PETALING JAYA: Discussions between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the formation of the Pahang state government have been going “in a positive direction”, says Pahang PH secretary Rizal Jamin.
In a statement, Rizal said Pahang PH chief Amirudin Shari held talks with BN Pahang chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail yesterday.
“Any further development (on the discussions) will be updated from time to time,” he said.
According to a Bernama report, eight elected representatives from PH who won the contest for state seats in the 15th general election (GE15) had signed statutory declarations (SD) supporting Wan Rosdy.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has highlighted the difference between Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional’s conduct in negotiating with Barisan Nasional on forming a unity government.
Asyraf said PH has been gentlemanly in negotiations with BN.
“However, PN has not changed and tried to strike secret deals by ‘stealing’ 10 (BN) MPs to sign statutory declarations backing Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister,” he said in a Facebook post.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Conference of Rulers will meet at Istana Negara tomorrow amid the continued political impasse over the formation of the new government.
Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah made the decree today following his audience with leaders from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“The Conference of Rulers discussion is meant for His Majesty to obtain the views of the other Malay rulers, to allow him to make a decision for the sake of the interest and well-being of the country and rakyat,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier today, top leaders from BN and GPS were seen entering the palace but did not speak to the media.

AS Malaysia enters its fourth day post-GE15 (15th General Election), there is little light or no light at all envisaged as to who exactly is going to spearhead the quest to lift the country up from its economic turmoil (ringgit depreciation, spiralling inflation, dismal food security prospect and huge national debts, to name a few ills).
First thing first, the impasse over the appointment of the country’s 10th prime minister (PM) remains unsettled – and will likely not be settled anytime soon – even as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has decreed yesterday (Nov 22) evening to meet each and every one of the 30 Barisan Nasional’s (BN) future MPs at 10.30am today (Nov 23).
It seems that the coalition which came in third in terms of the number of seats – after Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) 82 and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) 73 – is very likely to buy time for it has yet to firm up on which coalition to support to form Malaysia’s next federal government.

PETALING JAYA: Pressure is mounting on Barisan Nasional to break the deadlock between Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional, says a source in the know.
Istana Negara has said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will grant an audience to all 30 BN MPs today.
This came after PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim and his PN counterpart Muhyiddin Yassin failed to come to an agreement on cooperating to form the next government.
Yesterday, the Agong asked PN and PH to work together in forming the government, but PN turned this down.
Neither PH nor PN has enough support to form the government.

Over 23,000 sign petition urging GPS MPs to reject pact with PN |

PETALING JAYA: A petition calling for Christian MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to reject any collaboration with Perikatan Nasional to form the next government has garnered over 23,400 signatures as at 9.45pm.
The petition on Change.org was launched yesterday after a Sarawak assemblyman called on GPS to reject any alliance with Perikatan Nasional and its component party PAS, claiming that they were “racist bigots”.
Baru Bian, a former head of Sarawak PKR, said that MPs in the state must preserve the harmony that existed in Sarawak’s multiracial and multi-religious society.
He then alluded to a statement by PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin about purported attempts to Christianise Malaysia by Pakatan Harapan.

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders are seeking a postponement of their scheduled audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today at 10.30am today, according to coalition lead
This is after a fresh round of meetings among BN leaders and 30 of its MPs late last night, during which coalition leaders reiterated their stance of being neutral and not supporting either Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Speaking briefly to the press, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah deputy president and Pensiangan MP Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said they are seeking for a postponement of the meet as the coalition is still having a cooling-off period.

PETALING JAYA: To many people the demise of Malaysian artist Victor Chin is hard to come to terms with.
The 73-year-old was not only a talented painter of local architecture, a filmmaker and a writer, he was also passionate about the conservation of heritage buildings and dedicated his life to heritage and cultural activism.
Chin had been unwell for the last couple of months and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, when he passed away on Nov 14.
Now, those who had worked closely with him to conserve heritage buildings are going all out to ensure that his efforts do not go unnoticed.
Speaking to FMT recently, National University of Singapore (NUS) associate director of architecture conservation Nikhil Joshi said the university and Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority were jointly working to create an award in Chin’s name.

From Ibrahim M Ahmad
A long wait spanning two dozen years may be about to end as Anwar Ibrahim stands on the cusp of becoming Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.
Yet, for that to happen, the secret pact between him and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, which I wrote about previously, must come to light and be accepted by all.
That time had not yet come when Anwar, leader of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition that won the highest number of seats at the 15th general election (GE15), spoke to the press early this morning.
Speaking with extreme caution, Anwar announced his intention to form a government.
“We have entered into an understanding. What I’m saying is we now have the majority to form a government,” Anwar told the press.
He, however, steadfastly refused to “entertain rumours” that the alliance would include Barisan Nasional (BN).
It is a collaboration Anwar was quick to deny almost as soon as I raised it here three weeks ago, and for good reason.

“Power and position too tempting for GPS to ignore!” |

I HAVE a sense of trepidation when I read that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is vigorously pursuing a coalition with Perikatan Nasional (PN) (consisting of PAS and Bersatu), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). This is even when they are in the minority group.
What makes me anxious is that GPS is crawling to PN just to be in the government. PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyddin Yassin had just disparaged the Christian community of Malaysia by falsely accusing them and the Jews of planning to Christianise the Malays if PH wins GE15.
PAS is the most dominant party now – not just in PN but on the overall with 49 MPs. It is not a secret that PAS is a religious extremist party vowing to introduce Hudud law in Malaysia when they come to power.
Paul Raja
Being the largest single party in Malaysia now, who is GPS with a mere 22 MPs to say no to PAS when it comes to implementing laws and policies in Malaysia?
Putting PAS into power will nullify all of GPS slogan. Sarawak for Sarawakians means keeping the status quo of Sarawak as a secular state where all races live in harmony and respecting each other.
Grovelling to PAS (PN) is simply forgetting all reasons and the fight for the Malaysia Agreement (MA63)! MA63 simply means keeping Sarawak secular. So, what is the meaning of MA63 when GPS couldn’t even overcome the temptation of power and lay the red carpet for Hadi Awang to impose religious laws and policies in Malaysia, including Sarawak?
Hadi is a religious fanatic and racist. He insulted the Dayaks as people using cawat (loincloth used to cover the private parts). He then said that only a Muslim Bumiputera can rule Sarawak (Editor’s Note: Sarawak has the highest non-Muslim population in the entire Malaysia with the percentage ranging from 42% to 50%).
GPS also doesn’t understand the basic of the Westminster Parliamentary democracy and the provision of the Federal Constitution where the party with the biggest number has the right to form the government.
It is therefore wrong for GPS with other losers trying to stitch a coalition and snatch the prize from the winner. Respecting the law and the Federal Constitution is of utmost importance to people-elected representatives.
If GPS couldn’t even respect the law and the constitution to fulfil its lust for power, how can we the people trust them? Every elected official is under oath to uphold the constitution and the law of the country.
By trying to set up a government with losing parties also show that GPS has no respect for the voters wish. They forgot that when they joined the Sheraton Move gang, they said they wanted to stabilise the government.
We all know it was not stable, being the very reason why this 15th General Election (GE15) was called. Repeating the same thing – stealing the people’s mandate – will guarantee the same result: instability.
Only idiots will believe that repeating the same mistake will lead to a different result. We would expect GPS to be more honourable and sensible. A PAS-led federal government is a no go for GPS if they treasure the status and harmony in Malaysia as whole. – Nov 22, 2022
