Did US-Funded Biological Labs In Ukraine Secretly Developing Covid-19 Virus? |

Donald Trump had been calling the Covid-19 as “China Virus” or “Chinese Plague” for months during his presidency. In his political rhetoric, he claimed that the virus was “sent by China”. Blaming the Chinese was a simple, yet effective tactic to divert gullible Americans attention from his mishandling of the pandemic. Unfortunately, he still lost the Oval Office to Joe Biden.
China, of course, has rubbished Trump’s accusation. However, the damage has been done. Trump’s racist rhetoric was instrumental in sparking anti-Chinese sentiment in the country, where Asian Americans have been constantly targeted. The former U.S. president also said his government will investigate whether the virus came from a laboratory in China despite the lack of evidence.
Prior to Trump’s rhetoric, top US general Mark Milley had raised his doubt on the similar issue, saying American intelligence suggested the Coronavirus was likely to have occurred naturally instead of being manufactured in a laboratory. Besides China, Trump has also deflected attention to the WHO – and cut US$400 million funding to the World Health Organization.

Umno’s Nur Jazlan says not seeking to reclaim Pulai in GE15 because report shows BN can’t win the Johor federal seat
JOHOR BARU, March 25 ― In a surprise announcement last night, Johor Umno deputy chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said that he will not be contesting the Pulai parliamentary constituency for the coming 15th general election (GE15).
He cited the challenging political climate as a reason, despite Barisan Nasional’s (BN) landslide victory in the recently concluded Johor state election.
“As the Pulai BN chief, I will not seek to contest in the coming general election as I feel that my time is up and BN has no place in Pulai anymore.
“I have seen my own voter base reduced from my first stint as an MP in the Pulai parliamentary constituency back in 2004, where I managed more than 70 per cent majority to only 40 per cent in the last general election in 2018.

From Moaz Nair
Politically, the best option for the nation is to have a two-party or two-coalition system. Voters can make a choice between the two. This though may not happen when there are too many political parties in the country with each being ambitious about winning in elections.
The 15th general election will most likely see a few political coalitions and parties contesting in Peninsular Malaysia – BN (Barisan Nasional), PN (Perikatan Nasional), and PH (Pakatan Harapan). There will also be other parties such as Pejuang, Warisan, and Muda joining the fray.
The real contest however would be among the three coalitions – BN, PN and PH – unless the opposition parties are able to form a united front against BN. A fractured opposition will be advantageous to BN as votes for the opposition parties will be split giving little chance for PN and PH to trounce BN.

KUALA LUMPUR – “It’s an incredible move for the athletes. It’s about time.”
Former national gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi applauded the Youth and Sports Ministry’s efforts to protect athletes’ wellbeing through the implementation of the Safe Sport Act.
Speaking to The Vibes, Farah said if the Act could be implemented, it would be a way forward for athletes and the sporting industry to safeguard themselves from sexual harassment.
“Of course, in the past, there have been ways for athletes to come forward. This Act strengthens the resolve of an athlete to train in a safe environment.
“This way, perpetrators would be accountable for their actions.
“It’s about time. I hope with this (Act), the sporting industry in Malaysia can progress to a higher level,” she said.
Farah, who recently retired from the world of competitive gymnastics, shared that there have been situations where some athletes refused to come forward because they were afraid of the repercussions on their careers.

ISLAMABAD (March 24): Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said he will not resign, rejecting opposition calls to step down ahead of a no-confidence move against him in his toughest challenge since coming to power in 2018.
Pakistan's parliament will convene on Friday to start proceedings into the no-confidence motion, which could take seven days to actually go for voting to decide whether Khan will be removed.
The no-confidence move has risked constitutional, administrative, and economic crises amid a pending International Monetary Fund review to issue the next tranche of a US$6 billion rescue package, which was scheduled this week but has yet to happen.

Biden’s Brussels trip eyes further sanctions on Russia but EU should regain its strategic autonomy: expert
As US President Joe Biden is set to meet NATO and EU leaders on Thursday in Brussels with plans of new sanctions against Russia, analysts said that Europe should strive to regain its strategic autonomy as blindly following the US does not serve the EU's best interests.
Biden will also discuss longer-term adjustments to the NATO force posture and contingencies in case of nuclear weapons are used, and he will also announce "joint action" on enhancing energy security in Europe, which is highly reliant on Russian gas, Reuters reported, citing US National Security adviser Jake Sullivan.
Biden's visit to the EU to meet with heads of EU and NATO countries amid the Ukraine crisis has attracted global attention. Poland will also be one of his stops, but not Ukraine, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told a press conference on Sunday.

KUALA LUMPUR: A federal minister has accused Pakatan Harapan (PH) of violating the memorandum of understanding (MoU) it had with the government after the opposition coalition demanded for a bloc vote on a provision of a controversial law.
Communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa said PH’s action had essentially nullified the MoU, Bernama reported.
“In my opinion, because of their actions, the MoU is cancelled.
“This is a blessing in disguise as the prime minister can now cancel or suspend the implementation of the MoU,” he said in a Facebook post today, adding: “Suspend the MoU! Jom!… We will prepare for GE15.”

The scientists helping farmers kick the chemical habit |

MOUGON – In a field in western France, the small purple and white flowers quivering among tender shoots of wheat are a clue that this is not conventional single-crop farmland.
In fact, this whole area is part of scientific work to help farmers cut down on their use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers.
"I felt that these products were dangerous," said farmer David Bonneau as he hunched over the little wildflowers – veronica and hickweed. And "the general public is asking for reductions".
One of his experimental plots is treated the standard way, with chemical weedkiller; another he weeds mechanically with a harrow whose teeth tear up the wild plants; while a third will not be treated at all.
He is part of a project involving 400 farms and around 40 villages in the Deux-Sevres region of western France, where scientists are experimenting with different techniques to cut pollution.

Ukraine crisis instigator: US-led NATO reneges on ‘Not one inch eastward’ promise to compress Russia’s space to the extreme

Editor's Note:
Since the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine began, the international community has become increasingly aware of the roles the US and NATO have played behind the crisis.
From leading NATO's eastward expansion to hem in Russia's territorial space, to launching color revolutions; from imposing sanctions on "disobedient countries," to coercing other nations to pick sides… the US has acted like a "Cold War schemer," or an "vampire" who creates "enemies" and make fortunes from pyres of war. The Global Times is publishing a series of stories and cartoons to unveil how the US, in its superpower status, has been creating trouble in the world one crisis after another.
This is the first installment.
When the Soviet Union disintegrated, Russia, as the "eldest son" of the 15 Soviet republics, inherited the Soviet Union's "one-vote veto" status in the UN Security Council, as well as most of the Soviet territory, overseas assets, and debts. At the same time, Russia also inherited the great power and historical leanings of the Soviet Union, as well as the promises and betrayals, grievances and hatred surrounding the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
Among them, the eastward expansion of NATO might have been the most jolting for Russia.
