Tok Mat asked me for ‘help’ in 2019, claims Hamzah

LARUT: Home minister Hamzah Zainudin has hit back at Mohamad Hasan after the Umno deputy president told Bersatu not to “pretend to be clean”.

The Bersatu secretary-general claimed that Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, had gone to his house in April 2019 to “ask for help”, though he refused to elaborate on this.

“If he says (Bersatu) is pretending to be clean, then I want to ask Tok Mat, did he not come to my home in April 2019 to ask for help?” Hamzah said, telling reporters to ask Mohamad for the details of the meeting.

Who will be PM after GE15?
Posted by: superadmin - 11-15-2022, 09:56 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: ismail-sabri-ahmad-zahid-hamidi-anwar-ib...1122-2.jpg]

From Lim Teck Ghee

In an earlier article, I had identified moral outrage as being the game changer in the general election.

When analysing the key factors that can influence the voter in the polling booth, one can approach it from different angles.

Among the possible factors are those that relate to the state of the economy and government. Hence the concern over rising prices and inflation, corruption and other abuses; perception of neglect; and feelings of deprivation or marginalisation all play a role in voter choice.

Opinions of what the competing parties stand for in their policies and are likely to accomplish are, of course, also important. This is why time and effort are given by parties to election manifestos and publicising the superiority of their policies over those of rival parties.

But perhaps the important consideration that influences voters – more than election manifestos and policy promises – apart from moral outrage, is the judgment on the personality and the associated pull power of the top leaders.

In GE15, voters will be evaluating the leadership of the four competing coalitions – Anwar Ibrahim and Rafizi Ramli from PKR/PH; Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Najib Razak and Ismail Sabri Yaakob from Umno; Muhyiddin Yassin and Abdul Hadi Awang from Bersatu/PAS; and Dr Mahathir Mohamad from Pejuang/GTA.

Anwar Ibrahim a tool of DAP, really? – Rocky Bru
Posted by: superadmin - 11-14-2022, 10:25 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 05112021_-_KUL_-_DAP_building_symbol_par...ien-08.jpg]

IN his quest to become prime minister for the second time in 2018, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had to bring himself to do two things many had thought impossible and unthinkable: the first was to embrace Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the former deputy prime minister he had incarcerated and accused of sodomy 20 years earlier; and the second to eat humble pie and kowtow to DAP, the party that he had for decades labelled as an anti-Malay spectre so that he and Umno would continue to get the god-fearing Malay-Muslims votes, especially in the kampung.

Dr Mahathir even went public to say that I now realise DAP is not chauvinist at all.

When he became PM, he made Lim Guan Eng the finance minister and turned his charms full on to become the love of the lives of the likes of Hannah Yeoh and Tony Pua.

There was no happy ending to that short-lived fairy tale, as we all know, and DAP is back in Pakatan Harapan, solidly behind Anwar Ibrahim once more.

4 weaknesses in China’s economy, from local government finances to poor regulation
Posted by: superadmin - 11-14-2022, 03:58 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

  • Vice-Premier Liu He and central bank governor Yi Gang are among the outgoing senior officials that have reflected on major risks facing the economy
  • Concerns range from the worrying state of local government finances to inadequate regulation of the financial system, including some small banks

Deteriorating local government finances, weak banks and inadequate regulation are among the main risks facing China’s economy, according to senior officials and regulators who have recently published candid assessments following the agenda-setting 20th party congress.

Vice-Premier Liu He, central bank governor Yi Gang, Minister of Finance Liu Kun and banking and insurance regulator chairman Guo Shuqing have all reflected on the dangers facing the state-dominated financial system, though they have not outlined specific improvements.

None of the officials have made it onto the list of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party – the party’s top decision-making body – unveiled at the 20th party congress, a sign that they may step down from their roles next year. Their views carry weight nonetheless and come amid growing concern about Beijing’s policy direction.

UNDI18, Google launch ‘Undi Negaraku’ to prep first-time voters, help fight misinformation
[Image: Voting-Malaysia-The-Edge-Markets.webp]

THE 15th general election (GE15) is the first election in which the youth will make up more than 50% of the electorate.

Over 5.8 million new voters, including 1.2 million aged between 18 and 20, will go to the polls for the first time.

With this in mind, Undi18, in collaboration with Google, has launched the Undi Negaraku website where voters can, in one-stop, educate themselves and learn more about what it means to be an informed voter participating in the democratic process of an election.

The one-stop site aims to prepare first-time and seasoned voters alike for the upcoming GE15. This includes topics such as tackling misinformation, a guide for first-time voters and information on the political coalitions in Malaysia.

BN might have won 2018 without Najib, says Saravanan
Posted by: superadmin - 11-14-2022, 11:19 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional might have remained in power in 2018 if Najib Razak had sat out the elections, according to MIC deputy president M Saravanan.

He said Najib’s image problem was a contributing factor to the shift in support among Indian voters away from BN.

“If only he’d declared that he wasn’t contesting, maybe, I think BN would have retained power. But Najib’s position, 1MDB,  the goods and services tax and many other issues were played up by the opposition, so the Indians shifted,” Saravanan told FMT.

He said it was made worse by Pakatan Harapan making many “empty promises” such as resolving the issue of red ICs among Malaysian Indians, which they failed to do during the coalition’s 22-month tenure in government.

“And now they’re saying that the previous 22 months was not sufficient, it’s not Dr Mahathir Mohamad or anyone else saying that,” Saravanan said.

Cops probing PAS man over ‘go to hell’ remark
Posted by: superadmin - 11-13-2022, 03:27 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Sik-PAS-Youth-chief-Shahiful-Nasir-3.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Police have initiated an investigation into a PAS leader’s remark that voters would “go to hell” if they voted for Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Harapan (PH) instead of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the general election.

The matter is being probed under Section 504 of the Penal Code which involves intentional insult to cause provocation and disrupt public peace, China Press reported.

Bukit Aman’s GE15 operations director Hazani Ghazali said no one has been arrested so far.

Sik PAS Youth chief Shahiful Nasir had apologised over his remarks made in a ceramah, admitting he made a mistake and that his statement had offended many.

Collapsed FTX hit by rogue transactions; analysts saw over US$600 mil outflows
Posted by: superadmin - 11-13-2022, 02:29 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: ftx_20221111222024_reuters.jpg?SWEU.U4nx...ceko5iGes3]

HONG KONG/SINGAPORE/LONDON (Nov 13): FTX was engulfed in more chaos on Saturday when the crypto exchange said it had detected unauthorised access and analysts said hundreds of millions of dollars of assets had been moved from the platform in "suspicious circumstances".

FTX filed for bankruptcy on Friday, one of the highest-profile crypto blow-ups, after traders rushed to withdraw US$6 billion (RM27.76 billion) from the platform in just 72 hours and rival exchange Binance abandoned a proposed rescue deal.

FTX chief executive officer John J Ray III said on Saturday that the company was working with law enforcement and regulators to mitigate the problem, and was making "every effort to secure all assets, wherever located".

"Among other things, we are in the process of removing trading and withdrawal functionality," he said.
