KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has initiated a probe into the contentious deal involving the takeover of a Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s subsidiary that manages the Kuala Lumpur Tower.
The Malaysian Insight quoted its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki as confirming the matter but stopped short of revealing further details on the investigation.
“Yes, MACC has opened investigation papers,” he said, according to the media report.
This follows a viral social media post earlier this week by Twitter user @FreeMsian highlighting the controversial full ownership transfer of the iconic tower by Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB) to a firm named Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd.

KUALA LUMPUR – An environmental expert has called for the government to table the proposed Climate Change Act (CCA) as soon as possible in the Parliament next year.
The Malaysian Ecological Association president Prof Ahmad Ismail said the pace of tabling and implementation of the new law is crucial in view of the current environmental issues globally and around the region.
“This needs to be done quickly by looking at all aspects of economy and industries, nature protection and wastes, political will and public participation,” he told The Vibes.
Stating that the new law has been long overdue since it was included in the 12th Malaysia Plan while the previous government had planned to table it in 2025, Ahmad said it is important that the new federal government be resolute on the matter with speed.

Of karma, frog hopping and time for Zuraida to quit politics for good |

NETIZENS seem to be both unforgiving and unanimous that Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) has made the right decision to drop the axe on its president-designate Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin (and 10 others) yesterday (Dec 27) amid a leadership struggle with the party’s incumbent president and Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng.
In fact, they have a gala time poking fun at PBM president aspirant who was eventually shown the exit door by the party’s disciplinary committee for failing to respond to a show-cause letter issued to them on Dec 19.
For the record, Sng has emerged the sole PBM victor during the recently concluded 15th General Election (GE15).
While Marcia Rajalumar deemed PBM as having made the right decision to terminate the membership of Zuraida and Co, a cheeky BK NG snubbed the former Ampang MP who party-hopped from PKR to Bersatu at the height of the Sheraton Move saga for “failing to learn from Moo PN (Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) on how to stage a robbery using the backdoor”.

Perhaps he was misquoted or he needs better economic advisers to explain elasticity but essentially economy minister Rafizi Ramli is advising us to be smart consumers and not to be suckers when it comes to price rises. He is right.
Inflation in Malaysia has changed from specific price rises in fuel, utilities and food, which is not formally inflation, to general rises in prices across the Consumer Price Index (CPI) categories, which is formally inflation.
This embeds inflation expectations and consumers expect prices to rise even for products with cheap production costs. They shrug their shoulders and accept it.

KUALA LUMPUR – It has been a year of many firsts on the Malaysian political scene, with the 15th general election (GE15) culminating in the formation of an unprecedented unity government.
The snap polls on November 19 resulted in a hung Parliament, as for the first time since the general election of 1955 no party or coalition managed to win a simple majority to form a new government.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 82 seats, Perikatan Nasional (PN, 74), Barisan Nasional (BN, 30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS, 23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS, six), Warisan (three), independents (two), and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) one each in GE15, which saw the voting age being lowered from 21 to 18 and provided for automatic voter registration.
