MEF: RM1,500 new minimum wage would derail economic recovery
Posted by: superadmin - 02-06-2022, 01:59 PM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) reiterated that now is not the right time to increase the cost of doing business and the proposed RM1,500 new minimum wage implementation would derail economic recovery.

President Datuk Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the majority of Malaysian businesses are not ready and not in a position to implement the proposed new minimum wage as they are still reeling from the economic shock brought about by Covid-19 and the devastating impact of the recent major floods.

“More efforts should be directed towards business recovery in the private sector and controlling the rising cost of products and services. We must remember that most Malaysian businesses are micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), whereby 98.9 per cent are in this group.

“So, when we talk about wages and cost, we must think of their survival and sustainability,” he said in a statement today.

Muda unintimidated by electoral challenges in Johor

JOHOR BARU – The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) party’s core emphasises the politics of values, service and policy heading into the Johor election.

Speaking to The Vibes, Muda secretary-general Amira Aisya is aware that her party faces an uphill battle in Malaysia’s most southern state but hopes the people of Johor will understand that they aim to bring a fresh political landscape.

“Principally, Muda is a multi-cultural and diverse party aiming to bring positive political changes to Malaysia.

“We are a political party aiming to serve Malaysians regardless of age, gender, race, background or religion.

Power in voters’ hands to boot out shameless politicians – Zulkarnain Md Saufi
Posted by: superadmin - 02-06-2022, 12:14 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

I REFER to YB Ong Kian Ming’s media statement on Value-Added Leadership as posted on Facebook.

I wish to thank the Bangi MP and former international trade and industry (Miti) deputy minister for exposing the deceit perpetrated by the current Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

I have no wish to repeat in detail about what Ong said – how Azmin took credit for the decades of hard work and sacrifices made by the bureaucrats to lift Malaysia to where it is, in terms of foreign direct investments.

To top it off, Ong revealed that Azmin has been most incompetent. If anything, Ong, of all people should know how Miti works, having been a deputy minister there himself.

The episode reminds me of my personal experience at work. I have seen how certain bosses take credit for the sleepless nights put in by their subordinates. These shameless bosses don’t even have the decency to give their staff a pat on their backs.

Fowl play: chicken shortage result of multiple govt cock-ups, farmer claims
Posted by: superadmin - 02-06-2022, 11:54 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – The current chicken shortage in the Malaysian market stems from a series of poor government decisions, observed a local player.

The chicken farmer, who did not want to be named due to “fear of repercussions”, pointed towards the rising costs of chicken feed.

“The price of chickens is controlled, but the price of feed made from corn, which we import, has gone up along with transportation costs.

“In the global market, countries are scrambling to get their hands on the feed,” he told The Vibes when contacted.

Now, due to the rising costs and fixed price of chickens, farmers have been forced to reduce their supply.

Maintaining a steady supply of chicken, he said, would see losses borne by farmers.

He stressed that the price of the birds needs to be increased, but the government seems to be lagging or outright refusing to budge on the matter.

Vernacular schools open doors to new opportunities

KUALA LUMPUR – Knowledge has no boundaries especially when it comes to mastering another language that is not your mother tongue.

In fact, it opens doors to new opportunities for those wanting to advance in their careers or aiming to establish themselves as industry leaders.

While vernacular schools and their role in education continue to be a thorny issue in the country, it benefits Malaysians of various ethnicities by being fluent in Chinese and Tamil.

Assoc Prof Mohammad Rahim Kamaluddin, a criminologist at Psychology and Human Well-Being Research Centre, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia attended Tamil primary school in SJK (T) in Menglembu, Ipoh before completing his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Anderson, Ipoh, Perak.

‘Clueless’ PM and Cabinet put us in bad shape, says Zaid
Posted by: superadmin - 02-06-2022, 09:16 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A former minister has hit out at Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Cabinet, saying they are so inept that none of them are worthy of being a “poster boy”.

“The country is in a bad shape and it’s because we lack good leadership. This bunch is clueless,” Zaid Ibrahim told FMT.

The former law minister listed a slew of problems facing the country, from a stuttering economy, labour shortages, skyrocketing food prices and rising inflation to an “ineffective” finance minister who “does not understand the struggles of those on the ground”.

“People are suffering and the person in charge of the nation’s purse doesn’t seem to comprehend what is happening. It is quite alarming,” he said, in a reference to finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s reluctance to allow more withdrawals from the Employees Provident Fund.
