More Islamic Studies classes only a problem for ‘some people’, says Idris
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 09:39 PM - Forum: Educations - No Replies

SHAH ALAM: Complaints that more hours have been allocated for Islamic Studies lessons over core subjects are only the views of some, said religious affairs minister Idris Ahmad.

He said he found the complaint “strange” as the matter had never cropped up.

“However, it is normal in our large community (for some people to complain). Perhaps, it is because they don’t understand or do not want to understand,” he said at the opening of Madrasah Tahfiz OKU Ata ‘bin Abi Rabah here today.

He was commenting on a tweet by a Malaysian father who expressed shock to find out that his daughter’s school had allocated more hours for religious studies and other related classes than for Mathematics and Science classes combined.

Writing in a Twitter thread, the man posted a photo of his daughter’s school timetable and said there were 5.5 hours of Pendidikan Agama Islam and other related classes in a week compared to Mathematics and Science, which had been allocated 2.5 hours and 1.5 hours respectively.

Badminton great Chong Wei fails to ease BAM-Zii Jia tensions
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 07:40 PM - Forum: Badminton - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Things got out of hand in the battle between the BA of Malaysia (BAM) and former national singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia the last one week.

Zii Jia, the All-England, champion quit the national body to go professional and was speculated to join hands with a Taiwanese badminton equipment manufacturer for a five-year contract worth RM8 million.

In return, yesterday BAM decided to ban the player for two years, which did not go down well amongst Malaysians, who slammed the institution on social media over their decision on Zii Jia.

What many are not aware about is that former national badminton player and three-time Olympic silver medallist Datuk Lee Chong Wei stepped in the last minute to calm things down and stop BAM from announcing the ban.

Johor polls a prelude to push for GE15, claims DAP leader
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 05:18 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Najib-Razak-dan-Zahid-Hamidi-Bernama.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: A DAP leader has claimed that Najib Razak, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy Mohamad Hasan are pushing for a snap general election so they can remain in power.

Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong said the former prime minister and Zahid – both accused of corruption and associated with Umno’s “court cluster” – have been strategising since May 2018 to place the party in a dominant position.

This is to ensure that both of them walk free from their alleged crimes, he claimed.

“The (coming) Johor snap election is the product of the power struggle within Umno. The snap election brings no benefit at all to the people,” Liew said on Facebook today.

“To put it in the simplest terms, the Johor snap polls is just the first salvo for a snap general election, which will be Najib’s and Zahid’s ‘get-out-of-jail’ pass.”

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad says he will be going to the palace for an audience with the state ruler following a state government meeting later this afternoon.

When met by the media, Hasni said he had already received approval from Johor Umno earlier today to hold the state elections.

“I will be having a press conference at 6pm. But first I have to meet with the state’s executive committee and then I will be going to the palace where I have been granted an audience with Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar,” he said.

“Everything will be revealed at 6pm. The main thing is that Umno has agreed to a state election.”

LHDN must order tax audit on Azam over share purchase, says lawyer
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 03:35 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A senior lawyer has asked the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) to step in and audit Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki to ascertain if he had made the necessary declarations on his shareholdings that are in question now.

SN Nair said what the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) declared was based on whether he had violated the specific act that showed whether he was in control of his share trading account.

“Now it has been proven that he was in control, therefore he must have financed the purchase.

“As he may have made profits during the period, a LHDN audit will show if he has violated the Income Tax Act.

Ismail likely to be just a temporary PM, says analyst
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 09:21 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: ismail-sabri-hishammuddin-hussein-fb-210122-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Ismail Sabri Yaakob is unlikely to move beyond being a temporary prime minister as he lacks the vision and charisma to chart the nation’s future, says a political analyst.

Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Ismail was a caretaker prime minister at best and predicted that the Umno vice-president would only remain in the top post until the next general election (GE15).

He told FMT that the main faction in Umno was confident of winning the next general election and installing its own man for the top post, while Ismail lacked grassroots support.

“This administration has been a weak and somewhat reluctant marriage of political convenience from the very onset. As such, it is quite commonplace that members or powerful advisers of the administration would feel free to voice their opinions.

