DAP concedes ‘obvious’ drop in support for PH, says Loke
Posted by: superadmin - 04-12-2022, 03:49 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has conceded that there is a significant drop in support for Pakatan Harapan (PH).

In the case of DAP’s performance in the Johor state election last month, Loke said the percentage of those who voted for the party was lower than in previous elections, though DAP managed to retain 10 seats.

He said the party would discuss and set a specific action plan for the next four months to regain support.

“The entire DAP election machinery must be ready by August this year,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He said the voting pattern analysis was presented at the DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) retreat today to understand the impact it would have on the 15th general election (GE15).

Shehbaz Sharif elected new Pakistan PM, vows to promote CPEC projects

Political changes within Pakistan could bring instability after the new prime minister was elected on Monday because the struggles between the supporters of ousted former prime minister Imran Khan and other political parties are unlikely to end easily, and although China doesn't need to be worried about its solid friendship with Pakistan, internal chaos in the country could affect some cooperation projects to some extent, said analysts from China and Pakistan.

The opposition's joint candidate and the President of the Pakistan Muslim League, Nawaz Shehbaz Sharif, became the new Pakistan Prime Minster since the candidate of the PTI (Pakistan Movement for Justice), former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, quit the election held by the National Assembly on Monday.

PTI parliamentarians walked out of the National Assembly after their candidate Qureshi announced a boycott of the polling process, according to Pakistani media.

India highlights loopholes of US’ ‘Ukrainian narrative
Posted by: superadmin - 04-12-2022, 09:14 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

US President Joe Biden met virtually with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. After that, the meeting between their foreign and defense ministers, known as the 2+2 Dialogue, will take place in Washington. Before the meeting, Washington was high profile, repeatedly underlining that the US and India share "common values and resilient democratic institutions," and reaffirmed their shared interests and commitments in the Indo-Pacific region. But a great deal of time has been spent on discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the response of New Delhi obviously differs from that of Washington.

Everyone can see that no matter how much the US emphasizes its strategic partnership with India, no matter how euphemistic it sounds, it cannot cover up the big divergence between the two countries on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, nor will it change the fact that US pressure on India to condemn Russia is the theme of their meeting. The parties concerned are fully aware of this. US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman recently bluntly stated that "We, obviously, would prefer that India move away from their long-term history of non-alignment G77 partnership with Russia." This aroused the anger of many netizens in India: "India does not belong to the United States." "India wants the United States to stop aligning with any country. Will the United States listen?"

Party chiefs, ministers asked me to hop parties, claims Batu MP
Posted by: superadmin - 04-12-2022, 08:40 AM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR: P Prabakaran (PH-Batu) claims that numerous senior politicians including the heads of political parties and ministers had approached him to defect from Pakatan Harapan during the lockdown in 2020.

The PKR MP told the Dewan Rakyat that their attempts to coax him to join the government bloc had failed, adding that he had more “honour and principles” than the 39 MPs who had hopped parties since 2018.

“During the lockdown (in 2020), many ministers, deputy ministers, politicians and party presidents approached me to hop over there (the government bloc).

“They thought that, as the youngest MP, I had no principles or political direction. They thought they could influence me into hopping to the government bloc, but they failed.

“There was a politician who told me: ‘What government-linked company (GLC) do you want? You choose, I can give.’”

Close the door permanently on Bersatu, PKR man tells Saifuddin
Posted by: superadmin - 04-12-2022, 08:33 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (1)

PETALING JAYA: A youth leader in Sabah PKR has urged party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to close the door permanently on working with its former ally Bersatu.

Sabah PKR Youth chief Razeef Rakimin said a recent statement by Saifuddin gave the impression that PKR was prepared to join forces again with the party led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

Saifuddin had been quoted as saying that PKR was open to discussions with any political party, and not just Bersatu, in preparation for the general election.

“His statement seems to show that PKR is still open to negotiating with a party that not only betrayed Pakatan Harapan (PH) but also the people’s mandate which led to the fall of the PH government.

Japan eyes Malaysian gas in face of Russian cutoff
Posted by: superadmin - 04-11-2022, 03:11 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

TOKYO: Japan’s government has asked power companies to top up their liquefied natural gas (LNG) reserves and share energy resources, a person familiar with the contingency plan said, as civilian deaths in Ukraine push Tokyo to halt Russian fuel imports.

Utilities are scrambling for already stretched energy sources as resource-poor Japan joins the West in punishing Russia, a major oil and gas producer – a search made harder on Friday when prime minister Fumio Kishida announced a ban on Russian coal and other sanctions.

Anti-hopping consensus shows snap polls not needed, says PAS man
Posted by: superadmin - 04-11-2022, 03:07 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR: The success of the government and Pakatan Harapan in reaching a consensus on the anti-hopping bill is proof that a general election is not needed to achieve stability in Malaysia, says a PAS MP.

Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas) told the Dewan Rakyat this “historical, major decision” was achieved thanks to negotiations between the Ismail Sabri Yaakob-led government and PH.

Nurul Izzah: Identity politics is unhealthy, politicians should bridge divides and not ‘fan the flames’

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 — Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah decried those who champion identity as the bedrock of their politics, calling their political agenda “unhealthy.”

She said that issues like eradicating poverty and addressing existing class divisions within society should be a priority when it comes to policy making.

“... you want to support politics based on a clear-cut agenda, whether it is to uplift the bottom 40 per cent category, whether it’s to eradicate poverty or whether it is to address the existing class divide.
