Unite to stop GE15 plan of court cluster, says DAP man

PETALING JAYA: Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong has called on all political forces against Umno’s “court cluster” to immediately set fair rules ahead of the looming general election (GE15).

The state opposition leader said all responsible political actors should come to a consensus as to what constitutes fair play when contesting in GE15 rather than allowing this “court cluster” to set the pace and potentially regain power in the federal government.

“We don’t have to allow a general election to happen according to the court cluster’s ‘get-out-of-jail’ timetable.

“All political actors and voters should find ways to foil this cluster’s schedule.

“What is most important now is for all political forces against this cluster, including Umno leaders who do not wish to see the return of Najib Razak and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to work out a set of democratic rules to ensure fair elections and fair processes governing the formation of the government on election night,” he said on Facebook.

Naming of new panel shows up minister Rina, says Hannah

KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s decision to set up a special committee to protect vulnerable groups proves that women, family and community development minister Rina Harun, is not doing her job, a former deputy minister said.

Hannah Yeoh said that it was the ministry’s job to look out for vulnerable groups.

“If a committee is needed for this, it shows that the minister (Rina) is not doing her job as protecting the vulnerable is part of the ministry’s job scope,” said Yeoh, who was the deputy minister for that portfolio from 2018 to 2020.

Still room for Umno and PAS to cooperate through Muafakat Nasional, says Annuar Musa

KANGAR, April 23 — Ketereh Umno division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa is confident that there is still room for cooperation between Umno and PAS through Muafakat Nasional (MN) to face the 15th general election (GE15).

The Ketereh MP said the current deadlock between the two parties was only temporary and efforts to strengthen ties should be continued.

“As a senior politician who has faced PAS in general elections many times, I find MN as a gift from God when Umno and PAS can work together.

“We cannot give up trying to maintain good relations between the two parties even though the ties have been loosened,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin at the Perlis PAS Complex today.

LABUAN, April 23 — Parti Warisan (Warisan) will be contesting in several parliamentary seats in the peninsula in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), its president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said.

Shafie said the move was taken to spread the Sabah-based party’s influence following the party’s first appearance in the Johor polls last March.

“Not only do we want to defend our position at the Sabah state level, but we are ready to spread our wings in Peninsular Malaysia,” he told reporters at the Labuan Warisan Iftar programme here yesterday.

Does peace have any chance with more US military aid to Ukraine?
Posted by: superadmin - 04-22-2022, 10:12 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

US President Joe Biden is expected to announce in the following days another round of military support to Ukraine, worth $800 million, Reuters reported on Tuesday. This would bring total US military aid to Ukraine since late February to well over $3 billion, Reuters said. On the same day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the US and Western countries it controls are doing everything to drag out Russia's operation as much as possible with "intentions to provoke the Kiev regime to fight to the last Ukrainian."

Also on Tuesday, CNN cited defense officials and sources familiar with US intelligence as saying that the US doesn't really know what happens to the weapons sent to Ukraine: whether they are armed as the US intended or whether the shipments ultimately end up in unexpected places. This being the case, though, the US is still working to enhance its military aid to Ukraine.

Xi proposes global security initiative at Boao Forum to stress common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable views

[Image: 51bd6601-b834-4052-b691-5138c0654878.jpeg]

Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a global security initiative which stressed a commitment to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security and to reject a Cold War mentality, group politics and bloc confrontation while delivering a keynote speech via video link at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2022 in South China's Hainan Province on Thursday.

Analysts said the proposal was necessary and urgent amid rising concerns over the impact on global stability and the economy brought by the Ukraine crisis and attempts to build small cliques to create confrontation. It urges countries to take overall security concept to avoid the Cold War mentality.
