Height of irresponsibility for Umno to push for Johor polls: Kit Siang
Posted by: superadmin - 01-24-2022, 03:37 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – With the pandemic still raging, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang slammed Umno for its decision to hold an election in Johor, calling it the “height of irresponsibility”.

Putting the blame on the state’s ruling party, the Iskandar Puteri MP noted that within the last two weeks, the state has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases and related deaths among others in Malaysia.

“Umno intends to use the state election as a platform to rehearse for the upcoming GE15, where the party hopes to restore its political hegemony by reinstating kleptocrats into power,” he said in a statement today.

Lim added that the situation also implies the party’s readiness to put forward a convict of corruption for the position of prime minister.

It is believed that Lim was referring to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who was described as a “national embarrassment” by Court of Appeal judge Datuk Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil.

Warisan to contest all seats in Penang in GE15

GEORGE TOWN: Warisan plans to contest all the state and parliamentary seats in Penang in the 15th general election.

The party’s state coordinator, Jeff Ooi, said more people from different political backgrounds were expected to cross over to the party.

He said he hoped to recruit 50% of its members from young professionals, including leaders from top corporations.

“We are not going to be trapped with sloganeering like our old party. We will not antagonise others. We are looking for like-minded partners and youths to join us,” the former two-term DAP Jelutong MP said at a press conference today.

“Not one seat should be forsaken. We will contest all.”

Ooi said he was aware that Penangites would be sceptical over Warisan but felt it could win them over given time.

Umno Supreme Council to decide on working with PAS in Johor polls, says Tok Mat
Posted by: superadmin - 01-24-2022, 01:59 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: The decision on whether Umno will work with PAS in the upcoming Johor elections will be made at a special meeting of the party’s Supreme Council soon.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the party leadership had taken note of Johor Barisan Nasional’s (BN) stand on contesting in the elections on its own, without the cooperation of any other party outside the coalition.

The views of Johor BN, voiced by its chairman, Hasni Mohammad, would be taken into account before the party’s top leadership made a decision, Berita Harian quoted Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, as saying.

Previously, Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob had recommended that state Umno leaders be given autonomy in making political decisions, which included ties with PAS, which has a pact with Umno under the Muafakat Nasional framework.

2-year ban on Zii Jia is vindictive, says Wong Chen
Posted by: superadmin - 01-23-2022, 05:40 PM - Forum: Badminton - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) two-year ban on national shuttler Lee Zii Jia is “vindictive” and will only see Malaysians losing out, says Subang MP Wong Chen.

An avid fan of the sport, Wong suggested that an appropriate ban for Zii Jia should be six months, taking into account how Japanese star Kento Momota was only given a one-year ban as punishment for gambling in 2016.

“Subsequently, Kento used the one year off to train harder, and he roared back and became a world champion,” said Wong in a Facebook post.

“A two-year ban (on Zii Jia) is simply vindictive. Most professional athletes have only a 10-year career, so taking two years away is just too much.

“Therefore, this punishment can only be interpreted as an attempt to destroy Zii Jia’s budding badminton career. And the real loser will be Malaysian badminton,” added the PKR lawmaker.

PETALING JAYA: Johor PAS still holds out hope that its Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact with Umno will work for the upcoming state elections.

“Johor PAS has been in touch with Johor Umno and has received positive feedback on our request to meet the menteri besar.

“InsyaAllah, a meeting will be held in the near future.

‘The deadliest drug we’ve ever known’: author Sam Quinones on how fentanyl saturated the US

[Image: 5289.jpg?width=620&quality=85&auto=forma...75e3216145]

For the last nine years, Sam Quinones has been studying the changing face of drug use, sales, and addiction in the United States.

In his new book The Least of Us: True Tales of America and Hope in the Time of Fentanyl and Meth, he tracks the explosion of synthetic drugs that has hit the streets of America, increasing the danger of drug use and making addictive chemical substances far cheaper and more plentiful than ever before.

He finds that the days when drug production required land and agriculture are gone. Now drugs are being manufactured from toxic chemicals in vast quantities by Mexican traffickers and introduced to users by slipping them into the supply of other substances, like heroin and cocaine.
