PETALING JAYA: Several academics have spoken of how important it is for Anwar Ibrahim to be seen to be fair when forming his Cabinet.

They said he would have to ensure that the Cabinet remain intact for at least a couple of years. His fairness might make this achievable, they added.

Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara highlighted the importance of exercising wisdom in the assigning of portfolios.

“Cabinet decisions are made collectively and each party in this unity government may exert different influences depending on the portfolios it holds,” he told FMT.

GRS needs to join new govt to represent Sabah, say analysts

PETALING JAYA: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) should join Anwar Ibrahim’s newly formed unity government to ensure the state has representation in the Cabinet, says an analyst.

Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said GRS’ absence in the federal government will leave a gap in Anwar’s inclusive government.

Like Sarawak, he said, Sabah requires special attention from the federal government, thus the need for GRS to be in the Cabinet.

“West Malaysia will have representatives from Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, and Sarawak from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, so Sabah should be represented by GRS,” he told FMT.

PETALING JAYA: Neighbours Singapore and Indonesia have congratulated Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said he was looking forward to meeting his Malaysian counterpart to discuss the common issues faced by the two countries and also to strengthen their bilateral relations, Bernama reported.

Lee said Anwar’s appointment came amid significant challenges in the region as well as internationally.

“As close neighbours and friends, Singapore and Malaysia should work together to manage these challenges and explore new opportunities for cooperation,” he was quoted as saying.

Lee went on to say that the two countries were “steadfast partners” through the Covid-19 pandemic and the close coordination between its ministers allowed for borders to be re-opened and maintain the flow of essential goods and workers.

Can Anwar redeem Malaysia from its bondages to race and religion?
Posted by: superadmin - 11-24-2022, 08:20 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

From Terence Netto

Anyone who has lived as long as Anwar Ibrahim, 74, must recognise a terrible monotony in our national problems.

The inequities imposed by sectarian conceptions of race and religion have shackled the Malaysian polity for four decades at least.

Incidentally, it was 40 years ago that Anwar made his entry into the government of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, justifying his advent there by telling the Abim council he headed that he would be prime minister in 11 years.

It transpired that Anwar was excessively optimistic.

Najib: “Muhyiddin’s treacherous behaviour makes him unfit for PM post”
Posted by: superadmin - 11-24-2022, 07:48 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

HAVING congratulated Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister (PM), the country’s sixth PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak then took a swipe at Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for “having already begun to oppose the Palace and the Council of Malay Rulers”.

The incarcerated former Pekan MP even advised Anwar to challenge the incumbent Pagoh MP to show his list of 115 MPs who gave him their statutory declarations (SDs).

“He said he has 115 affidavits (SD) that support him to become PM. This list includes 10 BN (Barisan Nasional) MPs and 23 GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) MPs,” Najib penned in his Facebook (most probably uploaded by an administrator).

“Even before UMNO and BN had time to meet, their gang of brokers had already started buying SDs from a small number of BN Parliamentarians.”

GPS to be part of unity govt, leaves cabinet appointment to Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 11-24-2022, 06:47 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will join the proposed unity government in Putrajaya led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the coalition’s chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg announced today.

The Sarawak premier said the decision was made by the coalition, which is ruling over the state, in abiding with the decree of the Yang diPertuan Agong for a federal administration with unity among parties.

Abang Johari had earlier accepted apologies from two DAP leaders for previous remarks that had offended the state government.

He said GPS will leave it to Anwar, who was sworn in as the tenth prime minister late afternoon today, to appoint the federal cabinet. – The Vibes, November 24, 2022
