DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Bagan Datuk MP, hinted that he is now at the end of his career as a parliamentarian.
“I have been an MP since 1995 and in my opinion, it is a very long service and I am at the end of my service as an MP. But before I finish that, I want Bagan Datuk to develop, progress, be the number one in education in Perak and have good infrastructure.
“We also want poverty among the Indian, Chinese and Malay communities to be eradicated and this is the determination of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to put zero extreme poverty in the whole country,” he said while speaking at the Bagan Datuk Parliament’s Deepavali charity ceremony at Bagan Datuk UMNO Complex Hall.
However, when questioned by reporters about the specific timeframe for his departure from politics, Zahid, who has served the Bagan Datuk constituency for seven consecutive terms, was vague in his response.
“Maybe the General Election (PRU) 16, 17, 18, so let’s wait for the right one,” he pointed out.
Moreover, the UMNO leader claimed that he will work hard to eradicate poverty in his constituency before he quits. – Nov 5, 2023.

As the plot thickens, would Anwar be asked to step down like Tunku Abdul Rahman and Abdullah Badawi?

MALAYSIANS who have been observant enough would have noticed that there is a trend to topple the Madani government by any means possible.
The climax of plot is clearly targeted at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PMX) by harping on every mistake that he makes. Humanly speaking, it is impossible for Anwar to be error-less.
The next is to attack his cabinet ministers one by one. The issues that have been harped upon thus far are clearly divisive even among staunch Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters.
It is interesting that despite all the abuses during the previous governments that were uncovered after Anwar took over, nobody made any assessment nor criticised the mistakes of past PMs with the exception of now incarcerated Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Najib came under tremendous pressure because of the corruption scandal involving the 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) which is touted to be one of the biggest scandals ever dealt with by the US Department of Justice.

KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed constitutional amendments pertaining to the granting of citizenship are “10 steps backwards” and will not improve the statelessness situation, says the Malaysian Bar.
Its president Karen Cheah said citizenship is a basic human right and that the proposed changes may lead to more people becoming stateless by operation of law.
“I also read (home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s) statement that there are other avenues to actually apply (for citizenship), but realistically speaking, we know how it works,” she told FMT.
“The application may go in, (but) it will never get processed. They don’t hear anything from the national registration department (JPN) for years and years. So, it’s all actually window dressing.”

PETALING JAYA: Investors are holding their breath as Bank Negara Malaysia’s (BNM) monetary policy committee (MPC) is set to announce its overnight policy rate (OPR) decision today at the conclusion of its two-day meeting.
With the ringgit falling to historic lows, the central bank is facing increased pressure to hike the OPR to defend the plunging local currency.
The ringgit weakened to 4.7958 last week against the surging US dollar, the lowest in more than 25 years. It had since climbed slightly to close at 4.7695 yesterday. Year-to-date, it is the worst-performing currency after the Japanese yen, having dropped more than 8% against the dollar.
The situation, however, is not unique to the ringgit. Neighbouring Asean countries recently surprised observers by raising their respective lending rates to support their weakening local currencies.
Indonesia and the Philippines hiked their respective lending rates to 6% and 6.5%. Meanwhile, Thailand raised its key lending rate to 2.25%, the highest level since January 2014.

Hong Kong, China is a destination with illuminated skyscrapers, bedecked shop fronts, and Christmas music everywhere. THis is a fascinating place where I am going to have fun through christmas bus travel deals. THis would be a new experience for me and the first time will go there. So what do you think what should not skip to enjoy here and why?
