PAS’ influence seems nigh unstoppable: scholar
Posted by: superadmin - 11-24-2022, 07:25 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – At the current rate, the growth of PAS’ influence in Malaysia’s political landscape as a leading force seems unstoppable, said a renowned academician in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Due to its strong grassroots for generations, PAS has been able to sustain and regenerate its position among the urban, semi-urban, and rural populations – and it could be flourishing further in the next five years.

“PAS listens to the voices on the ground. Many people are influenced by the religious groups, including their parents who are disillusioned with some national political leaders who have been highly questionable over time,” said Datuk Denison Jayasooria of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s (UKM) Institute of Ethnic Studies.

Conspiring BN MPs will enable Bersatu’s destruction of Umno
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 09:27 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

From Ibrahim M Ahmad

MPs from Barisan Nasional (BN) who are opposed to the coalition joining forces with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the next government risk either being branded traitors or just gullible pawns in Bersatu’s mission to destroy Umno once and for all.

Despite winning nine seats less than PH in the 15th general election (GE15), Perikatan Nasional (PN), with Bersatu in the driver’s seat, is looking once again to usurp for itself the seat of power in Putrajaya, repeating what it did via the much-maligned Sheraton Move in March 2020.

This time, its enablers within BN are calling for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as Umno president and BN chairman, claiming he no longer has the moral authority to lead after the party and coalition’s annihilation in GE15.

Those calls are premature.

Whether or not Zahid continues to lead Umno beyond his present term of office will no doubt be a key issue at party elections. Under the party’s recently amended constitution, those elections must be held within the next six months.

Despite that, many are calling for Zahid to step down now.

Cracks appear in BN as Umno leaders train guns back at MCA
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 09:05 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) appears to be on the brink of a full blown internal crisis as Umno leaders hit back at fellow component party MCA after the latter called for Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s resignation.

Tension is already high within BN, with coalition members at odds over Zahid’s decision to negotiate and consider a pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the new government.

Earlier today, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon accused Zahid, who is BN chairman and Umno president, of going against the collective decision made by the coalition Supreme Council and for not communicating its resolution “correctly” to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Apologise for ‘treacherous’ rejection of Agong’s advice, army vets tell Muhyiddin

Apologise for ‘treacherous’ rejection of Agong’s advice, army vets tell Muhyiddin, Hadi
[Image: 20210804_arshad_raji_patriot_fb.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – A non-governmental organisation representing retired armed forces personnel, the National Patriots’ Association (Patriot), has demanded a public apology from Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for being “treacherous” in going against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s advice to form a unity government.

In a statement, Patriot president Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji said Muhyiddin’s public stance on the matter undermines the nation’s constitutional monarchy and sets a “very, very dangerous precedent.”

Arshad said Patriot takes very serious offence towards politicians who went against the king’s attempt to ensure the new government can be formed in the best interest of the nation and the public.

Umno, BN component ‘big guns’ among 10 who backed Muhyiddin
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 08:17 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: umno-mca-mic-Parti-Bersatu-Rakyat-Sabah123.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Several Umno and Barisan Nasional component leaders are among the 10 MPs from the coalition who signed statutory declarations (SDs) backing Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister, says a source in the know.

The 10 MPs, who have since retracted their support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, include those from Johor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, and Sabah.

“There has been one Umno leader who has been very vocal against working with Pakatan Harapan,” the source told FMT.

“He led the other nine MPs in signing the SDs backing Muhyiddin. Some of these MPs are ‘big guns’.”

Bung slams ‘clueless’ MCA for calling on Zahid to resign
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 08:12 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Sabah Barisan Nasional chief Bung Moktar Radin has hit out at MCA for calling on BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign as the coalition’s leader.

In a statement, Bung said there was no reason to urge Zahid to step down, adding that MCA should reflect on why it only won two parliamentary seats out of the 44 it was given to contest in the general election.

The Kinabatangan MP added that MCA only won those two seats, Ayer Hitam and Tanjung Piai, because those constituencies had many Malay voters.

“Look in the mirror first before making a decision (like calling on Zahid to resign). We in BN remain calm in facing the current situation, don’t make it worse.”

‘Say no to PAS’ convoy spotted in Kuching
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 07:15 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: A convoy of vehicles were found going around Kuching, Sarawak today blaring “Say no to PAS”, amid reports that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is sticking to its decision to back Perikatan Nasional in forming the government.

The convoy of five vehicles were seen in various parts of Kuching city, with posters urging Sarawakians to oppose and protest GPS’ decision to support PN, which comprises PAS and Bersatu among others.

“We want (GPS chairman) Abang Johari Openg to withdraw (GPS’) support (for PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to become prime minister),” said one of the posters hung on the vehicles.

The convoy had driven around Carpenter Street and the Kuching Open Air Market, among other areas.

Muhyiddin Upset His “115 SD” Rejected – Here’s Why Anwar Still The Favourite To Grab
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 07:10 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Anwar-Ibrahim-Prime-Minister-Candidate.jpg]

Muhyiddin Yassin knew his scam didn’t work when Anwar Ibrahim was also invited to the Palace to meet Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) today (Nov 22), the third day after the 15th General Election that has produced a hung Parliament. In Feb 2020, he managed to cheat his way to become the 8th Prime Minister with just 108 statutory declarations (SD), but not this time.

Yes, on the eve of Muhyiddin’s swearing-in on March 1, 2020, Mahathir Mohamad had 114 votes. To prove it, ex-PM Mahathir had even pre-emptively published the list of 114 MPs (more than 112 minimum seats required to form a simple-majority government in the 222-seat Parliament) who supported him as the next prime minister, along with a letter to the Palace.

Muhyiddin, however, failed or refused to publish the list of Members of Parliament allegedly supported him, but was sworn in by the monarch anyway. His legitimacy was questioned when he locked the Parliament under the pretext of fighting Covid-19. During his 17-month regime, the former backdoor prime minister had never dared hold a motion of confidence to legitimize his leadership.

‘Northern green wave’ cause of Nurul Izzah’s defeat
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 06:10 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

‘Northern green wave’ cause of Nurul Izzah’s defeat, fall of Kepala Batas, Tasik Gelugor?

IT WILL be an understatement to say that Nurul Izzah Anwar is not disillusioned to be defeated in her family fortress of Permatang Pauh since 1982 – and more so on her 42nd birthday.

At a glance, Nurul Izzah’s defeat – deemed one of the three shocking casualties in Penang aside from Kepala Batas and Tasik Gelugor – has been attributed to her urban mentality disconnect with her constituents.

But some political observers prefer to attribute this the unstoppable emergence of ‘green tide’ which has swiftly swept across the northern states of Perlis, Kedah and mainland Penang (Editor’s note: There are two PAS strongholds in the Permatang Pauh constituency, namely Permatang Pasir and Penanti.)

This “green tide” phenomenon which emanated from the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang is expected to soon catch up with central states of Perak and Negri Sembilan.

Talks with BN to form Pahang govt going well, says PH
Posted by: superadmin - 11-23-2022, 05:56 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: amirudin-shari-wan-rosdy-collage-231122-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Discussions between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the formation of the Pahang state government have been going “in a positive direction”, says Pahang PH secretary Rizal Jamin.

In a statement, Rizal said Pahang PH chief Amirudin Shari held talks with BN Pahang chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail yesterday.

“Any further development (on the discussions) will be updated from time to time,” he said.

According to a Bernama report, eight elected representatives from PH who won the contest for state seats in the 15th general election (GE15) had signed statutory declarations (SD) supporting Wan Rosdy.
