Adhere to Malay rulers’ call, stop fanning hate based on race, religion – Rais Hussin
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 11:17 AM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - Replies (2)

THOSE who claim to uphold Malay supremacy and extremist religious ideologies are now challenged when the very symbol they claim to defend – the Malay rulers – have urged the new government to instil a “spirit of togetherness” among Malaysians.

Specifically, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir reportedly said the following: “I hope that there will be no more leaders who raise racial or religious issues with the aim of inciting the community” after chairing the 260th Council of Rulers meeting today (November 30, 2022).

This is timely advice, and a frankly, a stern warning from the Malay rulers, given the sharp rise of ethnocentric and theocentric narratives from certain political sides, aiming to fan hate, racism and discrimination by using dirty tactics of instigation, fake news and slander – all of which are against the true teachings of Islamic leadership.

Ringgit hits 4.40 against US dollar as Fed adopts less hawkish tone
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 11:13 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: 08012021-KUL-_money_changer_-_usd_ringgi...F_OMAR.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today after the greenback retreated following the US central bank’s less hawkish tone on interest rate hikes, an analyst said.

At 9am, the local note rose to 4.4040/4150 against the US dollar from yesterday’s close of 4.4420/4500.

SPI Asset Management managing director Stephen Innes said the ringgit rallied sharply in full catch-up mode, shedding not only political risk but also spurred by US Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell’s remarks on slowing down the pace of interest rate hikes beginning this month.

Hold state polls on same day to save RM100mil, says ex-EC man
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 11:09 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Wan-Ahmad-Wan-Omar-bernama-071021-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Former Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar has advised against holding separate state polls next year, saying the expenditure could exceed RM500 million.

Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan will hold state elections next year, as the state governments opted against holding elections concurrently with the general election on Nov 19.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Wan Ahmad said Pakatan Harapan and PAS, which control three of the six state assemblies each, must come to an agreement to hold simultaneous state elections.

He said this would save the EC time, costs and manpower.

  NST Leader: Insane expectations
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 10:55 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

The 10th prime minister, barely out of his starting blocks after the tempestuous but cathartic swearing-in last week, must be totally exhausted.

At 75, he's not the spring chicken he used to be, so he must be running on unflagging kinetic energy managing insane expectations.

Anwar needs to sort out the sonorous agitations of his own people, tricky allies, special interest groups, non-governmental organisations, business concerns, industries and parents dealing with their children's education, all in one sitting.

Biden's unpopularity will render second 'Summit for Democracy' fruitless
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 10:42 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 8e1c3fa8-0ded-4074-8d09-4fff8ef199fd.jpeg]

US' attempt to shape itself as the sole leader of the "democratic camp" through the Summit for Democracy won't achieve the desired effect. This is primarily because the US cannot provide attractive leverage nor use its own performance to prove that being in the same camp as the US can help other countries obtain more benefits and larger room for development.

The White House announced on Tuesday that it will host a second Summit for Democracy on March 29 and 30, 2023, and Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Zambia and South Korea will act as co-hosts.

The first Summit for Democracy hosted by US President Joe Biden in December 2021 was snubbed. Among around 110 countries and regions invited by the US government, 89 came to the virtual gathering, according to media reports.

Church group backs Agong’s reconciliatory call to rid toxic politics

THE Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) is throwing its support behind the Majlis Raja-Raja (Council of Rulers) which has decreed that leaders of political parties are to cease and desist raising racial and religious issues to instigate or incite public violence.

CCM further described as timely the decree for the unity government of newly minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to instil the spirit of equality and to emphasise on the Rukun Negara (National Principles) as the basis of the Malaysian society.

Malay-Muslims remain majority in unity govt: Asyraf Wajdi
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 09:55 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 12112022_-_Walkabout_Asyraf_Wajdi_Calon_...mar_19.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – Contrary to fears stoked by certain quarters, Malay-Muslims remain the majority in the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Asyraf lambasted those who alleged that the unity government is dominated by non-Muslims.

He calculated the number of Malay MPs from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional, and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, tallying them up at 68 people.

Historic Pakatan-Barisan joint ceramah in Tioman emphasises unity for rakyat
Posted by: superadmin - 12-01-2022, 09:53 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20221201-Wan_Rosdy_Wan_Ismail-Amirudin_S...ma_pic.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – It was a historic moment in Malaysian politics as two unlikely bedfellows – Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) – fresh from striking an agreement to form a unity government, campaigned together for an election in Pahang last night.

In what would have been inconceivable just a month ago, the red of PH and blue of BN came together at a ceramah in the Tioman state constituency – an event that some of their leaders described as momentous and of great significance.

Following a rivalry that has spanned decades, this was the first time that the two foes have shared the same election campaign stage. It was a sight to behold as PH politicians advocated the BN candidate, Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Hussain, to voters.

Unity govt unstable, BN MPs can threaten to leave any time, says Bersatu man

PETALING JAYA: The unity government under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is unstable and can be threatened at any time by Barisan Nasional, says Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

He said the situation was the same during the Perikatan Nasional government under the leadership of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and the government made up of PN and BN ministers led by Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
