KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) has rubbished Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin’s claims that his coalition had support from more than 112 elected parliamentarians to form the government.
PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this was because Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had nullified purported declarations or negotiations involving Umno MPs and PN.
Saifuddin said therefore Hamzah’s claims were invalid and cannot be used as evidence of support for any prime ministerial candidate.
He added that Zahid’s assertions meant that PN could lose several seats it claims to hold.

Abang Johari takes heat from inside GPS over PN pact |

KUALA LUMPUR – It appears that not all Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) members are happy with the alliance with Perikatan Nasional (PN) to form the federal government.
Highly placed sources told The Vibes that chief among the concerns was the inclusion of PAS and the anti-Christian narratives played up in the final hours of the election campaign.
“We were not consulted on this and it appears that Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg is making arbitrary decisions,” said one source.
Party members hope GPS chairman Abang Johari does not help push extreme Malaya parties into power in Putrajaya.
“We are having difficulty explaining to our members why we are tying up with PAS and Bersatu.
“Their politics are inconsistent with the values of the people in Sarawak,” said another.

KUALA LUMPUR: Discussions between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional revolve around forming a unity government, not a PH or DAP administration, says PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar was responding to BN treasurer-general Hishammuddin Hussein saying he will not support any cooperation with PH to form the government.
Hishammuddin, the Sembrong MP, had said BN should not work with Anwar or DAP, adding that he was ready to be sacked by Umno for his stand.

Truth on Muhyiddin’s statement of instruction from palace in doubt |

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s assertion that he has received a letter from the palace containing instructions to form the next government, could be false and a mere psywar to enable him to forge alliances in a power grab.
According to procedure, the letter should come from the speaker of the House, not the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, said a source.
The source, a senior political observer who asked to remain anonymous, added that an indication that Muhyiddin was engaging in a psywar is the contents of a media statement issued by the palace yesterday.
“The statement said the king was officially informed of the election result by the Election Commission (EC) chairman – which is the protocol.

Fear grows that Umno will play ‘third fiddle’ to PAS, Bersatu |

PETALING JAYA: Reports that only Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is in support of working with Pakatan Harapan to form the government are not true, according to a source in Barisan Nasional.
The source said forming the government with Perikatan Nasional would see Umno playing “third fiddle” to PAS and Bersatu when it came to Malay interests. There is fear within Umno that it will cease to exist if this happens, the source said.
The source also said many BN MPs did not sign statutory declarations backing Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister, contrary to media reports.
“After two years in Muhyiddin’s government, Umno had already become so split with his ‘scheme of things’. Another five years, and Umno will be ‘gone’.
“Some Umno and BN MPs are afraid that having PAS as the leading bloc may not be good for investor and economic confidence. That’s why there is still a dilemma,” the source said.

Coalition govt should be formed via party-to-party negotiations, not SDs – Bersih |

THE Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) takes exception to the call of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun for party leaders to submit statutory declarations (SDs) of their MPs who are willing to give support to a prime minister candidate to form the new government.
The speaker should know that the use of SDs for the formation of the government has been proven to be a failure, again and again, contributing to much instability over the years.
A parliamentary government is a government based on a common governance programme, not a bunch of individual MPs supporting a common prime minister candidate, whether or not in exchange for positions.
It is unreasonable that party leaders are rushed into deals before all their MPs have the chance to deliberate and be heard. No timeline should be set for this important process.
The most important goal in this process is to ensure that a sustainable and stable government can be formed and this can only be achieved through a carefully negotiated agreement between the parties and it should not be hastily rushed through using SDs.

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement tonight that no agreement has been made to form a government with Perikatan Nasional (PN) confirms rumours swirling that BN is not doing a deal with PN yet.
Sources told The Vibes that BN, which has 30 seats now, is not jumping at the immediate opportunity to collaborate with PN as remaining in the government while doing so will have a long-term impact on plans to rejuvenate the coalition.
BN lost 49 seats from the 79 it won in 2018.
“Many of these seats were lost to PN, so if they were to cooperate with PN, how are they going to retake the seats they lost?
“If they join forces with Pakatan Harapan (PH), they can govern and also prepare to retake the lost seats in the next general election of GE16,” said a highly-placed source earlier today.

Quote:However, Yusmaidi said given the coalition’s seat numbers, the palace should allow PH the room to form the next government or a minority one.
GEORGE TOWN – Two senior lawyers here are expressing concern about the manner in which political coalitions are being asked to negotiate and gather enough MPs to form a new government, following the lack of a clear winner in the 15th general election (GE15).
As Pakatan Harapan (PH) won the most seats, at 82 (including Muda), the coalition’s chairman should be invited by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for an audience, lawyers Mohd Yusmaidi Yusoff and S. Raveentharan said.
This is in accordance with the convention under the Westminster system of democratic parliamentary governance that Malaysia practices as a Commonwealth country, both of them told The Vibes.
The two, who are also former elected representatives, said the Westminster system would normally see the coalition or party with the highest number of seats given the first choice to form a new government.
This is in the event after an election when no party or coalition secures a simple majority.
