China Isn't Going to War Because It Doesn't Have To
Posted by: superadmin - 10-17-2023, 07:34 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Relax, boys and girls: China won't invade Taiwan, and the U.S. Navy won't engage Chinese forces any time in the foreseeable future. It's a scam, a goof, a Muppet show, whose point is to cover up the incompetence and corruption which led the Pentagon to spend trillions on obsolete weapons. We lost the South China Sea years ago. We're in roughly the same position as Britain was in Singapore in late 1941, except that unlike the feckless British, we know it. We just can't admit it.

The U.S. Department of Defense has known since no later than 2012—when I consulted for the late Andrew Marshall at the Office of Net Assessment—that Chinese surface-to-surface (STS) missiles can destroy U.S. aircraft carriers, or any other military asset that isn't submerged. Not until recently did the U.S. military concede this in official assessments.

In contrast to the Reagan Administration, which made missile defense a priority, we're doing little to counter China's formidable capabilities. We can't test defenses against hypersonic missiles, because we can't even launch a hypersonic missile. Lockheed junked its flagship hypersonics program last March.

China is under no time pressure to take military action. From a military standpoint, a seaborne landing like the Normandy invasion of December 1944 would be senseless. Taiwan has storage capacity for 11 days of natural gas consumption. A Chinese blockade would force Taiwan's surrender in short order.

US pharmacy chain Rite Aid files for bankruptcy amid opioid suits

NEW YORK: US pharmacy chain Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy Sunday, the company said, after suffering declining sales and legal threats over its alleged involvement in the opioid crisis.

Rite Aid has one of the largest pharmacy networks in the United States, with 2,100 outlets selling medicines and health products as well as food and hygiene items.

The Philadelphia-based group said it had already reached agreements with several major creditors to restructure its debt, according to a press release.

It also said it had received commitments for US$3.45 billion in new financing, which should enable it to continue operating.

Stop hyping up talk of PAS joining govt, says Tiong
Posted by: superadmin - 10-16-2023, 07:07 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: ef6d1688-tiong-king-sing-bernama-151023-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: A Cabinet member has urged the public and political parties to stop playing up speculation that the government is inviting PAS to join the federal administration.

Tiong King Sing said an offer extended to PAS by Anwar Ibrahim was made before Anwar formed his unity government last November, after the King had expressed his wish for unity among all parties given the inconclusive results of the general election when no party obtained a parliamentary majority.

Tiong, who is tourism, arts and culture minister, said he brought up the matter at the Cabinet meeting on Friday, after being asked several times about the prospect of PAS joining the government.

He said Anwar then told him that Time Magazine had asked him in an interview a few months ago about the possibility of inviting PAS into the unity government, to which he replied that he had been open to the idea from the beginning.

China’s September foreign trade hits new monthly high of 2023

China’s September foreign trade hits new monthly high of 2023 as recovery gathers steam
[Image: 407f6673-1063-4f5b-817b-7cb1a03e977f.jpeg]

China released a series of positive economic indicators on Friday, including higher-than-anticipated exports and new monthly high of foreign trade, improving social financing data, and a rebounding consumer situation, signaling that the world's second-largest economy is withstanding external pressure and on a path to sustained recovery bolstered by a range of supportive policy measures over recent months, observer said.

The anticipated growth is expected to provide a significant boost to the global economy, which has been facing downward pressure and restrictive trade policies from some Western economies. Observers pointed out that a series of crucial events, including the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the Canton Fair, the China International Import Expo, and the inaugural China International Supply Chain Expo will present opportunities for the world to partake in this growth.

While mounting challenges and geopolitical complexities are highly likely to persist in the fourth quarter and might continue to weigh on the recovery, Chinese experts believe that policy measures coupled with improving endogenous growth drivers will ensure that China will reach its annual GDP growth target of about 5 percent in 2023.

Xiconomics in Practice: Xi-endorsed Juncao technology improves livelihoods across globe, embodies China’s commitment for greater good of humanity

As China embarked on the quest to become a great modern socialist country amid global changes unseen in a century, Xi's economic thought has been and will continue to be the guiding principle for development in China for years to come, and have great significance for the world. What is Xi's economic thought? What does it mean for China and the world? To answer these questions, the Global Times has launched this special coverage on Xi's major economic speeches and policies, and how they are put into practice to boost development in China and around the world.

In China's decades-long efforts targeting poverty reduction, the largest such undertaking in modern history, numerous figures and stories have emerged. Among them, the seemingly unassuming Juncao, a particular breed of grass, has played a pivotal role, adding a vibrant and indispensable chapter to the pursuit.

While absolute poverty has been eradicated in China, the grass species which was first introduced to the world by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the world in 2000, is now flourishing, vigorously growing in even more developing nations and beyond, and dubbed as a "magic grass" in helping locals to live better lives.
