MY HEART bleeds for my non-Malay fellow Malaysians. I seek forgiveness from non-Malays for the apartheid mentality of some Malays.
I cannot change the colour of my skin, and nor do I have the power to change the mentality of many Malays.
But I feel for you, and can only assure you that there is still a core of fair-minded Malays who believe deeply in meritocracy, integrity, morality, honesty, honour, fairness, social democracy and righteousness.
We are quite a large number, and I truly believe the numbers of fair-minded Malays are increasing.
I put the blame for the sad state of our current situation squarely upon the shoulders of the hypocrite and corrupt politicians, who have long used race and religion as political bait.
Until they stop, I cannot see the situation improving significantly. Nor do I see the frustrations of non-Malay Malaysians abating anytime soon.
I know many of you will want to give up, and migrate.
But I urge you to stay, and help moderate Malays to make change happen. Let us remember the names of all the scoundrel politicians who betrayed our mandate in the last general election, who are currently having a field day raping the coffers of our country.
Remember them and in the next state and general elections, let us turn out in full force and throw them out. We did it in GE14, and we will do it again in GE15. Let us pool all our votes, come out, and vote out these despicable politicians.
And all the young voters who can now vote arising from the Undi 18 law, please don’t make the mistake of not voting. Come out and vote, and make your vote count.
It is the greatest mistake you will make if you let your angst and exasperation lead to you not exercising your hard won right to vote.
If you do not come out to vote, you might well have your worst nightmare as your next prime minister.
I have a prayer. I pray that there will one day rise a truly honourable Malaysian leader, and a truly multiracial party that will enact a law to make race and religious baiting illegal under whatever legal system that we may have left.
I am so sorry and I pray the Year of the Tiger will bring about the changes we are all praying for. – The Vibes, February 4, 2022

Scars, tumours and combat boxing: the story of my conquest over cancer – Anne Edwards |

TILL today, I have one question that I am too afraid to ask: “Am I going to die?”
I know no doctor will be able to give me a straight answer especially on my third encounter with cancer.
Yes, three is the number of times I’ve had cancer. I survived the first in 2013 when I was diagnosed with Stage 1D ovarian cancer – after two major surgeries and a series of chemotherapy, I was given a clean bill of health.
The second was in 2016 when I was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer only after weeks of suffering from intestinal pains that I was wheeled into the operating theatre for an emergency major operation to remove the tumour from my colon.
All I can remember is the doctor telling me (just before I was wheeled in for the surgery) that the cancer had spread to my liver, news that shattered my family who were waiting patiently outside.
But I told myself if God wanted me dead, I would have died a long time ago so it was clear that I was meant to live and fight yet another battle with cancer.
I woke up in the intensive care unit (ICU) of University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) after what seemed like an endless surgery only to be told about a week later that the biopsy done on the tumour revealed Stage 3 colon cancer and that it has not metastasized.

IS leader died in ‘act of desperate cowardice’: Joe Biden |

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden Thursday described the death of Islamic State leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, who blew himself up along with his family during a US raid in Syria, as an “act of desperate cowardice”.
The nighttime special forces raid in Syria’s northwestern Idlib region dealt the biggest setback to the jihadist group since Qurashi’s better-known predecessor, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in a similar operation in 2019.
“Last night’s operation took a major terrorist leader off the battlefield,” Biden said in remarks from the White House.
“As our troops approached to capture the terrorist, in a final act of desperate cowardice, with no regard to the lives of his own family or others in the building, he chose to blow himself up...rather than face justice for the crimes he has committed,” the US leader said.
In detonating the bomb, Qurashi “took several members of his family with him, just as his predecessor did”, Biden added.
Biden said the Syria operation had sent a strong message to terrorists around the world: “We will come after you and find you.”

PETALING JAYA: Two business organisations have suggested that a general election be held to end excessive politicking and increase investor confidence in the economy.
Spokesmen for the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) and the SME Association of Malaysia said perceived political instability was dampening investor confidence in the country.
MICCI executive director Shaun Cheah said domestic and foreign investors were either withholding investment decisions or cautiously investing until they could see a more stable political environment.
He was commenting on a recent statement from Federal Territories Umno Youth leader Nizham Abdullah Hamidi that heavy politicking was affecting the government adversely, especially in its decision-making process.

Why do some people get Covid when others don’t? Here’s what we know so far |

- An increasing amount of research is being devoted to the reasons why some people never seem to get Covid — a so-called never Covid cohort.
- There are multiple anecdotes of Covid cases being discovered among couples, families or groups of colleagues who have mixed closely, but where not everyone has become infected.
- This could be due to a variety of factors, ranging from prior infection with a similar virus to genetics.
One of the great mysteries that has emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic — and one that’s still being investigated by infectious disease specialists — is why some people catch Covid and others don’t, even when they’re equally exposed to the virus.
Many of us know entire households who caught Covid and had to isolate over the pandemic, but there are also multiple anecdotes of couples, families and colleagues where some people caught the virus — but not everyone.

A historic plunge in the stock price of Facebook’s parent company has erased more than $230bn in its market value, easily the biggest one-day loss in history for a US company.
The 26.4% wipeout in Meta comes amid concerns about its future after the company reported its first ever drop in daily user numbers in its Wednesday earnings report.
Facebook rebranded to Meta last year as part of its strategic pivot to becoming a virtual-reality based company. The company has also been hit hard by privacy changes at Apple, which Facebook has said it expects will cost them billions in lost sales.
The slump in stock price has sent Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth tumbling by nearly $30bn.
Meta’s stock fall marked the biggest slide in market value for a US public company, according to a Reuters analysis of Refinitiv data.

New York (CNN Business)Melinda French Gates may be shifting her approach to how she gives away her vast wealth following her high-profile divorce last year from Microsoft (MSFT) founder Bill Gates.
French Gates is said to have decided not to give the bulk of her estimated $11.4 billion fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter. Instead, French Gates is expected to donate to other charitable endeavors, according to the report, though she may also continue to give money to the Gates Foundation.
The decision is said to have been made official late last year, according to the report, around the time Gates French published her first solo letter for the Giving Pledge, an effort that encourages the world's richest people to give away the majority of their wealth.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 ― PKR’s decision to snub the Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo for the Johor election was not made “without criticism” from both the party and its allies, according to sources.
However, the decision was “agreed” in part to end the dispute over which — the PH or PKR logo — would perform better in rural and semi-rural seats such as those that would feature during the Johor election.
“The matter wasn’t just discussed recently. It has been a matter of contention since the PH government collapsed in 2020,” a PKR leader told Malay Mail in anonymity.
