PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin sees signs of a “youth wave” in favour of the opposition when state elections are held soon.
He said the massive attendance of young people at yesterday’s launch of PN Youth’s election machinery was a sign of the “youth wave” that would be manifested at the coming elections.
Muhyiddin said he was impressed by the positive reception shown by a massive motorcycle convoy of thousands.

“We need explanations from Tun M, Daim and Nor Mohamed on UMNO assets,” ex UMNO sec-gen urges
UMNO veteran secretary-general Datuk Mustapha Yaakub has urged the former UMNO leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and two former finance ministers Tun Daim Zainuddin and Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop to explain the disappearance of RM100 bil in UMNO assets.
“The people, especially UMNO members, have the right to know the true story regarding the Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK) revelation earlier this month that UMNO lost at least RM100 bil in assets,” he said.
RPK wrote on his portal Malaysia Today that Dr Mahathir, Daim and Nor are now fighting over the issue of the loss of UMNO assets.
According to the UMNO veteran, there is no doubt that RPK’s disclosure is something serious and it needs an explanation from these three former UMNO leaders because this issue happened when Dr Mahathir was prime minister.

Zahid paying Najib courtesy call at Kajang Prison is a total sham, disgrace to M’sia’s democracy

Letter to editor
LAST year, Prisons Department commissioner-general Datuk Nordin Muhamad said Datuk Seri Najib Razak will not receive any special treatment in jail and will be treated like any other prisoner.
This was repeated by Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who said allegations that Najib was afforded special privileges were baseless and unfounded which he described as “total nonsense.”
However, during the recent UMNO general assembly, it was widely reported that party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi spent nearly two hours with Najib along with several members of the UMNO supreme council.
I may not be a policeman or part of any legal or enforcement agency but I am sure no normal prisoner would ever be accorded such a privilege.
In fact, it is often so disheartening to read about a single mother or father who has to spend time behind bars simply for stealing a loaf of bread or tin of Milo to feed his or her hungry children.

KUALA LUMPUR: A PAS MP wants changes to be made to the dress code for nurses, saying the uniform worn by nurses is too tight and not shariah-compliant.
In debating the much-awaited health white paper on public health sector reforms, Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan) complained that nurses’ uniforms “show their body shape”.
“I would like to ask whether we are going to keep following the Western mould on the dress code for nurses?
“Can’t it be changed so that some relaxation on the dress code can be given?” he asked in the Dewan Rakyat.

PETALING JAYA: A council representing tourist guides and an association of hotels are at odds over a new law aimed at regulating accommodation for travellers in Perak.
The Malaysian Tourist Guides’ Council president Jimmy Leong said the state enactment, intended to give hotels and other forms of lodgings equal treatment, would level the playing field for operators. However, he was skeptical as to whether the regulations could be implemented effectively, saying it is “easier said than done”.
Leong said the law which seeks to make licences mandatory for hotels and homestays was commendable, but asked how the authorities would enforce it against those who refuse to comply.
