Malayan political parties aren’t welcome in Sarawak election: Abang Jo
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 03:10 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

MIRI – Caretaker Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg made clear that Malayan political parties should stay out of the Sarawak election because they are not welcomed.

“Stay out of the state election. Leave Sarawak to us. We Sarawakians know how to run the state. We don’t want Malaya politics to end up in Sarawak.”

Speaking during the launch of the RM90 million City Hall complex at Miri Marina Bay this morning, Johari said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) knows how to manage the state.

“We know Sarawak better than anyone else. Look at Malaya, they have had three prime ministers in the past few years. We don’t want our politics to end up like that.”

Meanwhile, Johari said he is glad to note that Miri still has economic potential as the oil capital of Sarawak.

He, however, said the local political scene in Miri must remain stable.

Do you want a PH govt in Melaka? Shahrir asks Muhyiddin over ‘bodoh’ accusation
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 02:54 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 14112021_-_MLK_-_Poster_Muhyiddin_di_sek...HMAN_2.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno stalwart Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad has fired back a salvo at Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement that the former is “bodoh” (stupid) for challenging him to collapse the Umno-led Johor administration.

Speaking to The Vibes, the veteran politician said he threw down the gauntlet to Muhyiddin, seeing how the former prime minister had painted Umno in a bad light over the Melaka election, which was triggered due to the party’s internal power struggle.

“My issue was actually about the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. In the case of Melaka, what (Datuk Seri) Idris Haron was trying to do was to give the state back to the PH government. And surely, Muhyiddin would not want this to happen.”

He said it is not a good thing to dissolve the Melaka assembly and force the rakyat into an election.

Govt’s bid against M’sian mothers conferring citizenship to kids born abroad failed

KL High Court trashes govt’s bid against M’sian mothers conferring citizenship to kids born abroad

KUALA LUMPUR – The high court here has dismissed the government’s bid to stay the September 9 decision on granting Malaysian mothers equal rights to confer citizenship to their children born overseas.

Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir also ordered a cost of RM5,000 be paid to all plaintiffs as Malaysian government’s bid was “unnecessary”.

However, the government still has a pending appeal filed on September 9 at the Court of Appeal on the original high court ruling.

In a statement, Family Frontiers – an organisation representing the affected mothers – said it is appalled that the government in its submission stated that there is no prejudice to the mothers in allowing the stay.

On this, the judge said the “hardships faced by the mothers are current hardships and they have waited long enough”.

No bad blood: dropped as candidate, Ginie Lim still solid in campaigning for PKR
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 02:34 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 14112021_-_MLK_-_Lawatan_Anwar_Ibrahim_b...HMAN_8.JPG]

MELAKA – Despite being dropped as a candidate for the Machap Jaya constituency, it appears to the public that there is no bad blood between incumbent Datuk Ginie Lim and the top echelons of PKR.

Although speculation is rife that the Alor Gajah PKR chief is being sidelined by the central leadership, Lim has been working the ground in constituencies particularly under the parliamentary seat.

During a Deepavali event in Asahan yesterday, Lim was seen campaigning at the constituency alongside party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and vice-president Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua.

She arrived at the venue abreast with party leaders to lend support to ex-Umno leader Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who is now contesting under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) banner in the highly sought-after Asahan seat.

  Let down by our leaders
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 02:28 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

It is not just the ministers and members of the Malay elite who insult our intelligence. Leaders of the various “persatuans” (associations), who are supposed to champion the rakyat’s interests, have also failed us.

Current and former leaders and professionals who are members of various organisations representing their trade, like the civil service, academia, social welfare groups, businessmen, lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers and policemen, are all complicit in Malaysia’s mess.

These associations will invite ministers to their annual publicity events, take group photographs and engage in friendly banter. Some of their leaders will end up receiving awards and titles, but when there are issues involving the people, they keep silent. Why?

They are afraid to upset the government and risk their chances of being nominated for further awards, like a Datukship. This is how mercenary-like many leaders in the various professions have become.

These individuals can make a difference but they put power and position (even in retirement) before the well-being of the people they represent.

Video of child on balcony ledge prompts call for extra safety measures
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 02:16 PM - Forum: Local News - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A viral video clip of a little girl climbing over her flat’s balcony and wandering precariously on the ledge has prompted the Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) to call on the government to insist on additional safety measures before approving building plans.

The clip shows the girl, who appears to be on the 10th or 11th storey of the building, looking down after climbing onto the ledge and suddenly climbing back into the balcony.

There are no details as to where or when the incident took place.

CAP president Mohideen Abdul Kader said this incident could be considered a “great escape” for the child but that such incidents could turn ugly if they happened too often.

Many parents were leaving their young ones at home while they went out to work, he said in a statement.

PH promotes communist ideology, PAS tells Melaka voters
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 02:13 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A PAS central committee member has claimed that Pakatan Harapan (PH) promotes communist ideology and thus the voters should not give it the mandate in the Melaka state election.

Kamaruzaman Mohamad said they should reject the opposition coalition based on its past records such as the push to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) and “promoting” communism.

PKR confident of winning all its 11 seats, including against BN’s CM candidate
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2021, 02:08 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

AYER KEROH: PKR is confident of winning all its 11 seats in the Melaka state election, including in Lendu, where Barisan Nasional’s chief minister-designate, Sulaiman Md Ali, is contesting.

Melaka PKR chief Halim Bachik said people on the ground “seem to be accepting Pakatan Harapan” as Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional were grappling for power in the state despite being in the same federal government.

“It is not impossible for us to win all our seats. We will focus on the people in our election campaign,” he told a press conference here today.

PKR’s allies Amanah will contest nine seats and DAP eight in the 28 seats up for grabs on Saturday.

Halim said PH had been going to the ground in Lendu since the state government was toppled in March 2020.

Diabetes and heart failure: Understanding their relationship for better health outcomes

DIABETES and heart disease often go hand in hand.

The former affects over 3.9 million Malaysian adults based on the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2019, specifically 2.8 million adults (above the age of 30) with type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Research has shown that patients with T2D are two to four times more likely to develop heart failure compared to someone without diabetes. Raised blood glucose levels contribute 10-11% to risk of heart failure.

While diabetes can cause a myriad of complications, heart disease is one that is often overlooked. Approximately 6.7% of Malaysians live with heart failure and it is an major cause of hospitalisation in Malaysia.

So what do all these staggering numbers mean in simple terms? Better awareness on gaining appropriate information and support, of course.

That said, before we get to how patients can make better decisions and learn the skills to properly manage their condition, it’s best to lay down the necessary information for those who are not yet at risk to emphasise the importance of the present discussions.

Boeing 737 MAX sees hope of returning in China
Posted by: superadmin - 11-14-2021, 09:02 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: 0b5b1f37-8a28-4399-9006-c779c682400e.jpeg]

China's civil aviation regulator is offering a slight of hope for the Boeing 737 MAX's chances of being back in the skies after being grounded for over 32 months, as latest filing shows that the manufacturer is working to meet the technical requirements mandated by Chinese regulators.

An announcement seen by the Global Times said that in order to address unsafe conditions relating to the 737-8 aircraft Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System within the 737 MAX family, Boeing has initiated design changes to the flight control system software and display system software.

After a comprehensive assessment by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), it was confirmed that the relevant corrective measures can eliminate the above unsafe conditions.

The filing means that the principals required by the CAAC have been basically met, and Boeing can be allowed to enter the technical procedures of airworthiness certification, Qi Qi, an industry observer told the Global Times on Saturday,