Stupidity and the planet of the apes
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 09:16 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

It’s about time Malaysia imposes a mandatory IQ test on ministers and politicians. Yup, we are the laughing stock of the world again. With our ministers as jokers, who needs comedians like Harith Iskander.

In defence of the Malaysian palm oil industry, plantation industries and commodities minister Zuraida Kamaruddin assaulted the animal kingdom by making the unbelievable claim that planters were not harming orangutans, but that the primates were more likely to kill humans.

An excerpt of her speech began circulating on social media this week and is currently trending on Twitter.

However, Zuraida said on Thursday that her “orangutan will kill you” remark was taken out of context. She said the video clip had been edited in a way to cast aspersions on her.

In the video, Zuraida said: “Even lions and tigers also, when they see, they don’t kill them. They have to have some kind of procedure to faint [sic] them and take them to the zoo. We have all these procedures. We don’t simply kill orangutans.”

However, the February 2018 issue of Global Citizen reported data from 36,555 orangutan habitats which reported a drastic decline of the orangutan population in Borneo between 1999 and 2015, leaving the primate population at less than 148,000.

The report said the palm oil industry was the main culprit for mass orangutan die-offs, as the relentless and often unregulated pursuit of palm fruit led to deforestation and wildfires throughout Borneo.

Let Zii Jia go and find his own path
Posted by: superadmin - 01-22-2022, 09:05 AM - Forum: Badminton - No Replies

[Image: 956d8bbcc6b3e5a7eb4524583e342a57.jpg=s800]

PinkLynx6432: National shuttler Lee Zii Jia's break-up with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is not unexpected following his sometimes erratic performances in several tournaments and sudden withdrawals midway even after solid preparations.

There’s also the untenable pressure on Zii Jia by the badminton crazy-for-success Malaysian public and BAM comparing him with former No 1 player Lee Chong Wei and pushing him to achieve Chong Wei's seemingly unachievable performance targets, and his epitomic 2021 All England success when he was crowned singles champion.

Zii Jia and Chong Wei are starkly different from each other in terms of style of play, match temperament, mental approach and focus, endurance and stamina, playing to strengths and adjusting to the opponent's playing style.

Nevertheless, Zii Jia did not do too badly as he is currently ranked seventh in Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking.

BAM said they want to take him to greater heights and be as successful as Chong Wei. Zii Jia, however, said his main target is to be the best in his career and to stabilise his performance.

I see contrasting statements here. Do this reflect a poor understanding of BAM's approach in coaching Zii Jia, who is apparently short of confidence after his epitomic victory in the All England last year?

Zii Jia is very different from Chong Wei. Period. Stop comparing them and trying to prod Zii Jia to follow in Chong Wei's footsteps. At this moment, he just can’t. He still hasn't got it altogether.

He certainly needs a sports psychologist to calm him down, be more relaxed and not be highly strung, and to allow his stamina to pace rallies and to persevere and fight for crucial points so as to stage winning comebacks.

So, over to you, Zii Jia, and hopefully you can manage yourself better than BAM. I see a rough road ahead for you as you need backup and a good and understanding coach. To everyone else, Zii Jia is not Chong Wei and vice versa. Give him a break.

Dr Suresh Kumar: Zii Jia has every right to decide his future. He has done his part for the country and BAM should appreciate that. Just take a look at some of our veteran sportsmen and sportswomen.

Most of them are left to their own devices in their old age. By the way, he is still representing the country, donning the national colours and carrying the Malaysian flag, so what is the problem with BAM president Norza Zakaria?

In the first place, did Norza play any sports in his life? If he did, at what level? Shame on him to threaten Zii Jia.

  Trust in China

Fraught U.S.-China relations will continue entering 2022. This year, leaders of both countries will be focused on domestic politics, the ongoing pandemic and uneven economic recoveries — challenges that have further added to existing bilateral tensions.

It is an important political year in both countries. U.S. President Joe Biden is facing midterm elections with the Republicans likely to gain seats in the House and potentially the Senate, complicating his administration’s ability to implement its policy agenda. By contrast, China's Xi Jinping is on the verge of assuming a third term as President and is strongly positioned to ensure that his vision for China is carried through.
