged to find ways so that about 200,000 Johoreans working in Singapore will be able to vote in the coming state election.

Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said every citizen has the right to vote, and the government needs to strengthen the democratic process justly and as best as possible by finding a way despite the restrictions of standard operating procedures.

He said among the measures that might be considered is to use a dedicated Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL-Land) for voters or open a polling station across the causeway.

“For example, there could be a special VTL for Malaysians to return to vote, or we can open a polling station in Singapore.

“Postal votes need flawless management, while if a polling station is opened in Singapore, the process of bringing ballot boxes to the country must be done transparently to avoid disputes,” he told a press conference at the PKR Johor Office here yesterday.

Bersatu-PAS pact unlikely to benefit Perikatan ahead of Johor polls: political analys
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 10:34 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – The pact between Bersatu and PAS might prove too little too late in terms of garnering votes for Perikatan Nasional (PN) during the upcoming Johor polls.

Furthermore, considering the deeply entrenched history of the relationship between the state and Barisan Nasional (BN) component party Umno, the pact is unlikely to lead to any fruitful gains.

Such sentiments were expressed by political analysts, including Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Azmil Tayeb who believes that the alliance is setting the stage for an overwhelming Umno victory similar to the one witnessed in the Melaka polls in November last year.

“It is hard to imagine how the alliance will be able to challenge Umno’s dominance in the Malay-majority areas, especially with Johor being the birthplace of the party,” he told The Vibes.

Azmil added that the only hope for survival for the PN coalition is to use government resources to support populist programmes in a bid to shore up voters’ support.

Mysterious plane or boat fragment washes ashore in Desaru, causing a stir
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 10:31 AM - Forum: Local News - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – A buzz erupted among beachgoers at a section of the Desaru coast in Johor on Friday evening when what seemed to be a part of an aeroplane was found washed ashore from the South China Sea.

The material was dotted with barnacles, indicating that it had been at sea for quite a long time.

What particularly added to the excitement and curiosity was that it had red and blue colourings on it.

However, preliminary findings indicate it could be part of a light aircraft which may have gone down in the South China Sea many years ago, or even from a marine vessel.

Alerted by The Vibes, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong immediately put his officers on the find.

“I will issue a statement after being briefed so we know the proper context,” he said.

Court decision on pensions exposes a ‘time bomb’
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 10:19 AM - Forum: Local News - Replies (1)

A recent court decision has saddled the government with a huge pensions problem that could cost billions of ringgit in backdated claims, if implemented.

The nation’s annual pension bill, which has been growing every year, could, some day, become a burden too heavy for taxpayers to bear.

This is a result of a Court of Appeal ruling on Jan 13 which declared as unconstitutional a government amendment to the way the pensions scheme is adjusted from time to time.

From 2013, a new scheme was introduced based on a flat rate of a 2% annual increment. Those who retired before 2013 received pensions based on the salary grade of the time.

Puad mocks PN’s multiracial hopes and fear of Chinese votes
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 10:07 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: mohd-puad-zarkashi-bernama-221118-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: An Umno Supreme Council member has questioned Perikatan Nasional’s commitment to multiracial support, suggesting that recent exits by Bersatu members arose from the lack of support among Chinese voters.

Puad Zarkashi said the two assemblymen who recently quit Bersatu had won in the previous general election because of Chinese support.

Larkin assemblyman Izhar Ahmad left the party yesterday, a few days after the resignation of former Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Mazlan Bujang.

Puad predicted that many more would leave Bersatu.

Puad said the Chinese made up 60% of voters in Puteri Wangsa. “This time round, they are not confident that Chinese voters will back Bersatu,” he said in a Facebook post.

Why wait? Just do it already, PAS
Posted by: superadmin - 01-31-2022, 10:00 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 02-ABDUL-HADI-AWANG-MUZAKARAH-PAS-BERSATU.jpg]

From Clement Stanley

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has threatened to strike back at Umno if it triggers more state elections after the Johor polls.

Why wait? Why not do it now ? After all, it is said that fortune favours the bold.

Hadi must know that now is the right time to strike because there may never be any more state assembly elections until the 15th general election comes around.

If there is any substance to what he is saying, we can all assume that PAS is in a commanding position to immediately put the so-called court cluster in Umno into oblivion.

Isn’t that so? Just think what it would do for PAS’ confidence and its allies in the PN. With the Johor elections set to take place no later than March, Hadi could well bury Umno in Johor once and for all by striking back now and not later.

Not only would he be able to bring the “arrogant and mighty” Umno to its knees but more importantly, he would be able to show the rest of us that where all else has failed, PAS has succeeded in bringing the Umno juggernaut to a screeching halt.

Masters of pretence: leaders separated from reality by degrees
Posted by: superadmin - 01-30-2022, 09:23 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

As a nation, we have failed to develop a culture of humility, appreciation of the value of the long struggle, and the merit of solidarity over individual achievements.

These failings rest solely on the heads of our leaders.

They have plundered the three most vital elements that are needed for any society to thrive; they have robbed ordinary Malaysians of a decent and fulfilling life of integrity and security. In our nation, education, accountable governance and respect for the environment have been ruined.

Most societies reward those who hold university degrees. In Malaysia, things are slightly warped. We also reward degree holders who are persistently illogical, and woolly in thought. Many of our politicians are degree holders and fit this exact description.

MACC to investigate Maszlee after his accusations of intimidation
Posted by: superadmin - 01-30-2022, 09:09 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be investigating Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik, who recently accused the commission’s officers of intimidation.

In a statement today, MACC denied the allegations by Maszlee and added that it has received two complaints against the MP.

“According to the law, investigation processes must be carried out once we have received an official complaint regarding bribery offences and the misuse of funds,” it said.

Stressing that the commission will not bow down to pressure from any parties attempting to distract it from the matter at hand, it added that all investigations will be carried out according to standard operating procedures, which include speaking to witnesses involved in the issue.

Yesterday, Maszlee claimed that MACC officials had intimidated several of his officers at his service centre in Simpang Renggam, when the officials in question dropped by the centre and questioned his officers on the activities organised in the constituency.

“The MACC officers were obviously trying to dig for possible mistakes that may be found in my welfare and educational activities in Simpang Renggam,” he told the press waiting outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters yesterday afternoon.
