  PAS’ politics of desperation
Posted by: superadmin - 11-12-2021, 10:54 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: P-Ramasamy-n-Hadi-Awang-Collage-121121-2.jpg]

From P Ramasamy

Are my ears fooling me, or did I hear PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang saying that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition was formed to fight extremist forces in the country?

Did he say that these extremist forces are now operating in Melaka?

The self-righteous Hadi thinks that he can say whatever he wants simply because he comes from a holier-than-thou religious party, the bridge between heaven and earth.

As they say, it takes a thief to know another thief.

It is well known that Hadi is a racist and religious extremist. His political strategy is based on the principle of divide and rule, not just non-Muslims but also among Muslims.
Hadi thinks by labelling others as extremists, he can emerge as a moderate and respectful leader.

But unfortunately, it is too late in the day for this. He and his party are beyond redemption.

Gone are the respectful days of PAS’ former spiritual leader, the much beloved Tok Guru, Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Maybe Hadi, since he knows so much about the extremist forces, should go one step further to name and shame them.

Time to move on from ‘hard worker’ Norhizam, says new DAP candidate
Posted by: superadmin - 11-12-2021, 10:48 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

AYER KEROH: Former DAP man Norhizam Hassan Baktee was a hardworking assemblyman but it’s time for Pengkalan Batu voters to move on from the defector, says the new Pakatan Harapan candidate for the state constituency.

DAP’s Muhammad Danish Zainudin said Melaka needed fresh and vibrant candidates who were capable of coming up with new policies that would benefit the people.

“I respect Norhizam as he was a hard worker, especially when serving his constituents.

“However, we need to move one step forward. Do we want fresher politics or do we want the opposite? The people of Melaka have to determine who is best to represent them for the next five years,” he told FMT.

Danish hoped that all candidates vying for the Pengkalan Batu seat would compete in a healthy manner and be able to ensure that everything they offered would be for the benefit of the voters.

On the Malay community’s distrust of DAP, he said Melakans felt the party had taken care of all people regardless of race and religion during its 22 months in the PH state government.

Medical marijuana okayed, but change drug laws first: Ramkarpal tells govt
Posted by: superadmin - 11-11-2021, 08:31 PM - Forum: Health News - Replies (6)

[Image: ramkarpal-583848-20190823093751_810414_2...200059.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s current drug laws do not align with the Health Ministry’s (MoH) recent statement on the usage of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

In the Dewan Rakyat today, Ramkarpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor-PH) said while he welcomes the clarification made by MoH, the announcement does not reflect statements made by the nation’s judicial branch – particularly the Federal Court’s decision on Muhammad Lukman Mohamad, also known as Dr Ganja.

Lukman, an alternative health practitioner, had used cannabis oil to treat his patients when the usage of regular medicines proved ineffective against their ailments.

He was sentenced to death on August 30, 2018, under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (DDA) for trafficking 3.1 litres of cannabis oil, 279g of compressed cannabis, and 1.4kg of substances containing tetrahydrocannabinol.

FT minister to suggest businesses become supermarkets to sell hard liquor

Seputeh MP: ‘Illogical’ of FT minister to suggest businesses become supermarkets to circumvent KL’s hard liquor ban

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — The suggestion by the Federal Territories Ministry for grocery stores, convenience stores and Chinese medicine halls to change their business status to a supermarket in order to circumvent Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) hard liquor ban controversy is patently absurd, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

During her debate on Budget 2022, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said she was informed of the suggestion by representatives of business stakeholders and Malaysia’s Associated Liquor Merchants Association (ALMA), following their recent meeting with Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim several days ago.

In the meeting, Shahidan reportedly told the representatives to apply to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) to have their current business entity status changed to a supermarket if they wished to continue selling liquor after the prohibition came into effect on November 1.

Judge rejects Trump attempt to slow down documents from going to House committee

Judge rejects another Trump attempt to slow down documents from going to House January 6 committee

[Image: 211109073726-president-donald-trump-whit...us-169.jpg]

(CNN)A federal judge on Wednesday night said she would not help former President Donald Trump as he attempts to buy time in his argument to keep secret records from his presidency, pointing him instead to an appeals court to seek help.

Judge Tanya Chutkan's latest decision comes a day after she ruled against Trump in a historic case regarding access to records from his presidency sought by the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

Trump, the judge said, cannot "do an end run around" her decisions to try to win the case by forcing a delay, just because he's appealing.

