  White paper details China's whole-process people's democracy
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 02:53 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

China on Saturday released a white paper on its democratic model, elaborating with details and examples on how the whole-process democracy with people's full participation works in China.

The white paper was released before the US' "democracy summit," which was scheduled to be held on December 9 and 10, and criticized for promoting democratic hegemony under the banner of democracy and dividing the world by ideology.

The white paper, titled China: "Democracy That Works," was released by the State Council Information Office on Saturday. It introduces China's whole-process people's democracy under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the sound institutional framework, the concrete and pragmatic practices of China's democracy, and the new model of democracy that China has developed.

  Why I became a frontliner

IT is never easy losing a loved one, especially if it is a parent, since the loss will haunt one perennially. This is especially so in the bond a between mother and son – a relationship that cannot be explained merely in words.

For Mohd Azrai Mohd Azhari Mohd Ariffin, losing his 68-year-old mother abruptly to colon carcinoma two years ago is still fresh in his mind.

For the sake of keeping his 73-year-old father and sisters happy, Azrai portrays a stoic demeanour, but deep within he could not shake off the feeling of hollowness and despair, and he knew he could no longer betray his truest feelings.

However, the situation for him has changed and the feelings of obscurity has since passed.

This was caused by the deadly Coronavirus that hit globally on March 11, 2020, when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 as a worldwide pandemic.

As the deadly virus causes chaos globally, in Malaysia, thousands of frontliners continue to carry on with their jobs despite the health risks.

These hard-working heroes are keeping Malaysians safe from the spread of this deadly virus.

Although the term ‘frontliner’ invokes images of doctors in hazmat suits, during the Covid-19 outbreak, volunteers also did not run far from the list.

Azrai was among them – a former media personnel that left all else behind to become a frontliner.

BN staying out of Sarawak polls, will support GPS
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 02:05 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Mohamad-Hasan-n-Johari-Openg-FB-041221.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) has decided to stay out of the upcoming Sarawak elections, a week after Bersatu made a similar announcement.

BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan said the coalition will also not allow anyone to use its logo to contest in the state polls, adding this was consistent with its stand not to contest in any seat and in the spirit of camaraderie with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

The Umno deputy president said he communicated this to caretaker chief minister and GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg during a courtesy call in Kuching yesterday.

“We have officially informed Abang Johari that for the first time, BN will not contest in the Sarawak polls,” he was reported to have said.

YOURSAY | PM, batik will not heal our racial woes
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 11:21 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Vijay47: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, I presume that this colourful batik proposal must be a refreshing idea from one of your brilliant advisors you are paying a king’s and queen’s ransom to each month.

I can just imagine the scene - we deck ourselves out in batik and hey presto, we are all filled with this irresistible patriotic spirit even as we savour the richness of being part of Keluarga Malaysia!

I have another idea to instil this sentiment of nationalistic fervour in keeping with our newfound kinship. On a given date each year, maybe on former minister S Samy Vellu’s birthday, all of us, including Tamil and Chinese schools, could celebrate Sari Day, where women wear a sari and the men a kurta.

And to complete the unity picture, we can have a day when everybody hoists a Chinese lantern in their front yard. This could be on Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong’s birthday.

No, please, don’t pay me advisory fees of RM50,000.

Going through the numerous comments already posted in this comment section, I have computed that 96.7 percent are against Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim's impromptu holiday (in conjunction with Kuala Lumpur City FC’s Malaysia Cup win) and the prime minister's batik decisions.

Yet I must stress that we Malaysians are not against batik or sudden holidays per se as long as the reason befits the occasion.

Just imagine, we would have been chanting for a week-long dressed-in-batik holiday if Rosmah Mansor had been arrested for failing to attend court on Thursday.

But the beating heart still hopes.

Huge $2.6 billion green hydrogen project planned for Europe
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 10:47 AM - Forum: Environment Protection News - No Replies

  • Hydrogen, which has a diverse range of applications and can be deployed in a wide range of industries, can be produced in a number of ways.
  • Over the last few years, a number of major businesses have become involved in projects centered around green hydrogen.

Spanish power company Iberdrola and Sweden’s H2 Green Steel are to partner and develop a major facility that will produce green hydrogen, in yet another example of how companies are taking an interest in the much talked about sector.

In an announcement on Thursday, the firms said the 2.3 billion euro ($2.6 billion) project would see them set up a green hydrogen facility with an electrolysis capacity of 1 gigawatt. Financing will come from a mixture of equity, green project financing and public funding.

Hydrogen, which has a diverse range of applications and can be deployed in a wide range of industries, can be produced in a number of ways.

One method includes using electrolysis, with an electric current splitting water into oxygen and hydrogen. If the electricity used in this process comes from a renewable source such as wind or solar then some call it green or renewable hydrogen.

The idea is that the green hydrogen from the Iberdrola and H2 Green Steel development will be utilized to generate roughly 2 million tons of direct reduced iron, or DRI, each year, which can then be used to produce steel.

How will new Sarawak airline be useful, asks expert
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 10:08 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A transport expert has criticised what he sees as a hasty decision by the Sarawak government to announce the launch of an airline and the construction of an airport in Bebuling.

Transport planning consultant Rosli Azad Khan said chief minister Abang Johari Openg should have first discussed the matter with experts to prevent the raising of white elephants.

Abang Johari recently said Sarawak was planning to set up a boutique airline to be operated by Hornbill Skyways, the state-owned airline company.

He said the move would boost the state economy through the export of agricultural products as well as meet demand for individual travel and tourism in rural areas through the Bebuling STOLport Airport, estimated to cost RM108 million.

Covid: First data points to Omicron re-infection risk
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 09:58 AM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

The first real world data showing the coronavirus variant Omicron may evade some of our immunity has been reported by scientists in South Africa.

Scientists have detected a surge in the number of people catching Covid multiple times.

It is a rapid analysis and not definitive, but fits with concern about the mutations the variant possesses.

It is also not clear what this means for the protection given by vaccines.

A week after the variant was named Omicron, the world is still scrambling to understand the true threat posed by the variant. But now the first pieces of a large and complex puzzle are starting to be assembled.

We already know the variant is heavily mutated and officials in South Africa have warned it is leading to a surge in cases there.

Govt overreacting to Omicron variant? Medical experts weigh in
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 09:40 AM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Amid rising panic surrounding the new Covid-19 Omicron variant, is the Malaysian government jumping the gun and overreacting based on incomplete reports?

This question becomes more pressing when the doctor who first alerted the world of the Omicron strain has herself voiced astonishment over the global anxiety and extreme action following her discovery.

In a commentary piece published by The Daily Mail UK on November 30, Dr Angelique Coetzee stressed that nothing she has seen of this new variant warrants the extreme action that the United Kingdom has taken in response to it.

One more candidate makes 28 for PKR in Sarawak polls
Posted by: superadmin - 12-04-2021, 09:04 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUCHING: PKR has named another candidate to contest in the upcoming Sarawak state elections bringing the total number of candidates to 28.

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said Hapeni Fadil would be contesting in the Simunjan state constituency following requests from the constituents as well as local non-governmental bodies.

“As of now, I don’t know if there will be more candidates in the future. I have no information. Indeed, many want to contest,” he said in a press conference at the Sarawak PKR headquarters here last night.

He said PKR was committed to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) principle to ensure no overlapping of candidates among its component parties in the Sarawak polls.

“We need to focus on areas that have party machinery and strength. Does this mean we are paving the way for GPS to win? No. We don’t want to hog areas where we don’t have enough strength,” he said.
