PETALING JAYA: In 2011, local singer Yuna moved to the United States to further her music career. More than a decade may have passed, but the Kedah-born performer still holds her Malaysian roots close to her heart.
Some people prefer not to talk much about their origins, mostly to fit in – Yuna, however, wears her heritage as a badge of pride.
“It’s everything to me. The essence in me is Malaysian. Even though I live in Los Angeles, whenever I walk into a recording room, it’s ‘a Malaysian walks in’. I just immediately talk about food, my country, my culture. I’m like a walking billboard for ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’ everywhere I go,” Yuna told FMT Lifestyle with a laugh.

No issue with political stability, now right time to opt for Malaysia, PM tells investors in Singapore
KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim assured foreign investors and industry leaders from the Asian region that there is currently no concern about the issue of political stability in Malaysia.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said now was the right time to invest in Malaysia, especially with the various economic indicators and long-term policies introduced by the government, including the MADANI Economy, National Energy Transition Roadmap and New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
In a post on his Facebook page, he said he explained this to over 400 people, most of whom were investors, during the Fireside Conversation session in conjunction with the Milken Institute 10th Annual Asia Summit in Singapore today.

KUALA LUMPUR: Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) has proposed that Malaysia emulate Singapore’s group representation constituency (GRC) system to enhance representation of minority ethnicities in Parliament.
He said it was time for Malaysia to consider a different electoral system, given that the existing one was determined in 1957 when the Federal Constitution came into force.
“If we implement the GRC system, it will ensure the minorities have adequate representation (in Parliament).
“For example, the Indian community makes up 6.6% of the population and they are entitled to 16 seats (out of the 222 parliamentary seats). But if you look at the number of seats they currently have, it’s not enough,” he said during the debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term review today.

PETALING JAYA: The “fragile” relationship between Umno and DAP cannot be accepted by most though both parties are part of the Unity Government.
Universiti Malaya political analyst Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi said for nearly 60 years there have been anti-Dap sentiments spewed by Umno leaders, especially during the time of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said Dr Mahathir sparingly used the race card to consolidate his power within Umno at the cost of interracial relationships.
"It has only been a short while since Umno and DAP have been part of the Unity Government led by Pakatan Harapan," he said.
"Unfortunately, many in Umno are unhappy with the unity pact and the fact that DAP is part of the government.