Chutkan has stood by her decision that documents from Trump's presidency should be given to the House panel. She also found that Trump, as a former President, cannot claim the documents are covered by executive privilege, when the current President supports their release.

With the National Archives set to send records to the House on Friday, Trump is scrambling in court for even a temporary hold.

BN, Perikatan sharing same bed, just competing for CM post: DAP
Posted by: superadmin - 11-11-2021, 12:13 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 09112021_-_MLK_-_Perang_Bendera_PRN_Mela...HMAN_3.JPG]

MELAKA – Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) are in it together to reclaim the state, but are only contesting under different banners to determine who gets the coveted chief minister’s post, according to DAP.

Party national organising secretary Anthony Loke said this is a strong reason for voters in the state to reject both coalitions and potentially avoid a repeat of the political struggle that led to the current state polls.

He warned that if the BN-PN partnership was to retake Melaka, the state government would be rocked by serious instability throughout its tenure in power.

“Although three main coalitions are contesting, there are really only two choices; us (Pakatan Harapan) or them,” he said during a talk show aired live on DAP’s Facebook page last night.

“They are already sitting together in Putrajaya. They are contesting against each other now just to determine who becomes the chief minister. They want one-upmanship.

“If BN has more seats, they can claim the chief ministership. If PN has more, then they can claim. But it will all go back to square one.”

Loke said that the scrambling and jostling for power would definitely continue if PH is not given the mandate to helm Melaka, with parties within BN and PN trying to topple one another for the top post.

Germany advises against Moderna jab for under 30s
Posted by: superadmin - 11-11-2021, 12:01 PM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

BERLIN – German health authorities today advised against the use of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine for people under 30 due to evidence of a small risk of cardiac inflammation.

The Stiko vaccine commission cited studies showing that mRNA jabs led in rare cases to myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart) in younger patients, with slightly higher prevalence in those who received Moderna.

“For people above the age of 30, there is no higher risk,” it added.

As a result, Stiko updated its coronavirus vaccine guidance and “recommends that people under 30 only be vaccinated with Comirnaty,” the BioNTech-Pfizer jab, one day after France issued similar guidance.

The advisory covers both initial inoculations and booster jabs even if the first vaccine was Moderna, it added.

Umno must be core party, says Khaled dismissing ‘big brother’ jibe
Posted by: superadmin - 11-11-2021, 11:27 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

MELAKA: Core parties are still relevant to Malaysian politics to ensure the country’s political stability, according to Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin.

He said the absence of a core party would lead to disloyalty with party hopping, making it difficult to maintain the political stability of the country or state.

“Secondly, there will be a lot of ‘bargaining’, a lot of ‘give and take’ to the point that important matters cannot be implemented because there is no core party.

“For that reason, Umno needs to contest more than 14 or 15 seats so it can be the core party.

Malaysia a nation that can plan, but never do, says economist
Posted by: superadmin - 11-10-2021, 09:29 PM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Technological advancements should be able to “remove the gaps” in a country full of them, but poor execution has resulted in many discrepancies in connectivity, education and wealth, said an economist.

Noor Azlan Ghazali, who is executive director of the Economic Action Council, said that pursuing a technological future has long been on the agenda as a way to address these shortcomings, but the policies needed to achieve it have never been properly implemented.

“We have been talking about rural and urban gaps for so long, and the challenge now is: how do we get digitalisation to reach everywhere in Malaysia,” he said during a webinar titled “Unlocking Malaysia’s Digital Economy Growth” organised by the Tech for Good Institute today.

He said the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) established in 1995 was one of the first initiatives anywhere in the world aimed squarely at driving technological growth, but its potential was never fulfilled.

Malaysia’s 5G plan hit by telco snub?
Posted by: superadmin - 11-10-2021, 09:25 PM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: TELECOMMUNICATION_TOWER_FMT_15012021-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: None of the local mobile players have agreed to use Putrajaya’s 5G network – rolled out today – citing transparency and pricing issues, according to a government agency and industry captains.

Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) – a state-owned network wholesaler – told Reuters that no agreement had been reached with carriers, adding that “its initial timeline for negotiations had been too optimistic”.

However, it still hopes to launch the service in three urban centres, including Kuala Lumpur.

DNB will now seek formal long-term agreements early next year and talks to deploy 5G services will continue.
