How Huawei secretly builds microchip factories to bypass United States sanctions |

Huawei is like Apple – they are too big to fail. In truth, when the Trump administration – repetitively – announced new rounds of export restrictions specially designed to cut off overseas manufacturers from supplying semiconductors to the Chinese telecom-equipment manufacturer, the POTUS knew his efforts to isolate China’s tech giant would fail miserably.
It was absolutely funny that Donald Trump continued to punish Huawei Technologies Co. when the company was already on export blacklist imposed by the U.S. Commerce Department. Even more hilarious was when Joe Biden continued to flog the dead horse – announcing more plans to cut off Huawei from American suppliers. Exactly how long does it take to kill the Chinese company?
Despite two U.S. presidents and a truckload of “executive orders” signed to ban Huawei and other Chinese companies from getting access to the so-called advanced U.S. computer chips, it appears Huawei is still alive and kicking. In fact, Huawei’s smartphone business is “on the road to a comeback” – its share of the domestic smartphone market share grew by 76.1% in the second quarter this year.

Difficult to dislodge PAS from rural seats, says PKR man |

GEORGE TOWN – It will be difficult to dislodge PAS from its hold on rural Malaysia as the national unity bloc of Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) has not paid adequate attention to grassroots politics, said a former PKR senior leader.
This means PAS’ hold on rural Malaysian politics is here to stay for a foreseeable future unless PH-BN goes back to the basics, said Penang PKR’s Jason Ong.
Both PH and BN were born out of grassroots activism but over the past decades, in particular, PH, has become rigid and bureaucratic after tasting power since 2018, he said.
It is made even more complicated as PAS is the only party in the country to have resorted to fielding religious figures (ulama) as candidates, unlike other parties including PKR.
“Imagine if Christians have fielded pastors or Buddhists with their monks or Hindus with their high priests. The followers of such religions would be inclined to support their religious officials. The same applies to Muslims,” said Ong, a former Penang PKR vice-chairman.

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan is at risk of losing the Simpang Jeram state seat in the coming by-election due to a shift in Malay support within the constituency, an analyst said.
However, the shift towards Perikatan Nasional is more down to dissatisfaction with the current economic situation rather than genuine support for either Bersatu or PAS, said Mazlan Ali of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
“Simpang Jeram is quite critical. It is not impossible for PH to lose the seat given the current developments,” he told FMT, adding that the seat is close to PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s stronghold.
