PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s employment situation continued to improve in February, when it recorded 591,900 unemployed persons, compared to January, when it stood at 596,100.

The department of statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said this was on the back of a “strong labour market” which had benefited from an increase in economic activity.

PETALING JAYA: Ringgit bonds drew the largest monthly inflow in over a year following bank failures and aversion to credit risk in the United States and Europe, said Maybank Investment Bank Group Research (Maybank IB Research).

In a note today, the research firm said this was due to the fact that regional local currency debts offered both yield and relative safety.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Barisan Nasional treasurer Tengku Zafrul Aziz is one of several candidates the coalition is likely to field in safe seats which DAP and PKR are expected to “sacrifice” in the upcoming state election.

Sources said the international trade and industry minister, who lost the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat in the 15th general election to Dzulkefly Ahmad of Pakatan Harapan, is expected to be given a fairly safe Malay-majority urban seat.

PETALING JAYA: A former second finance minister has cautioned the government against allowing members of the public to use their EPF savings to support loan applications.

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent four-day visit to China has proven fruitful, with billions in investments secured and ties with Beijing enhanced while ensuring neutrality amid rising geopolitical tensions, analysts said.

Universiti Malaya (UM) senior lecturer Karl Lee said although media coverage from both countries seemingly portrayed Malaysia’s pivot from the West towards China, observers should look at the broader international context.

“The inclination to support one power over another comes with serious repercussions, especially when the present international order is facing relevancy and the new – or adjusted – one has yet to be established,” the Institute of China Studies lecturer told The Vibes.
