PAS seriously considering cutting ties with Umno, says info chief Posted by: superadmin - 02-02-2022, 12:53 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies KUALA LUMPUR – Amid a souring relationship between PAS and Umno, the Islamist party now appears to be considering cutting all ties with its Muafakat Nasional (MN) partner. PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin said the betrayals by certain factions within Umno, including in causing the collapse of the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN) government and triggering a number of state elections, have led PAS to reconsider its cooperation. The Dewan Negara senator warned that his party’s patience has limits, and that it would not hesitate to part ways if it is established that the marriage of convenience with Umno has affected Muslim unity. “What is happening right now, with the betrayal of a certain number of Umno leaders towards PN, we are taking this into consideration,” he said during a dialogue session with Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan. “If you are asking me when is the turning point for PAS, we will stick to our procedure. The matter is now under consideration. If there is strong support (to sever ties), we will call for an emergency assembly (Muktamar). “We will then table this to the PAS Syura Council to turn it into a policy. James Chin of University of Tasmania said it was futile for PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim to play down talk of a disunited opposition following his party’s decision to use its own logo in the polls. Speaking to FMT, he said some voters would be questioning PH’s ability to form a government since it could not even agree on the use of a common logo. Anwar has been insisting that PKR’s decision has not affected ties among PH parties. In a video posted on Facebook, the Muar MP said he had been renting the bungalow in question since his days as the youth and sports minister in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. “With the Johor state elections nearing, I have been subjected to slander by many, and they are willing to produce expensive, studio-made videos to bring me down. “What is most amusing is claims that I own a bungalow worth millions (of ringgit), with a swimming pool,” he said. The Kulim Bandar Baharu MP, who is also Pakatan Harapan secretary-general, added that the name list of registered members will be presented to the branch for checks and objections before it is then submitted to the component party’s member registration.  “The process above will take place from February 3 to 9. “If there are objections to any of the newly registered members, the branch can bring up their reservations to the Secretary-General’s Office before or on February 9. “All objections will be reviewed and decided on by the party’s Supreme Council, and the decision will be final,” Saifuddin said. Kedah DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew instead urged the people here to focus on celebrating Chinese New Year while also not discounting the threat that Covid-19 continues to pose in the state. Reports have surfaced that the two Umno members namely Sg Tiang assemblyman Datuk Suraya Yaacob and Bandar Baharu assemblyman Datuk Norsabrina Mohd Noor may join other parties, but many political observers here said that it was just an attempt to rattle PAS’ hold in the state, given that Umno is not in any position to inflict damage in the state. Tan does not expect the two Umno representatives, who are state excos, would betray the PAS-led state government, here. “I think it is a joke. PH, through PKR and Amanah, has five and four seats respectively, while DAP and Pejuang have two seats each.
